Started here with a few rumbles of thunder and steady light rain. The heavy stuff is behind, but, I can't tell how far.

A glancing blow from a thundery shower brief intense rainfall of nearly 160mm per hour so those that get a direct hit expect flooding.
We must have matched the days of thunder for the last five years now. I think we've had five days now perhaps six. Sheffield shield in need of repair long may that be the case
I take it thats the one that looks like its heading straight for Doncaster?

That run for about 13-1500 tomorrow looks fun

The cell thats popped up due south of me, over Retford looks impressive. Can see the top of that one towering massively. Theres also a second one bubbling up to the west of it.

Got rolling thunder constantly at the moment, and the rain has just started...

Had a fantastic crack of lightning and thunder almost simultaneously about 20 minutes ago just outside Doncaster.

Absolutely throwing it down with T&L in DN7 (North East Doncaster) at the moment. Came from nowhere.
-
Absolutely slinging it down in this part of South Yorkshire (Hatfield), right now.. Beginning to wish I'd stayed in the US..

Can still hear the rumbles from strikes over Horsham way. Looks like there is lots of murk and heavy showers about - can't work out how the day is gonna pan out
That appears to be under quite a nice looking cell thats built since it came ashore.

Surely Watnall and Herstmonceux report every day?
Watnall and Herstmonceux not showing...

@ Robt: Yes, indeed, the 00z soundings are going to to prove very valuable for nowcast should they take place. Is Cambourne the only place which sent up a weather balloon in the whole of the UK today?
Thats the only one showing on the University of Wyoming site..
-
Thanks Robt, that Cambourne diagram shows a tightly capped situation with 2 inversions and a lot of dry intrusions coming in turn with moist air in the upper levels, that helps explain the wild looking skies, interesting though: no CAPE at all..
Regards
Ralph
It'll be interesting to see what the later soundings show up...
-
Looking at all the pics of the skies, the remind me of the "loaded gun Sky", tightly capped environment. Have been trying to get hold of some balloon soundings, Herstmonceux for example, but no luck. Can somebody in the forum who has better access post one if possible? Would be a valuable nowcasting tool at the moment..

Ralph

The cell the team are on at the moment looks really nice..
-
Just finished work and had a look at the radar. I'm interested in the cell to the east of Dickens and by the looks of it so are the team.
Looks to be quite well defined already.

After beaver yesterday, I think that I will go for Turkey TX today! Hopefully the shear will be strong enough in this area.
I'm thinking slightly further South west, nearer Floydada.

That tornado above touched down around 11pm - but the tornado sirens had sounded almost 1 and a half hours earlier in Canadian. Do people stay in their shelters all that time - or did the sirens go off repeatedly?
They would still be there chewing them, Ian.
I'd heard them going in Canadian twice, once at about 2130, and once about an hour later..

Just seen the team on the MIDSCAR stream as they've gone past.

Went out last night when the second storm came through (about 2030), that was monumental. Went from no rain, to full on monsoon in less than 400 yards, and, it was really quite windy under it as well.
Have some dashcam stuff, as well as some that was put on one of the local Facebook groups in Donny. Was definitely a talking point seeing storms go either side of me.
