It feels like the night before a holiday or even Christmas eve, I'm that excited. I just watched the BBC weather video on their site - so much white and its all over me!!! Does that mean home schooling will be off as surely its a snow day on Monday
Nope!!! . We are all WFH and home schooling. But we can go out at lunch and have some fun!

Yep amber warning looks good today based on the 12z.
For those in normal streamer spots it's probably going to end up with now casting it as the models very much struggle.
Outside of those areas, it does look bleak especially further west you go sadly.
Breakdown has morphed into a slow and steady erosion of the block rather than a bang frontal breakdown.
ECM draws in a very cold SE airflow at the surface by Thursday, such a flow would be give very low temps around the SE given extensive snow cover over Europe.
Hi Kold - Where do you expect the western extent of the snow Sunday?

Its going to be Interesting to see where this spell sits in my top Easterly Periods and see if it can get into the top 5
1. 1987
2. 2010
3. 1991
4. 1979
5. 2018
What makes 2010 better than 1991? Is it the length of the cold spell or snow depths. In 1991 I was 13 then and to this day I will never forget it and the amount of snow we had. But at that age I didn’t really care about the temps as long as it snowed. Apart from the snow in 2010, I remember it being so cold the district line train at Barking actually froze to the track.

Looks like sweet Fa for areas to the West of London from the BBC forecast just now!
I actually have a lot more faith in some of the poster in here, than I do in the BBC!

Also made the mistake of popping into the mod thread earlier. Loads of bickering about a potential breakdown 6/7 days away and virtually no discussion about the next 5 days. Think I'll stay out of there for a while.
Yep I noticed that too. To many IMBY posts starting to crop up regarding Sunday's snow. I actually thought it was a bust for the weekend reading some of the post, then I realised they were talking about next Thursday!!
Im sticking in here from now on.- 3

Very confusing in the mad thread! Will it, won’t it. I’ve never let myself get over excited yet, after all the let downs. I’m really hoping the ECM comes up trumps!
question though. Did the UKMO have the mild sector too? I’m struggling to understand what model people are talking about in the mad thread! -

Just rain here, like it’s been all day, apart from a little flurry earlier on this morning

Few flakes blowing in the wind here in Thurrock

Cold rain has just started here. Temp 1.8c
Yep. Cold rain here too. But better than warm rain, when we are praying for some snow at the weekend

Certainly nice to see the sun still shining at gone 4pm. 7c just now.
Yes definitely noticing the lighter evenings on my after work run now.
After today’s sun show, I cannot wait for the lighter evenings and the warmth of the sun.
BUT.... if we get snow the above will go out of the window, and it can stay cold, dark and snowy until the end of Feb!!!

Am I the only one that thinks the ECM snow charts are as useful as a choccie teapot? Not sure I’ve ever seen it predict anything correctly. It would genuinely get a nowcast wrong
Yep. But I will be glad for it to be right! I will believe it when I see the snow falling outside my window!
