Hottest day of the year so far here. Forecast for midweek is cooler here as easterly will kick in, but then turning unpleasant again on Friday with heat and humidity. Had hoped we had seen the last of the hot weather this year. Hopefully that's it, but not enjoying the new normal climate.

A grey and drizzly day at the coast today. Late morning bike ride produced a force 3 E wind, with persistent drizzle for the last half hour. Very misty. Looks like I could be hiding in the heat haters thread Sunday and Monday.

A nice day today, 18c winds E force 3. Very little cloud, but the onshore breeze has raised a line of instability where it hits the cliffs, which are around 400ft at this point.

Sunday temperatures here have downgraded by 1c, hopefully that trend will continue, now at Mike57 happiness zone +3

Oh no, I spoke too soon, Sunday is currently forecast 24c feels like 27c here, but then cooling down here as winds back easterly. Inland I suspect may not be so lucky.

More cloud and less rain than yesterday. 16c and light N wind at lunchtime , force 2-3. The storms over the last two days have been all around us but nothing overhead. Back to lunchtime rides now the humidity has dropped.

Another fresh and pleasant day on the Yorkshire Coast, after last week's humidity. With the end of August in sight we should have done with heat. It can get warm in September but usually only a day or two, and quite unusual in our location as the sea moderates our temperatures. So hopefully I will see you all in other threads, but for everyone's sake I hope we don't meet in this one again. We are off to France for our holiday at the end of September, staying on the edge of Paris. Obviously the potential for heat is greater, that's why we delay our holiday until the end of September. So far the years that we have been at that time we haven't had a hot enough day to cause us to change plans. Hoping for a proper Winter this year, but I am prepared to be disappointed.

Been some thunderstorms again in East Yorkshire today, with a funnel cloud spotted, with a good picture in the Yorkshire and E England discussion.

We had power dip as well and a couple of distant rumbles, storm tracked south of Brid and dissipated at sea by the look of the radar. Saw some very distant lightning yesterday evening around 11pm, to the east, out to sea, no thunder, too far away.

Last of the wood cut and stacked today. Humidity made it a miserable task. Sawdust and dirt sticks to you. When I had finished was sent straight in the shower by SWMBO. Finally feels a little fresher here, Hoping for an early start to Autumn. Looking at data East Kent had 21c with a dew point of 21c earlier this evening, that is seriously unpleasant humidity.

Well the humidity is hanging on at the east coast this morning, feels like someone has left a kettle on. Temperatures are a reasonable 17c but with a dew point of 16c it feels much hotter, there is no breeze and hazy sun. Hoping it will freshen up later.

Well it looks like we will finally get rid of the warm humid air tomorrow. 'Feels like' temperature forecast is now 22c rather than 25c so wood cutting will be less unpleasant. I have to agree with other posts, it been more noticeable in the evening and at night during the last couple of weeks. Even having windows open hasn't helped. I am glad I have made bug meshes for each bedroom window, as this means we can open the windows without getting eaten alive. Looking at these posts I am not alone, for everyone's sake let's hope this thread will die soon. Last Friday I had the worst migraine I have had for 20 years and the humid bad sleeping conditions were at least partly to blame (also work stresses but that's another story). SWMBO has now decreed that daily bike ride must be taken early before the heat/humidity gets going until it cools down, so I have been doing my 10 mile daily ride at around 6am.

Well Thursday is another firewood cutting and chopping day, last one of the summer as we have nearly enough fuel cut and stored now. According to the forecast a bit cooler than the last few days, but still with a 'feels like' 25c due to humidity for our location in the afternoon. Nephew is coming to give me a hand, so postponement would need more heat than is currently forecast, but I expect to be sweating heavily. Main thing is to keep hydrated. Just cant wait for the weather where we start using the fruits of my labours, to hear the shout "Michael (Im always Michael when I am required to do something or in trouble) the wood box in the living room is empty, you need to refill it"

It's the humidity rather than the actual temperature that has been the problem this month. We have also had a few nights with almost flat calm, so even with the windows open you don't get any air movement. For our part of the world it looks like a change from Thursday into Friday. The strong SW flow is the problem currently, and it's the one direction here which always seems to bring heat. Assuming the warming that we are experiencing is here to stay, as seems inevitable then we will have to adapt, and for those who are able air con will probably move from a gimmick to a near necessity. The other advantage of A/C is that it reduces humidity.

And you thought these were to generate electricity, wrong, they are part of a secret conspiracy by the heat haters living on the Yorkshire Coast to push the hot humid air that blows up from the south west back where it came from. On a serious note, it looks like our winds will be coming from an easterly quarter at the moment, which is keeping temperatures pegged back to under 20c. It does mean we will probably miss out on storms, and yesterday and today are overcast. It's a typical east coast all over featureless grey this morning, but if that's the price of avoiding heat I will take it.

Our bedroom and kitchen face NW so this makes a big difference to our personal comfort. In high summer the sun is still heating the rooms after a too hot day at 9pm, by mid August the sun has gone and you open windows to cool down before bedtime.

I was out on my bike again at 6am this morning as my usual lunchtime ride was not possible due to work. There was quite a bit of low lying mist and it was dead calm. Quite cool until the sun got to work. Been a pleasant day. We are visiting relatives in Peterborough for the day Saturday and I think we will notice the difference in temperature when we get off the train... Could be a visit to the heat haters thread on the train coming home

Today is quite a nice day, not too hot, sunny after yesterdays rain, and with moderate northerly breeze. Bike ride was early today, I was out shortly after 6, as I have various things on work wise which rule out my usual lunchtime ride. Early sun on the recently harvested fields this morning and a clear sky, with the road still wet from yesterdays rain.

Our little corner of the East Riding doesn't do too badly, although I moan about the heat we are better off than most in England. Highest temperature since we moved here 17 years ago is 29c, which has been hit twice, last time last year. We have sea on almost 3 sides which moderates temps, both hot and cold. Worst direction for heat is a strong SW flow, which then overcomes any sea breeze, with a slight Fohn effect over the Wolds as well. In winter north or north east gales can be wild, and thundersnow happens a lot of winters, again a quirk of local geography as the 400ft cliffs trigger any instability. Even compared to Hull which is only 35 miles away we are cooler on the whole. Sis-in-law lives in Hull and is envious.

I think this is going to a much more significant thing than just a few heat haters moving north in the UK. Could parts of southern Europe become uninhabitable, drought and increasing temperatures are going to put pressure on resources, and there comes a point where daytime temperatures are going to severely limit outdoor activities during the summer.

I am the same as others on here, @Beanz, @SollyOlly, @Pewkzii, anything over 20c I find too warm, and over 25c I start feeling sorry for myself. Given a choice between a wet cool summer or a hot sunny one, wet cool everytime. I am a big lad, and I always tell people I have an insulated jacket on that I can't take off. I cycle every day for exercise, and will go out early if the forecast is 22 or 23+. My wife is the same, so our 'summer' holidays tend to be taken right at the end of September or even a bit later, and we avoid anywhere that will be warm or hit. I was brought up in in London in the 60s, and there were years where even in London we didn't get to 30c. My favourite weather is cleary frosty winter days. But we don't get many of them now.

@SollyOlly Attic work done, not as bad as I thought but still warm. Making sure I stay hydrated. It is a bit fresher here today, but warmer than forecast. My screen name is a giveaway for my age born in '57.

Well so far looking hot again today in spite of earlier forecast. I have a job to do in attic today which was postponed from yesterday because of the heat. Going to have to suck it up but going to be quite unpleasant I think. Only hope is a sea breeze later on, but with a strong SW flow seems less likely. As someone growing up in the 1960s who has had an interest in meteorology since my early teens I have seen the steady rise in peak summer temperatures which has been significantly more than the rise in average temperatures. 1976 was the year everybody talked about, but top temp was 35.9 I think, translate that setup into the current period and my guess is we could be looking at 41 or 42. We are fortunate in living in one of the cooler parts of England, with 29c being top temp even last year, but when your comfort zone ends at 20c we still get what I feel as too hot days.

First day hiding here for a while, 25.5c on the Yorkshire Coast this afternoon, managed to do a couple of jobs sweating heavily. Now in the coolest part of the house feeling sorry for myself. Felt like someone had opened the doors to Hell at about 2pm. The only good thing, forecast to cool down overnight and be cooler tomorrow.
