Already quite unpleasant up here, driving rain and gusting in excess of 50kts from the SE. Latest Gale Warning for sea area Fair Isle - Hurricane Force 12

Very up and down at the moment. Temps getting up to 3C between showers but dropping rapidly to around 0C in showers. Lerwick and surrounding areas quite bad, south mainland not so bad. Aparrently there was some thundersnow during the night and some of the power cables have been zapped by lighting so about 3000 folk in the north of Shetland without power at the moment. Total of 7 schools shut at the moment.

Heard them talking about it on the BBC radio weather this morning Bob, how deep is it?
About 6-7cms, main problem is the wind, Gale Force gusting to 55kts causing drifting.

Pretty atrocious conditions here at the moment, heavy wet snow being driven on a Force 7 NW wind which is gusting to 55kts.

Indeed Coast. Certainly expecting some more here later this afternoon and tonight looks quite interesting with the NW winds expected to reach gale force in the early hours.

Morning. Winter wonderland up here with approx 6-7cms of snow and a frost at the moment.

Snow had eased off for a while but back on again. Now 6cms level snow. Freezing as well, currently -1.5C.

Currently 5cms (2 inches) of lying snow here in Shetland

Currently heavy snow in Shetland. Approx 2cms fallen in the last hr. Very thick with visibility in the tens of yards.
Update: as at 1925 there is 5cms of lying snow here in Shetland.

Blizzard conditions here in Shetland at the moment, about 2 cms come down in the last hour. Just drove back from Lerwick had to take it very easy, visibility right down and heavy, driving snow with huge flakes!

Cloudy with occasional brighter spells and very cold. Very light dusting of snow this morning but nothing since.

Already getting quite unpleasant up here, driving rain and gusting in excess of 50kts. Expecting Violent Storm 11 in the next few hours and latest gale warning issued by the Meto says Hurricane Force 12 expected after about 3pm.
