Woohoo snow shower here!
-
Snow on the A9 at Daviot
-
Windy old night up here! Top gust was recrded at the Met Station in Lerwick at 75mph. I had 60mph which is not bad considering I'm at a lower elevation and somewhat sheltered from the SW! Wintry mix of rain/hail/graupel this morning and feeling very cold - wind chill currently -1C.
-
Morning all. Wild and windy overnight and this morning. Top gust at my location was 60mph just after midnight. Up at the Met Office station in Lerwick they recorded 75mph but they are on top of a hill and much more exposed than me.
Had a wintry mix this morning of rain/hail/graupel. Temp is 4.4C DP is 1.8C

Morning! Wild and windy up here. Top gust was recorded at the Lerwick Met Observatory at 75mph. I recorded 60mph but then I'm somewhat sheltered from the SW. A wintry mix of showers this morning, currently a heavy hail shower. Had a look outside this morning and there was some hail/graupel lying around. Just 5C at the moment, DP = 2.8C so certainly cold enough for wintry showers.

Pressure steadied, rain stopped, wind eased off a touch, I'd say we're in the warm sector. Expect things to start kicking off in a couple of hours.

This is the best satellite work I have found online so far.

Never seen anything quite like that before - the speed of development is incredible.
Nice! Couldn't find a better depiction of a classic Atlantic Low in all its glory

A bit breezy up here now, gusting to around 50kts (55mph). Latest conditions:
Incidentally the pic above is dynamic - it will update!

Starting to blow a bit up here now, gusting to 44kts (48mph), 10 min Avg is 38 kts (42mph) I expect the worst during the early hours. Just been outside and made sure nothing can blow around lol.
Correction to the above, we've just hit 50kts (55mph)

Wind cranking up here, gusting to 44kts = 48mph. Wind shifting SW'ly.

Looking forward to tonight Richard, should be a good old blow! Possible Violent Storm 11
-
Should be quite interesting here later on, possibly up to Violent Storm 11 overnight. Interestingly, quite low dew point here already at just 2.6C. Expecting wintry showers on the back of this storm tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Shame the questions didn't allow more than one response! Up here anything with a Northern element si good for snow N/NE/NW and we've also had snow from the west. E or SE is no good at all. Even a short lived cold spell like 2-3 days is enough to give us some decent snowfall though. Although I've gone for a Polar low setup as being best, showers will do it as well as we can get some pretty beefy showers driven on strong winds.
Being an island group surrounded by water we tend not to get hard frosts like on the mainland but we can get dumped on as troughs etc pass over us. Also being and isolated island group we can get weather thats "not as forecast" i.e. different to that being progged for the mainland.
-
All very quiet at the moment but that will change overnight as were expecting up to Severe Gale 9 later.
-
It would - if you live in Shetland. Standard westerly airflow for the majority.
I do! Expecting some wintry showers up this way on Friday
-
Grey and dull, but dry! I have stuck my neck out for the past few days and been forecasting wintry showers up here for Friday. I'm fairly confident that will be the case
-
Dull and dreich with some mist/fog around
-
Misty and dreich early this morning but cleared up nicely!
-
Dreich and wet this morning, some improvement this afternoon.
-
A dull and dreich day here overcast with some very light drizzle, quite breezy, gusting up to a 7 at one point before falling right away.

The webicorder seems to have packed in. There was a chunk of missing data and now it seems to be flatlining
