    Good to see Shetland has some wintryness! :)

    How well do you do up there in terms of snow in winter?

    I think to myself that because you are on an island you will suffer from the warming effect of the sea, but then on the other hand I think you are so far north, and the sea will be very cold up there in winter, so it wont modify your temperatures at all. Which is correct? :p

    Actually a bit of both! We tend not to get serious frosts up here because of the proximity of the sea but being so far north, even when conditions are quite marginal, we can get wintry precip. The main player is really the wind. Often when bad snow is forecast it can blow straight past us! That said we can also get serious dumpings - i.e. in Dec 95 we had level snow several feet deep even in the built up areas like Lerwick and in some outlying areas there were drifts 30 feet deep!

    Windy day here and the possibility of the odd wintry shower about. Although the temp is around 7-7.5C, the dewpoint has plumetted in the last couple of hours and is now well below freezing!

    Weather Software - Help!

    Hi IF.

    For just a little bit more money you could get a LaCrosse WS2350. I used to have the older version (WS2300) and it was excellent, very little trouble with it at all, only prob was the sensors weren't quite up to the severe weather we get up here. It works well with Weather Display which is an excellent piece of software.

    If you could afford a bit more (i.e. about £350) the UK Weather Shop is doing a good deal on the Oregon Scientific WMR200X where you get two extra sensors free (a temp/humid sensor and a solar sensor). Thats what I have now and again its a good station. Also, having Weather Display software I was able to go from one station to another no problem, just involved changing the station type in the WD setup.
