Temperature has rocketed to 29oC and ~55%RH in the last hour or so. Sky has been hazy all day but the sun is shining, again! ........ melting!!

At least your office has AC - I am in a large building designed with the lovely glass ceilings so essentially 3000 staff, with computers, inside a giant greenhouse. Grim. Our mercury thermometer says it is 35 degrees in here.
But I feel more sorry for those working outside in the sun!!
It also makes me sick I won't be seeing any storms to wave the heat goodbye.
Yuk!! Sounds a really nice place to be ...... not!
I gave up on heat many years ago. This type of weather always gave rise to field fires and I have to say, I dreaded field fires more than anything else! Due to appliances being burnt on previous occasions, we were not allowed to drive onto unburnt areas. So middle of the day, in this type of weather, full PPE including helmets and no hose-reels ...... our firefighting equipment was literally poles with old hose attached and the beating began! Way too hot!!!!
Though doing that job did show how destructive lightning can be. We attended quite a few lightning strikes but the one that I recall the most was a shout to a tree on fire in the middle of nowhere. When we booked in attendance, there was less than half a tree left, split about 5ft from the ground and on fire!!
Still praying for a storm tho :-)

Come on guys, it's been a good day of discussion on here. Are we really going for the toy throwing already? Tomorrow is a very conditional threat and it hasn't even occurred yet.
Rest assured tho Nick ...... we'll get bu**er all behind the Chilterns Barrier! :-(

No real improvement until at least the end of the week sadly. Wouldn't mind it if there was a chance of storms, but down here? Fat chance.
I feel your pain Nick! The amount of times I've seen imports heading straight for this area and then either divert or split around us is not funny. Same with the snow .......... Chilterns Storm and Snow shield :-(
-
Meh!!! Still waiting and it makes it painful when we have to endure the extremes of heat and humidity whilst the storms decide to fire anywhere but here!

Hard to believe it's December, felt warm
Tell me about it, polo shirt on today in December! Bulbs are well and truly pushing there way up in the borders now :-/

This must all be true ....... the local rag has us down for a "Big Freeze" :-D

Yep, when viewed out of a side window it was very pale but with the misuses shades on and looking daft, I could see it very clearly

A colleague's station in Chesham, Bucks got down to 0.2c the other night. It's a pretty notable frost hollow.
Was that where the coldest UK temp was recorded on one particular night in 2010? I'm guessing along The Vale area. I was living in Great Missenden at the time and internal pipes to the washing machine froze!

Ooooo, I think we may have had 0.005mm of rain overnight :-?

Not too much in London really. West London and far north London got a fair bit but most of Greater London missed the worst of it. Seems that Herts into Beds and Cambs and now into Norfolk has seen an absolute pummelling. So jealous!
Is that a supercell just north of Cambridge now, folks?
Yep, missed again in Bucks ....... I don't think anything will beat last July!

Welwyn Garden seems like a sweet spot!

Quite a few IC and some CG to my E now (towards W London)
-
Flickering every 20 seconds to my south-east.
Where in Bucks are you? Im very nr Marlow but not seeing much around here but then my living room looks SSW
-
I think I might actually be in the best spot for tonight. There is even a pub behind me lets you take your beers down into the park on the hill. Here's a pic of my view to the SW...
And there's a tree providing shelter from the rain that's suddeNLY STARTED FROM NOWHERE! :-(
Oh i like the look of that, good spot for photography. Where is this?

Wow, just a tad quieter in here this evening

From what i could see, i think we were rather sandwiched between the storms to my ENE over the W London areas and the edge of the Bournemouth storm travelling NNE. There was very little rain and not much in the way of thunder. There was a LOT of IC activity and some good looking CG. For this area, last night did not live up to last July (17th) which did get stuck overhead with amazing thunder and CG activity. Sounds like some areas got somewhat more action but I would be interested in the overall ratio of IC vs CG. Is that info available somewhere?
This area is a little odd. Storms and snow events quite often "split" W & E but when overhead can rattle around for a while. Probably something to do with the Chiltern Hills topography.
Anyway, this morning feels a lot more humid and warm than I was expecting ...... rain please :-)

Shows over. Can't complain, great light show to the N and W and pretty close but no cigar. Very little thunder or rain. Nice show tho

Its getting way to much now!! Seems o be the way around here tho, a breeding ground for the immense heating and unfortunately not a lot of action as a reward :-/
