  1. Bish and Windysnow Thanks for your responses. ChrisB 1357 - Thats a great site gives you up to date speeds for all sections of all the motorways. Having looked at that I am going and will check that site when I get to Nottingham. For everybody on the move check that site out. Midlands Ice Age
  2. Guys, What do you think? I have to pick up my sister in Alfreton and take her to see my brother in law who is eriously ill in Sheffield hospital. I have been told that the M1 will be closed by the M18 junction. Doea anyone have the times of this closure If it is closed what is the best route from Alfreton to Sheffield considering the snow conditions? PS I am not afraid of the conditions and have the day to do it!! What are the main roads like in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire? Midlands Ice Age .
  3. Wow, I had Oswestry in the depth competition. (PS My first choice was Shrewsbury, but I knew the famous snow shield would hold) Midlands Ice Age
  4. First few flakes just reached here from the south. And yes its stated as snow. Midlands Ice Age
  5. Yep Bish, Local golf course reports 7cms and is closed!!! As you say main roads are Ok, but side roads are affected by wet slushiness. Looks let its finished now for the day, but this evening could look interesting. Midlands Ice Age
  6. Snowing very heavily now in Solihull. Roads are almost covered. Grass, Cars, Roofs are all white. Temperature now down to 0.5C and continuing to fall. This is the start my friends. This is a 70's situation if ever I saw one. Midlands Ice Age
  7. Hi Beccaboo, You'll have to be patient. Its coming up from the WSW so it will get to you last of the midlands. After seeing snow being recorded even dowh in Ambrosdan (Oxford) now you will be OK.... MIA
  8. Mainly snow (bit of sleet mixed in started here in Solihull 10 mins ago. Still too warm to settle, but the temp is now falling away steadily. This is very impressive as the 18:00 news said oit would start as rain and then turn to snow at midnight. Also looking at the Meteo radar (see above for links) the sleet line is staying 50 miles south of here and not moving North with the precipitation band.
  9. Lorenzo, Thanks for that. It is a much better chart viewer. HOWEVER the chart I was looking at was published by Harsh Climate as a direct copy into this thread, so perhaps something else is going on! (see above) MIA
  10. John H, Harsh Climate Perhaps my screen hasn't updated correctly (even tho I,ve been ont of IE and then nack in again), but my Fax chart clearly shows the time as T +24 for 06:00 UTC on Friday.. I still make that the original was produced at 06:00 today!!. Am I doing something wrong here? MIA
  11. I'll try for Oswestry Thought of Shrewsbury (but realised the snow shield might come into play!!) MIA
  12. Hi guys, Has anyone else noticed that its been raining for 13hours solidly now ? (in Solihull it has at anyhow). The intensity has also picked up in the last hour. When is it due to stop as the water is already starting to lie on the fields MIA
  13. Arnie, Still getting the same message on the new address link. Cheers MIA
  14. Not convinced by the above either Chiro . Hadley (Met Office) would not agree to using the Manley figures as it is outside of their control. Philip Eden (who is running the Manley extension figures) specifically decided to continue the work of Manley, and has even backtracked to complete missing years. On his website you can see how the Metoffice variant of the CET has moved away from the figures that Manley would have produced (guess which direction!). The figures are genuine that the Metoffice (Hadley) produces, but it has now been admitted they have moved away from the original stations and included coastal as well as more urban stations in their figures. The way I see it Philip Eden and his extension of the Manley dataset has meant that we still have a realistic assessment of the historical CET series produced by the Met Office .MIA .
  15. 6.4 for me. Fairly normal month after my -1.1c of Feb. Mild start followed by cooler period. MIA
  16. Hi MK, Im from Midlands but couldn't help but notice your post. My weather station showed clear and sunny yesterday evening, but this morning showed heavy snow at 07:30 with atemp of 1.7c, then its changed to heavy rain now with the temp at 2.4C. Very strange..... MIA ,
  17. , Not on your Nellie ,Staffordshire. We need another 2 weeks of dry weather to allow the fields/gardens/golf courses(delete as appropriate) to dry out to enable them to be utilised again. MIA
  18. Started snowing in Solihull at 09:10 Small flakes, but settling. MIA
  19. Just triple checking.... I've just seen the first signs of sleet in the rain, trickling down the window facing South East . Wasn't expecting that for another couple of hours. On checking the temperature is now down to 3.4C so it is on the fall. M|A
  20. Snow shower here, lasting about 20 mins. Left a covering of snow on exposed wind facing surfaces. First time I have seen snow from a WSW Force 6. Who says now that we will never get snow again from the Atlantic? For me this is a first in 68 years of weather watching in this area.so it must mean something. MIA
  21. Just started heavy rain sleet here... Come on snow --- I missed the whole of January so it will be first snow of the winter for me MIA
  22. Roger, Just back from holidays.... I was unable to access the network as I suggested in my post number 56 of the January Comp thread. In that I said if that situation existed could I put a placemaker in for -1.1C. Could I take this option please? It may be miles too low, but its better than not taking part? Midlands Ice Age
  23. Guys, I knew it would happen as soon as I leave the country for S America (Its 82F here today). Its snowing in the UK. Good luck to everyone!! GRRRRRR MIA
