  1. Some pink tinged cumulus starting to appear to the south of Weymouth & Portland now. Maybe a portent of something to come tonight?
  2. A little bit behind the times, but I had a really interesting drive from Weymouth to Brighton and back today. A27 had flooding issues eastbound, but as I went from the Portsmouth area this morning, there was wet snow falling all the way to Brighton. Soggy grass & pavements. Nice on the eye, not very impressive underfoot. Left Brighton late morning. Same sleety precip. A27 around Portsmouth & Southampton was amazing. Huge flakes, settling at the roadside & reducing viz. New Forest was white. Going through the Ringwood area towards Corfe Mullen, it slowly petered out to sleet & then nothing. Not a huge snow event, but an interesting one.
  3. There's only so much footage available. It doe's get recycled. To edit my post & give credit to BBC, they showed the old 'back in the day' programe, instead of a 2013 compilation. That's where the quality lies.
  4. More likely they are 'cashing in' on the present situation. Channel4 doesn't have the same production qualities as BBC, even back in the 60's, but it's interesting & contemporary.
  5. Has been sleety here for 30 mins or so. Now turning snowier again. Beginning of the end or the end of the beginning????
  6. Radar shows a brief lull for here, which is happening now, with intensity building again from the west.
  7. Snowing steadily in Rodwell. 30 minutes ago surfaces were just wet. Now settling & turning the garden & pavements white!
  8. Surface wind is still southwesterly, but clouds are moving in a more south southeasterly direction. The previously predicted scenario starting to occur & hopefully temps to drop & low dewpoints.
  9. Wind is still Southwesterly here on the Dorset coast. Here's hoping for a more southeasterly influence as the front approaches. Umbrellas or snowboots?
  10. Dry still in Weymouth, but looking at the radar, the two main areas of precipitation appear to be converging towards the area forecast for the south coast, IOW to Lyme Bay.
  11. An afternoon of rain with a hint of sleet..............and that's being generous.
  12. Hurn is often particularly cold due to the open expanse of the airport which is basically on sandy soil which radiates heat away very quicky. Not too hopeful of seeing much in the way of snow in Weymouth.
  13. Maybe they're just gettin down wi the kids..........innit!
  14. Steady light rain here. No surprise & no great expectation of anything else.
  15. Dryjoy joined us in the nice warm cosy SW thread from Wimborne, so this is definately the place for you!
  16. I see the south coastal strip appears to miss out as usual, but we might get lucky.
  17. Probably back in the 80's! Incidentally, Laura Tobin just said on BBC news weather forcast that the forcast currently changes with each of their model runs.
  18. I remember in 1981/2 a similar scenario. Warm wet front v Easterly High & dry. Dorset got carpeted in snow. I got stuck in Dorchester for 24 hrs. Not a great experience!
  19. Leading edge on the south coast appeared to be in Hampshire/West Sussex and basically up through the midlands. I feel (no evidence) that the HP will push it back west or south.
  20. First BBC forcast of the day gives rain for me Sunday into Monday. Overnight forcasts gave snow! Still think it could go either way. Hard to call how far east the warm front will get.
  21. BBC Southwest weather presenter just gave the forecast for the next few days, followed by the weekend outlook. He said 'you'll see I hav'nt shown Sunday, because we hav'nt got a clue whats happening!'
