  1. Heavy snow for 20 minutes or so but not a chance of it settling. We'd had a good hour of full strong sun beforehand and every surface had been warmed. To have any luck with spring snow the sun is best avoided.
  2. Snow here is now heavy enough to be settling on grass. Temp just above 1c and still sub zero dp.
  3. We have plenty of small flakes of snow falling. Just snow with no rain mixed in as yet. Temp is dropping and is currently 2.8c but dew point -2.6c.
  4. Definitely one of the better winter storms of recent years. Difficult to measure but 10 to 12cm here in the end. Memorable for a 1st 12hrs that didn't put a flake on the ground for more than 5 seconds and a 12hrs that was as blizzard like as I can remember. Beautiful March sun today. Time to look forward to the first 20c of the year. Great to see that, on the whole, the region did pretty well.
  5. That'll definitely help. There's more snow on my roof than on the road.
  6. Blizzard like conditions here with a bitter howling wind and a temp of 0c. After waiting 12 hours the snow finally started to settle at around 8pm and we now have full cover. Proper winter weather in 2nd week of Spring.
  7. I'd love to know what the Met Office app is on. I can't see where this forecast snow is coming from in the next few hours. Looks like a clearance coming from the SW to me for a while. The main interest is much later this evening.
  8. These fairly beefy showers running all the way back into N Wales look like they maybe of interest to us. As the low tracks east they seem to be taking a more easterly track. The first batch just hit here with the heaviest snow of the day. Temperature and dew point both dropping.
  9. Altitude is helping locally. Nothing here at 200m but get up at 250m and definitely at 300m there is a covering of snow. Just been over Ashworth Moor and nowt exciting considering the potential. All seems to have have gone much further north. Maybe we'll all get something as the front moves back through.
  10. I can verify that. Its actually quite frustrating and intriguing in equal measure. It's a very localised issue. If you run through the radar you can clearly see it. Screen_Recording_20230309_101521_Netweather Radar.mp4
  11. You couldn't make this up. It's as though we're on this little island here in Dale. If the wind has yet to activate the full snow shield then god help us later on
  12. Yep, not difficult to spot beginnings of 'the hole' on the latest radar. Moisture not struggling to get to Lancaster/Harrogate. Hoping this day isn't going to be as frustrating as its starting to look
  13. Difficult to see what's going to happen in 24 hrs at the moment so time to focus on what is going on now. On the current radar over the Humber estuary is a blob that is shown on the met office precipitation maps. The met show it making its way here early afternoon. Might be one to watch.
  14. Cracking sunset just now in Rochdale town centre. Two minutes later its all gone.
  15. From 30 miles to the north east there's some fascinating tops to those showers passing to the west of Knutsford right now.
  16. Fantastic walk to school and back this morning. Beautiful views across the village to Knowl Hill and Rooley Moor. Equally as good as the walk at 20c on a clear July morning.
  17. Managed to get around 3cm here. Mustn't grumble at that. Will look stunning once the sun comes up. Reading through the comments it again gives a clear indication of the variance of snow depth/favourable shower locations across the region.
  18. Spot on. Just having a whinge as I feel we've been here numerous times before. Radar suggests showers further inland already.
  19. I've got a feeling it's going to another one of those days with regards to snow. Showers from the NW are struggling to get past the M6 at Morecambe/Lancaster let alone travel another 30 miles inland and drop any snow. Unless there's a marked uptick in energy or instability this could turn out to be another dud from the NW in a long line of duds. Something that seems to have happened a fair bit in recent years. If it was rain you can guarantee it'd be pouring down outside.
  20. Nearly midday and it's still -3c here. Enveloped in fog all morning so no sun to help out. Bitterly cold and completely calm. Fingers crossed a few showers make it this far inland.
  21. Wow those dps have dropped from earlier. Now 8c down at -7.6c. Air temp exactly 0c. Stunning blue skies.
  22. Heavy snow here in a very blustery wind. Temp dropped to 0.3c now and snow sticking to many surfaces apart from those still really wet.
  23. A few flakes falling from this band coming from the north. Very marginal though as dew point still just above freezing and air temp is 2c. Hopefully will begin to drop through the day.
  24. Doesn't get much more grim than a wet and dark January day like today. Nearly 30mm of rain here which takes the total this month to over 100mm. Considering that's not far off an average total for the whole month, it's been a very wet start. A little surprised there's not been more issues with flooding.
  25. Looking like a grim day is on the cards today. Can't help but think that if it had been 5 or 6c colder this band wouldn't stand a chance of getting here. There's snow way it would have got to our region, it'd die on is way through the Midlands and the infamous rain shadow would suck the life from what was left .
