  1. Coldest morning in a while here at -0.2c. Only 0.8mm of the wet stuff so the front really didn't amount to much here.
  2. Trying and mostly failing to fly a kite at Queens Park, Heywood this afternoon and a cracking rainbow after a light passing shower.
  3. Turning into a wet one here. Almost 30mm since midnight. Flood alert for the Upper Irwell catchment ??
  4. Cheers Chris. Was only expecting the wet stuff today. Working outside today it certainly feels bitter.
  5. A few flakes in coming down here too a few hundred feet lower. Temp hovering just above 2c.
  6. Just took this with the camera on night mode. Amazing how much of the low light the snow must reflect as it looks like daytime.
  7. Definitely snow here at the moment giving a cover. Won't last til morning but been a great start to winter.
  8. Out for a couple of drinks in Rochdale town centre and it's fairly rare even in winter to have white non slushy snow lying for any period of time. Nice to see and very unexpected.
  9. Not bad snow at all for late autumn. Perhaps 3 or 4cm now. What's more remarkable is the temperature. Will not rise above freezing here today and looks like a bitterly cold night to come with a similar day tomorrow. Hard to get in mid winter these days.
  10. I've a North facing bedroom. Lovely and cool in summer but as rough as it gets on nights like the last one. Woke up to a nice sprinkling of snow. Feels sub zero in that wind.
  11. Snow now heavy from this band coming from the North, settling on cars and bins. Wild out there. Can feel that cold draught in the house when the wind speed peaks.
  12. Nice to see the first snow of the season ?. Not heavy or persistent but it's definitely there blowing in the wind. It's rare to get this from a northerly direction but it seems as though, as when it comes from the east, that the 500m high moors have become 5000m mountains. I'm not sure whether it's a malfunction of the radar but any bands or precipitation seem to be smashed by topography and wind.
  13. Lovely mid Autumn day. Food and drink in Rochdale town centre this evening under clear skies.
  14. This is some very heavy rain. My gauge is normally pretty accurate and was reading 12mm for the day at 3pm. Just about 4pm and it's clocked up 24.4mm. Half an inch in an hour. Looking at the radar there's more to come. Areas that flood easily could soon struggle a little.
  15. Glad the sun's come out cos I need cheering up after watching a dismal Rochdale lose against Oldham 0-1. Worst we've played all season by a mile. 8 year old whisky helps too. Make the most of tomorrow those who like a bit of warmth. All change this coming week.
  16. Great afternoon for getting out on two wheels again. Fantastic views from Tandle Hill in Royton looking out over Greater Manchester.
  17. Make that 40mm just before midnight. A very wet day considering the showery nature of the rain.
  18. A pretty awful day and a wretched evening due to the rain. Just clocked up 32mm for the day here. Very poor for early August. Even tomorrow looks worse than expected. Not a good weekend.
  19. After a pretty gloomy start to the day its turned into a cracking afternoon. Rode the bike up to nearby Greenbooth reservoir. Lovely and clear to the north but grey looking south to Manchester city centre.
  20. Aye, and if by some miracle the rain/ snow band had made it this far north in January our old friend the rain shadow would surely have kicked in ?.
  21. I think the fact that it is the worst day in such a long time gives the perception that it is so much worse than it is. Early afternoon now and still drizzly and no brightness all day. A cool 13c. Weirdly enough exactly the same conditions would provide a similarly grim outcome in late January. As far removed from ideal summer/ winter conditions as you can get.
  22. Unfortunately for mid summer it doesn't get much more grim than this morning's weather. Low cloud, persistent heavy drizzle or light rain, moderate cool breeze and 11c. Not out of place in late autumn or early spring.
  23. Bit of rain and a bit of thunder here but nothing much. As mentioned above, the remarkable thing about today is the temperature. 12.1c here at 3.45 on a late July afternoon is shocking. Around 18c lower than this time last week.
