  1. I've got a feeling it's going to another one of those days with regards to snow. Showers from the NW are struggling to get past the M6 at Morecambe/Lancaster let alone travel another 30 miles inland and drop any snow. Unless there's a marked uptick in energy or instability this could turn out to be another dud from the NW in a long line of duds. Something that seems to have happened a fair bit in recent years. If it was rain you can guarantee it'd be pouring down outside.
  2. Nearly midday and it's still -3c here. Enveloped in fog all morning so no sun to help out. Bitterly cold and completely calm. Fingers crossed a few showers make it this far inland.
  3. Wow those dps have dropped from earlier. Now 8c down at -7.6c. Air temp exactly 0c. Stunning blue skies.
  4. Heavy snow here in a very blustery wind. Temp dropped to 0.3c now and snow sticking to many surfaces apart from those still really wet.
  5. A few flakes falling from this band coming from the north. Very marginal though as dew point still just above freezing and air temp is 2c. Hopefully will begin to drop through the day.
  6. Doesn't get much more grim than a wet and dark January day like today. Nearly 30mm of rain here which takes the total this month to over 100mm. Considering that's not far off an average total for the whole month, it's been a very wet start. A little surprised there's not been more issues with flooding.
  7. Looking like a grim day is on the cards today. Can't help but think that if it had been 5 or 6c colder this band wouldn't stand a chance of getting here. There's snow way it would have got to our region, it'd die on is way through the Midlands and the infamous rain shadow would suck the life from what was left .
  8. Good old cold wet rain here. Thankfully none of that freezing stuff in the warning for this altitude.
  9. Still just about clinging on to snow up here. On the turn when it gets lighter. Heavy stuff still all snow for now. 20221217_112325.mp4
  10. We were lucky here. Caught the northern edge as it passed. There does seem to be a dry gap Southport to Blackburn. Think things will change as the morning progresses .
  11. Moderate to heavy snow at times for the last hour. Good covering of an inch on every surface.
  12. Looking chilly out there this morning. Looks like something is brewing in the Irish Sea for a few of us.
  13. We've been sat under low cloud since 10 this morning. It's as close to sitting inside the freezer as possible. Still not risen above -2c. The difference even a weak sun makes on days like today is incredible. Any soft ground is now rock hard so anything falling from the sky later will stick or freeze on impact.
  14. So far these showers are struggling to get beyond Wrexham to the south or cross the M6 before running out of steam. If the wind swings to more of a westerly later today and overnight will they reach Manchester or beyond? Can't see it at the moment but would love to be wrong.
  15. I don't know where Google's weather.com automated notifications get the data but it seems quite keen on the possibility of some afternoon and evening showers here. Not much sign of similar anywhere else. So much frost out there this morning it looks like snow.
  16. Anybody hoping for Thursday lunchtime snow best avoid the Met Office app map forecast. In contrast to their own timeline showing snow shower potential, the automated map has any activity way out west over NW Wales heading south. No idea which is using the latest information .
  17. It's been that long since we've had a proper frontal rain event I'd forgotten what they are like. The same goes for a lot of the idiot drivers I've seen today too. Fairly grim afternoon and a decent total of 17mm rain in 3 hours since 12pm with temps at 11c. October tomorrow and its definitely Autumn outside.
  18. Certainly going by some of the summers over the past 20 years this one has been a cracker. Another glorious morning today with mill pond stillness on the local reservoirs. Looking good for the next week too. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend .
  19. By far the warmest evening of the past week. Still 28c and not a breath of wind at 8pm. Last night we were 24c or so by now and the windows were wide open to blast the warm air out of the house with a decent breeze. No chance tonight. Lovely sat outside with a beer though .
  20. Can't see this thunderstorm via the Met app happening at 6 til 7 but looking at the satellite pics there does seem to be a little convergence maybe a little west of here. Let's see what happens.
  21. Local reservoirs not too bad. Greenbooth and Middle Naden here in Norden looking OK. Looks about 4m below a normal level. Beautiful day to ride up that way.
  22. This would be seen as a wet day anytime of the year. Over 21mm since midnight and still a bit more to come.
  23. Can confirm it was pretty wet for a short while under that heavy area of rain moving through. 4mm in the last 45 mins and 14mm since midnight. The contrast over a couple of hundred miles between rainfall amounts the past couple of months is staggering. Those south of a line from the Bristol Channel to The Wash can only dream of this rain.
  24. Anybody tried doing anything strenuous outside today? It is really humid and even at 18c the lightest of tasks brings on a sweat. Yuck.
  25. For many today marks the start of the football season and for most, if not all teams, it will be the first league match ever played in July. It would have been great to get out to today's match in the sun but unfortunately summer weather seems to have taken an extended half time break and it could easily be early October out there.
