See my post above, Andy - I agree. Maybe it's been SO poor that that is now taken as being in some sense a good radar. But it really isn't atm.
-
Let's be honest - while some many have a nice line headed for them, any objective look at that N Sea can only conclude that as it stands, it is really poor. Think back to E'lies and NE'lies where it was packed and it was very hard to avoid a good dumping. Or Scotland today. Hope it improves during the night, but, personal luck aside, that is not a good radar return.

I think we are hopecasting now as the radar to me looks worse than last night!
Admit it guys its pants and even for those of you with 2 inches its crap considering the synoptics
You really can't polish a turd, just be grateful that Scotland and Yorkshire got loads
Andy
Is this your opening pitch in the Club Presidency hustings?
I see I'm going to have to up my game...

Looking at the satellite I don't think all layers of the atmosphere are aligned in wind direction yet which will be capping convection. Some areas still going east while others north east. The low going through France should force alignment over the coming hours.
Until what time are we supposed to be in the firing line? Because as recent nights have made painfully clear, it takes ages for stuff to come in, and there's comes a point when you look at the radar, which is pants, and realise that's basically it, with no time for anything else to form that can hit you before morning.

Looks good for Newc/just north of Newc... shocking for here, mind!
-
OK so I understand.. the showers are forming better around the Morpeth/Newc line.. will they form better further south as the night goes on?
And will the winds veer further to the NE or is that it?
-
Is it me, or are they starting to move with a more NE'ly element now?

IMF 1am Wednesday
ICON-EU 2am Wednesday
WRF 0.05 3am Wednesday
Aperge 4am Wednesday
GFS 0.25 4am Wednesday
WRF 2km 6am Wednesday
Euro 4 6am Wednesday
One guess as to which will be proved right. There's a subtle clue in the formatting.

OK, so zooming out and looking at the radar (bad move), am I right in thinking that the heavy showers that are piling and have been piling into Dundee/Edinburgh/etc are basically what we thought we'd get?

Nick it’s the same here virtually nothing coming our way foe the next 3 hours unless the wind changes, such a pity when we have such perfect Synoptics, bear up we might still get lucky.
Aye.
I've made a hotkey on my keyboard for that gif. :|

Why do people keep mentioning streamers when we've had nothing close to one. I think it's time people woke up a little in here. People are circling small showers on the radar then are getting disappointed.
I'm not saying there isn't potential, but some common sense would help.
Yep.

The Boro to Newcastle gap is really clear there. Seems to be opening up... how will it fill? (Genuine question.)

We have snow. Blimey, imagine what we would have had with this kind of snow for hours. And before anyone says it, I am NOT popping into the Scotland thread to find out...

I know its far away and no one really knows but i will ask the question anyway, our best chance for some is if that front coming in from the west on Saturday. If this makes it over the pennies then the cold air in place here would see heavy snow.
One to watch i guess. ?
Back to there here and now, showers incoming.
We go live to the North Easterners working out how they might get some snow...

Agree with the 2nd bit, not the first. Most of the return is empty and 80% of areas are in line for nothing or very little (AS IT STANDS).
