  1. Dry cold yeuch, it’s cold enough now. But I suppose it might come from low to north east running down across country or, better for Wales, low to south west coming up and meeting the cold and us in the ‘battleground’ area. Guess we have to wait and see. Keep toys and towels close by, you might need them for extra heating. Just had my latest leccy bill and shelled out for oil and ouch, roll on Spring is all I can whimper.
  2. Good Grief. madhouse in toy and towel chuck because forthcoming expected, and definite now, cold plunge IS NOT GOING TO LAST LONG ENOUGH! WAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.
  3. Aidan’s Deep Dive on met office you tube was really fascinating. Felt chuffed I could understand what he was saying. So basically 60% chance colder, 20% chance snow, which chance gets greater through following week. I think…..
  4. On a calmer note. Spot the difference. One on safari, one on DuckDuckGo, both refreshed. Hmmmmmnnnn
  5. Dear heavens, over 101 members jostling in Madhouse, guess they all clutching towels and teddies very very close…….
  6. Crikey that’s a fortnight away! I was going to ask if we were nearly there at nirvana day 10 yet, but guess not.
  7. Presumably that’s where the uk snow has gone. Maybe they’ll sell it back to us. No, wait, they can keep it.
  8. Are you sure @andymusic didn’t write that? Cos there is alorralorrasnow in that there forecast
  9. When I was a teenager in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, the earlier the Shrovetide football game happened, the more the likelihood of snow at Easter, this year Shrovetide is tomorrow. Easter is April 9th, so who knows, climate change notwithstanding.
  10. “put it bluntly, the first SSW is unlikely to affect surface temps however the second warming might be able to downwell easier”. so is the conversation now about the first ssw, or has the second ssw occurred and that is what is being discussed?
  11. Also, was there and ssw in Jan 2021? I’ve been looking back through a Covid lockdown thread our local knitting group had on FB and most of us were posting pics of knitting in jimjams with cat/dog on lap in front of logburner, whilst it snowed like billio outside. These pics are from Jan 31.
  12. @andymusic and @keithlucky. Just popped into madmod. I thought we had just had the ssw and waiting on response, but it appears we have to wait for another one? Has the vortex not split but regrouped? Also, where are these barmy winds with Saharan sand from the south? It’s not budged above 7c here, with a fresh wind, a bit of rain and cloud.
  13. Very frosty morning, but clear blue sky, so once it warms up, set for a fair day. Goody!
  14. Hi @andymusic and @keithlucky. I venture into MADMOD daily and now thoroughly confused about WHEN the SSW is due to occur. I’m tiptoeing around the ‘we’ll see the results depending on whether Split or QTR’ debate well alone. Can you shed some light please? In other news it’s a cloudy and quite fresh day today. Temps supposed to be 9-10c but feels cooler.
  15. Temps on meto weekly creeping down a couple of degrees for my area…. Back to average for time of year. Another frost morning am and heating on for 2 hours extra, but sun’s heat strengthening daily.
  16. Spectacular sunset tonight, lots of cloud fluffs coloured deep red to salmon pink. Is that a mackerel sky? Anyway cloud fluffs still overhead so wonder if that will mitigate forecast frost tonight. Lovely sunny day today if very chilly out of the sun.
  17. Is grammatically correct, words that begin with consonants that have vowel sound beginnings are preceded by an rather than a. These are f,h,l,m,n and s. So give me a b, i’ll take an f. All h words should be preceded by an (leftover from the french) so an hotel, an hedgehog, an horrendous set of weather charts… but then an hedge, an house, an hound sounds a bit wonk.
  18. Wowsers, out of nowhere, a great rushing wind (sounds like aeroplane) just generally rushing around house and rain. Rain I expected but not the great rushing wind……. Sounds almost biblical.
  19. Blinking eck! Saw Friday afternoon forecast mild, mild, mild going to average, the looked at the meto daily forecast and we’ve suddenly gone averages average average with cold nights out to Thursday. Hmmmmn…..
  20. Last time I looked at the web, a few threads missing and a few bodies stored in the larder section, but garden spider still busy. The Sidney’s have been super busy digging up nuts, the more lazy ones plundering the bird feeders for peanuts in next door neighbour’s new rat holiday camp….
  21. Very probable for the USA. Think for us it’s back to them darn westerlies and more rain…….
  22. Sun ish then cloudy day today. The wind was cold though! Winds picked up this evening. Chatting to an elderly female ex farmer and she lives in the boondock heights. Last thing we want is a beasterly, especially late feb early March. We all shudder at the devastation to the farming communities when March 17 storm came and the resultant deaths of ewes and lambs. I think people in Mad thread don’t realise, when they fantasies about snow and ice, the damage it does to livelihoods of farmers , whether sheep, beef or crop/fruit. Sorry, but there it is.
