  1. Theres very frequent, distant lightning to be seen here to my South East; I would say its off the coast between Ramsgate and Dover. Very little thunder to be heard though. Here its just drizzling now.
  2. Just seen a flash of lightning - thought it was fireworks that someone has been letting off until I heard the unmistakable growl of Thunder - again!?
  3. Impressive stuff Neil We drove down to Minnis Bay earlier about 22:30 and there were a couple of cars down there - at least I presume they were storm watching and not dogging! Does provide a nice dark landscape along our coast so its ideal for storm photography - providing of course that its night time + theres a storm hehe
  4. I'll add the one we had in Thanet in the early hours of this morning to this thread. Near constant lightning, booming thunder and torrential rain. Not too much in the way of forks although that was probably down to visibility problems caused by the mist and heavy rain - saw a couple of CGs but more ICs one of which branched and covered the whole sky in my field of view (North/East/South) at one point!
  5. I only just missed this one by a day. I was in Rye visiting my parents the day before and went on holiday to Devon the following day. I must say though that evening upon arrival just outside Plymouth we were watching the news and the local weather mentioned this storm way over the in the south east! My mum said she's never been so terrified by a storm in all her life. The sky went so dark so quick and she knew something was coming but had no idea of its intensity. She said the worst part of it aside from the constant thunder/lightning was the hail and the size of it and how she thought it was going to wreck the conservatory roof and greenhouses at any moment. My dad said there was a bit of noticeable hail damage down at Winchelsea with a couple of cars damaged by it. He was driving at the time and said it was so bad for a few minutes there that everyone had to stop altogether on the road! I feel rather pleased with myself at missing that one but at the same time slightly annoyed it wasn't a day earlier when I could have got some footage of it!
  6. Thunder coming from a rather evil looking cloud (and has been for the past hour) that seems to be heading east just skimming the North Kent Coast here. Even seen 2 CGs from it out towards the sea yet the thunder sounds too distant; odd storm!
  7. POSSIBLY the most intense storm I've ever been witness to. First rumble of thunder at 7:20pm, lightning started about 7:35 and it FINALLY died down around 10:30pm. Even now as I type there is the occasional flash and exceptionally loud thunder. The lightning at one point was every second for a few minutes there with a shedload of CGs thrown in, some of which were extremely close. I'm sure there were two cells there, one straight behind the other? Must say didn't like that an awful lot; think I'm finally getting the ol' heartrate back down! -_- Jamie
  8. Quite a bit of lightning and thunder over the past hour here in Thanet (not TOO close I don't think) Hasn't half chucked down some rain too with a lot of flooding on the roads particularly over Broadstairs side!
  9. Still quite a few bright flashes lighting up the clouds out in the North Sea. Did produce a few quite loud rumbles of Thunder about an hour ago but it soon moved away.
  10. Theres been some pretty bright forks of lightning across Eastern Kent this evening that I've seen while being driven back from Tonbridge. They weren't too frequent but that might have something to do with the torrential rain at the same time - the roads were flooded in many parts!
  11. It's been lightning off to the East on and off for the past 4 hours or so with thunder occasionally. Driving back from Canterbury to Thanet about 4:15pm saw absolutely blinding hail/torrential rain complete with an unexpected bolt of lightning hitting the field near us and earth shaking thunder. Didn't enjoy that one very much!
  12. Had a big crack of thunder at 5pm just as I stepped outside at work and a few more rumbles after. Couldn't see if there was any lightning as I was shut away indoors but not long after we had the most torrential rain for a good 15 minutes.
  13. Thundering here in Thanet - seems to be coming from the east and is getting nearer
  14. Some spectacular forked lightning and loud thunder here in Thanet from a storm just brushing us to our West. Can't see if its CG but certainly some forks streaking across the sky! Getting louder too
  15. Thundering around here; not seen any lightening ... yet!
  16. Had a flash of lightning followed by a hefty crack of Thunder about 4pm this afternoon over in Broadstairs. This was followed by a good 10 minutes of torrential rain and hail but without any further thunder.
  17. Just got startled by a totally unexpected but very loud clap of thunder. Nothing before and just one flash of lightning and a little rumble after ... and that was it. Very odd.
  18. A few flashes of lightning and loud thunder up here in Thanet (East Kent) as I type! just clipping us heading north east out into the North Sea.
  19. My friend in Rye, East Sussex has informed me theres been a fair bit of distant Thunder & Lightning for the past hour or so, although nothing major he said as it is focused out towards the english channel.
  20. I'm hearing some distant thunder right now; can't see any lightning or determine where it's coming from though. There is some torrential rain going on and has been for a good 15 minutes now.
  21. Been lightning over in Broadstairs most of the evening starting around 5:40 with some hefty thunder too. The storms edge seemed to just clip us in thanet passing up the channel and into the north sea. The lightning, I must add was pretty impressive - haven't seen forked lightning like that in a long time! It's still lightning now well over on the North Horizon.
  22. We're currently undergoing the 3rd storm in just as many hours. The first 2 seemed to skim Thanet heading North (as usual) but this 3rd one has just clipped us. So far the computers have been switched off and unplugged twice and it hasn't stopped thundering for the past 3 hours really. I was about to say it's subsided out into the North Sea but theres just been another terrific flash and clap of Thunder so I'm not so sure! Everytime theres a large flash in the Dover direction the freeview signal dies for a few seconds!
  23. OK, so technically it is now the 5th but I'm down in Rye, East Sussex and theres just been a couple of rather impressive strikes with Thunder. Being sat with curtains open in the dark meant I saw both (even if the first did scare it out of me!)
  24. Had 2 distinct small storms here; one at 3:15pm and the second about 5:45pm. I must say the thunder was proper booming overhead at one point during the first one. I didn't actually see any lightning in the sky, but saw it light up the interior of the rooms I was in!
  25. There was lightning with distant thunder to the East here between 1:15am - 2am that didn't come to much. Then this afternoon about 3:30pm while I was at work in Broadstairs a very large storm came in, complete with a "wall" on its leading edge. The northern edge of it just clipped us producing a fair bit of thunder and lightning. There was obviously heavy hail over Ramsgate way, and judging by the percieved size of the storm; Sandwich, Deal, Dover & Folkestone looked as if as they got thoroughly abused by it. It was moving in a South Easterly direction so it didn't affect us too much! There is still an awful lot of convective looking cloud over on that western horizon though.
