It has gone quiet here now.

I have positioned myself at goring on sea and can hear distant thunder whilst watching a cell cross the channel.
-
Where to go! Micks burger then up to Mill lane carpark on portsdown hill, The Witterings, Bracklesham, Selsey or Goring on Sea.

If this evenings set up comes off anyone fancy a meet up?
I will most probably head to marine drive, goring by sea, west sussex to start with then see what happens. I am teaching first aid so will be available from around 6pm.

So what thoughts do people have for the south coast this evening and over night?
-

Lets see how it pans out, its still a long way off.

Great image. Does he use a lightning trigger.

I think it's thundering more everywhere else but the UK.
The more the years go on, the more I think there's been some worrying pattern change, probably a persistent shift in the jet southwards from the UK, which goes against the more active warm airmass storms in the UK.
I know I may be looking through rose-tinted spectacles, but what ever happened to those Plumes with the classic MCSs moving north across the UK in the evenings bringing several hours of thunder and lightning at night, they definitely occurred a lot more regularly in summer than they appear to in recent summers.
I have been saying that for years now.

Lots of popcorn popping up here now

Well I am sat up on top of the trundle and I can confirm the day has turned into a blue sky day

Way to far away from me my lighting detector has a 50 miles radius and the nearest storms are at least 100 miles away. There may be some high level activity going on I am just jacking work for the day so going to jump in the car for a bit of a drive.
-
My lightning detector is going mad but I don't see anything on Radar with in range.

Urm wow, we have been spoilt here on the Isle of Wight this morning!
What a morning it was, I havent seen thunderstorms like that in a long time!, All started with our own storm that was on us from 4:15am til about 6:30am, that one was a beast! And the MCS in the channel decided to be kind and hit the IOW full on from around 8am, I had been hearing distant the thunder getting closer and closer all before it arrived!
We took a drive upto Ventnor downs this time to position ourselves, we didnt know which way to look because there was lightning and thunder coming from every angle possible! I literally had butterflies i was that excited LOL! The rain started about 5 minutes into us being up there, and then got back in the car, lucky we did because there was and unbelivable flash and instant bang! I never heard thunder or seen lightning so close in my life. I said that in the car and then the next one was literally even closer, it was that close the thunder was the same time as the lightning, the car and everything shook, we saw the lightning hit a tree right infront of us! There was another 3 strikes that close to us after that, ive never heard anything like it, it was deafening, was an amazing experience! The thunder and lightning carried on for another 2 hours, just looked like there was no end in sight We even had hail, and saw some amazing anvil crawlers and multi Lightning strikes too!
What a start to summer!
Well hopefully that will be a good oman that we will start seeing storms like we saw 10 years ago down here on the south coast. About bloody time too.

Those of us, like myself, who are still learning how to read the Skew-T charts correctly, here is a very good guide, courtesy of Matt Hugo;

AWD That is a simple way to read a Skew-t But for us we need to Modify the Skew-T to get a reading for the T & Td for the time of day we are interested in. John Holms did write a tutorial on here some years ago that explains how to do it. Do a search for Skew-T and you should find it.

Rumbles now being heard in Chichester, probably the eastern edge at the moment.
Hi mjking73 good to see another local. Yeap I can hear distant rumbles and the strike alert gives an occasional ping too.
-
-
I am sat at my desk right on the edge of the IofW cell listening to the Strike alert ping being pulled to go down the to Hayling sea front with my cameras but I am so bloody busy I just cant although I am not going to get much work done whilst that cell is there. Grrrr
-
I would agree with that Paul my strike alert is not pinging
I am calling it a night I think it's not going to leave France
