  1. Like anyone else here I'm always hoping for lots of snow, but even if it's more frosty than snowy, I'd still take it as it'll at least be seasonal and would help keep the CET down. I like Winters to be cold as well as snowy. I'm still hopeful we'll get some decent snow sometime in the next few weeks anyway. Not that we've done too badly in that regard already. We've certainly had worse.
  2. Although that period covers 11 January's, 2021 was still colder than 5 of them including 1978, 81, 83, 84 and 86. That's not too bad. It'd be interesting to know though how snowy Jan 21 would be ranked (especially from the Midlands north) in that period, or more especially compared to the 5 it was colder than. Jan 84 had a CET 3.8c, so 0.7c milder than Jan 21. But that was apparently quite a snowy January in the north. I wonder if it was snowier than the one just gone. Jan 86 CET 3.5c had some snow near the beginning I believe but don't know more than that. Jan 83 CET 6.7c, so I doubt there was much snow around that month As for January's 81 CET 4.9c and 78 3.4c I've no idea how snowy or not they were, but I've heard there was a snowy period at some point in early 78, but that could have been in Feb for all I know. Speaking of Feb though, here's hoping Feb 21 turns out to be one that had it occurred in the 1977 to 87 period, would have been considered a good one for cold and snow.
  3. At 3.1c the only other January, 2021 shares the exact same mean CET with is, 1832.
  4. Absolutely hammering it down now with big flakes again too.
  5. Most snow I've seen in this garden since I moved here 2 years ago yesterday.
  6. Proper snowy episode this morning. At work till 2 though, so can't wait to finish.
  7. Coming down heavier here now, with the biggest flakes of the night so far.
  8. Just been outside to check. It's more like half thawed icy granules.
  9. Think it's turned to all snow now. Only small wet flakes though.
  10. We've got sleet . You can see a few flakes in the drizzle.
  11. Why are people writing this Winter off already. Last I heard February is a Winter month and it doesn't start for over 2 weeks yet. Then it's 4 weeks long before we reach meteorological Spring, add another 3 weeks until astronomical Spring (remember 2013 and 2018). This gives us at least another 9 to 10 weeks potentially for a proper cold and snowy spell. Keep the faith peeps, nobody can promise you there won't be any proper Winter in all that time.
  12. Would I be correct in thinking this'll be unlikely to deliver much of anything here, been too far west, at least in terms of accumulative snow, as I think some flakes falling at least seems possible?
  13. Oh well we've still got the end of January and still the whole of February to get something decent. Not forgetting most if not all of March too ( a bit late for some people's taste I know, but I'd take a March 2013 or 2018 every year if I could, been as those two months were two of the best 'Winter' months of the last decade). Speaking of February though if anything this is the one Winter month we haven't had appreciably below average for the longest, so maybe this year will be its turn. Not that I've got too much to complain about this Winter so far, having had both falling and lying snow already. But it's a big dump of powder snow with big snowdrifts I would like most of all. Hopefully the models will start throwing out more promising charts again soon.
  14. This is still in this flower box on our patio now. Less than there was in it yesterday though.
  15. Now back to sleety drizzle. Most of the snow has thawed round here now except for patches on lawns and some rooftops anyway with everything just wet. Oh well hopefully more opportunities to come over the coming weeks.
