-1.4 and still falling.

I read it as a downgrade. No mention of Easterly winds and no specific mention of snow. It's certainly more vague. At that range it's unlikely to be correct so not going to worry about it too much.

Blimey the MOD thread is dead. Only 10 post all morning

6.7 and 67mm for me please.

Managed 2.4 today with lost of frost still around. Now just above freezing.
Nothing very exciting on the MAD thread in terms of cold weather for the rest of Jan apparently. Some are even writing off the first 2 weeks of Feb . The models were keen on some sort of Scandinavian high a few days ago but seem to have dropped the idea.

Temperature Still falling, -5.9. bright sunshine. I imagine it will start rising pretty soon.

Annoyingly the temperature just crept above freezing for a few hours this afternoon, maxed out at 0.6.

Been a bit busy last couple of days trying to keep warm working outside!!
What's the latest regarding that storm that was showing for Sunday?
Looks like we will miss the worst of it, not much rain but still pretty windy with gusts up to about 50mph Sunday night into Monday morning.
Still -1.6 rising slowly. Lovely and sunny.
Temperature for Saturday has been trending down now only predicted to reach 5. So hanging onto the cold for one last day.

Wow! I'm not that far away and "only" managed -5.1, which isn't bad for here and the coldest this winter. Got down to -9 last winter but that was with snow cover. Without snow cover -6 is about as cold as it gets.
-
Temp now 1.8 slowly falling from a high of 1.9.
Hopefully the cloud will clear later to allow a frost.

If you look at the Arras webcam - they are doing very well right now. Arras is about an hour south of Calais. It seems that further south and east, it's a real mess, with people warned to stay off the roads in Luxembourg, and Frankfurt airport is mostly closed due to ice.
Webcams | ARRAS.FR
WWW.ARRAS.FRI could watch that all day but I guess I better do some work

I heard that a Scandi high was supposed to develop next month so the potential is there, I wonder if the Met Office has mentioned anything?
The BBC outlook hardly convincing

Yes NE21, fine margins indeed.
Although I lived through the severe Winter of 1962/63, I was too young to have any specific memories of it.
Right at the start of that severe spell of Weather and after the initial Boxing Day Snowfall, a Week later a Low moving East close to the South Coast, brought Blizzard conditions to our Region:
My Dad was working for the Southern Region of British Rail at the time, maintaining track and tunnels.
Heavy Snow accompanied by strong winds struck our Region around 9 P.M. on Saturday Evening, 29th December 1962.
Dad and his Gang had to abandon their work near London Bridge and then wait until 4.30 A.M., to get back to where we were living near Hayes, in Kent.
But the Train could get no further than Elmers End, as the Snow was drifting up to platform level, by that time.
With Snow up to his knees, Dad walked the 4 Miles to where we lived in Hayes.
Conditions were so bad, that the normal walking time of 1 hour and a half hours, took closer to 4 hours.
As you can imagine he arrived home exhausted, and frozen solid!!
Scroll forward exactly 16 Years and the image I posted a few Days ago, of the most severe conditions I've witnessed, regarding heavy Snow, accompanied by a Gale Force Easterly Wind, Saturday 30th December 1978:
Yes it is very rare to hit the jackpot with these Lows moving up the English Channel, nowadays.
Regards,
Tom Q.
Thanks for this Tom. I Remember the 1978 one just. The wind was howling and I remember looking out of my bedroom window at night and seeing the snow snaking down the road as it was drifting. The houses at the end of my street, facing the wind, had drifts up to their first floor windows. I was living in suburban north east London at the time.

There is a weather warning out for snow for the north of our region for overnight and into tomorrow morning. 1-3cms of snow possible across Norfolk from showers moving down the north sea.

Currently -2 after a low of -3 at 4 this morning. Since then has clouded over. I'm missing the sunshine.

Can't believe how close we all came.
I know. What were we thinking eh, expecting a proper snowfall in January of all months?

BBC weather just said 20 to 30cms in parts of Belgium and Germany grrr that could have been us. The system has been given a name by the French as well, Irene apparently...

Or stood along the coast with our hoovers?
Currently 2.1c and falling, DP is -2.7c and rising. Still frost in all the shady areas the sun didn’t get to today so the ground temp is still below freezing.
Just need the snow to go with it.
-
The models aren't going help us out. I think the only hope is if we all stand on the south coast and breathe in at the same time.

Current radar of rainfall looks pretty in line with most the models to me, West and roughly in line with South Cornwall
Yeah you watch all the model runs it looks like it's heading on a collision course then changes its mind and makes a sharp right and starts it's love affair with the channel.

My verdict on the models currently can be summed up in one word - uninspiring.
Some of the GFS ensembles look quite interesting after about 10 days but when don't they?
Looking at the means seems to indicate a slow drift down to average temperatures by the second week of February. Which is something I guess. Meanwhile we are stuck in the weather equivalent of purgatory. Mildish, cloudy nothingness
Currently 10.2 degrees and, you guessed it, cloudy.
