Haha. My wife just called me a loser. But hey what do they know :-)
can't see any flakes in Ockendon but one or two cars outside loo like they have a few flakes on them. my family thinks I'm mad too if its any consolation.

Snowing! Just went to the wheelie bin and then it was snow - fluffy little bits (very little)

anyone else seeing some brilliant mammatus cloud after the thundersnow hail event. Looks terrific
Yes I did, over Chafford Hundred as I left Lakeside shopping centre, and after a heavy, splodgy sleet shower. I was hoping someone else would have seen them!

Hi! Apologies because I'm not technically minded at all but I think I remember someone saying the GEFS have not been updated yet. does this mean they are still running with the bias of the old GFS or is the new GFS much better? sorry if this doesn't make sense, I don't usually venture outside the regional threads so please be gentle with me!

Windy ish here.
Trying to remember an old hymn/song I used to sing, about the rains came down and the floods came up.
Off to google. Be back in a tick.
Is it the one about the wise man built his house upon a rock? or am I completely confused?

check out the Highways Agency website, or the AA/RAC sites........IMO travelling from Croydon to Cheltenham should be ok, but if traveling early tomorrow I'd avoid the A417 Swindon-Cheltenham link and stick to the M5/M4......The A417 near Birdlip could be very tricky (it's around 1000ft and notoriously bad in any snowy weather)
I remember cars skidding in snow near the Air Balloon Pub on a visit to Gloucester a few years back.

As in still learning slowly Can anyone help me as to steves post about no snow in south east I think I can kind of see why. But what would have to change for us to get snow? Sorry to be imby but my part of essex (thurrock) always seems to miss out. Thanks in advance
Hello, not sure about the answer to your question, but I agree we often miss out when it comes to snow. I'm in South Ockendon. Whereabouts are you?

In a word no at least I very much doubt it but 70mph isn't out of the question judging by some of the charts. Its squalling up out there now, must be pushing 50, Hi everyone I'm new here. Well kind of not but I forgot my old accounts signing in details its been so long since I last come on here, I was Knightrider lol
Welcome back! I'm just up the road from you in South Ockendon.

It seems I've started quite a discussion! none of the wheelie bins are more than one third full, but they have decided to congregate on the front lawn in a little huddle....
-
Have been getting some quite strong gusts over the last 30 minutes or so. I have no way of measuring them other than by wheelie bin flight across the garden!

Hi you guys. Happy New Year! I really hope you don't mind me posting in here, but as a snow starved southerner I have just thoroughly enjoyed four days of walking around in crunchy white snow near my sisters at Swadlincote, South Derbyshire. I really love snow and haven't had any for quite a while in South Essex. I had great fun with my niece and nephew, but now back to reality ...

Hi everyone! Happy New Year to you all. I've just spent a few days in beautiful snowy Swadlincote in South Derbyshire, crunching around in crisp white fields. I hope it won't be the only time I see snow this winter, but it was a reminder of what we have been missing down here. Anyway, now back to reality, although the frost was beautiful this morning.

Thanks for posting those lightning maps Mapantz.
Storm reported late morning by my wife who is at school near Salisbury, nothing today yet in Warminster but the sun is slowly burning through the murk which is making for quite a tropical feel - certainly a lot of energy in the atmosphere.
Yes, its still so close out there. Last night's quite violent storm did nothing to clear the air. To me it seems like its been a very muggy summer. not my favourite type of weather, although I do love storms, especially at night.

Wow wow wow. What a storm here last night. Torrential rain, which i thought at one minute was going to break our windows :-) the thunder though is the most intense I have heard in years.
Bright morning here, but feels very sultry, with a very fine mist in the air.
Yes - the blue lightning was pretty vivid too! We had a powercut for a few seconds. We had to reset all the clocks this morning. round 2 later perhaps?

Yes exactly haha then mist here started to develop.
Feels very humid again though this evening - all the widows are open again!

Hi everyone? Any other Thurrock people about? Just had a very eventful short drive from Lakeside back to Ockendon. I could hear thunder in Tescos and the sky was black over Kent. I know they say the car is one of the safest places to be in a thunderstorm. However, not when you're distracted by forked lightning, loud thunder, gale force winds, stair rod rain and flooded roads! It's only a couple of miles to my house from Lakeside. It took forever, not to mention my thunder headache and goosebumps! Back indoors now and its still rumbling around nicely with the odd flash of lightning to boot. My family think I'm obsessed by storms ... they're not wrong!

would add that the autumnal feel that was suggested is not the case, still feeling mild for now, that may change later but to me it seems quite mild now so any fall in temps would still remain about avg for the time of year in my view.
Yes. Patio doors and windows still open here. the wind seems to be picking up a bit - enough to move the curtains.
-
Nice bright flash and some rumbles. Feeling quite close still. I have my thunderstorm goosebumps... always a good sign!
-
Afternoon everyone! don' know if its just me, but it feels particularly sticky here today. just doing the last minute bits before flying off to Tenerife tomorrow, and I'm sweating! Never seen a thunderstorm in Tenerife, but I have experienced thick fog and heavy rain there. Enjoy your storms if you get any, and see you in a fortnight.

Storm no.2 approaching, sounds lively!
Very close here atm
-
Yes. Just heard two really loud cracks of thunder :-)
Two just now were very close
-
Am in Corringham. Has been going for the past half an hour & rain is really bad - thunderbolt just now. How I hate thunderstorms - bad experience with one when I was younger.
I love them. Especially at night. The recent ones have been quite special, especially the lightning
-
Heavy rain, and thunder here. Just got caught in it over the park playing football.....
It seems to be developing as it moves off to the North. Very heavy rain for a time though

yes it was actually snowing quite a bit as I drove back to Ockendon from Bas at about 2pm. it was rain, sleet, snow, then by the time I got home plain old cold rain again!
