  1. Bright and sunny today. No snow what so ever, just bitter. Bit of a non-event for us in the west after all the build up. Must admit, I'm a tad jealous of the pics/reports of places literally 40 miles east of this area. Very cold though!
  2. Sky's clearing in Southampton, no more PPN falling. Can't see anything else happening now for us. Temp is dropping like a stone though -1.5 and dropping. DP of -10 !!!!!! and a ''feels like'' reading of -8. Crikey.
  3. Very, very windy out there. Bitter...! Wonder what will happen with that area of PPN off of Devon? Interesting, but then so were the showers that were pushing east...but fizzled out all so quickly.
  4. We have bits of snow floating around in the wind. It's a start I guess. Probably 1 or 2 bits every couple of mins if you look hard enough.
  5. Not too far from the Southampton area now by the looks of it. Got a feeling some of these showers may also clip east Dorset. We may be seeing a constant stream of these showers being blown across all night.
  6. Just started to notice that myself, could be very interesting. Looks some very heavy pulses in there which could bring some very quick accumulations.
  7. Weird, spoke to someone who lives in Havant today who said it was a white out. I guess it depends what your definition of a white out is!
  8. Not much of an event in Southampton. Really odd, cause I thought we were in prime position for it. With Havant and the IOW doing well out of this, I'm kind of confused why Southampton has nothing if I'm honest. We can't be too far inland, surely ? As with alot of events usually we're always too near the coast to see real snow....so how irritating is it that when the South does get real snow, we're not close enough to the coast to get it. Looks like we're just stuck in the middle of a weather wilderness! The only weather we get here on a consistent basis is light drizzle. Woke up with the smallest of dustings, but a bit boring if I'm honest! Someone raise my spirits..please!
  9. Weather can be very frustrating sometimes. All that heavy snow falling into the sea, what a waste! Even france haven't done as well out of this initial threat as was predicted. But weather does what it wants, when it wants. More chances for the extreme coast throughout today though.
  10. arrrgh I need to go to bed, but I can't quit watching it. This is probably the best part of it all, love the build up and anticipation! I keep hearing faint rumbles as well. Not sure if that's just typical Thornhill noises though
  11. Much more on the way - check out www.raintoday.co.uk, that mass will move up and is currently on course to hit the south coast. Not sure how far north it will get though. Within all that, there are some very heavy pulses of PPN.
  12. I would say, at the moment, the sweet spot seems to extend from East dorest, right through the new forest/southampton to the Portsmouth area. Does that sound about right to you? Possibly pushing up just below Winchester.
  13. Just been to let the dogs out, and I can confirm that it is bloody freezing.
  14. Snowing in Southampton. temp 2c and dropping (-4c dp) Good to see something, albeit very light, ahead of the main event.
  15. Jersey Met has issued a Code Red blizzard warning for tomorrow (Monday) morning. Sleet will turn to snow with gale to severe gale force winds expected by mid- to late morning. With up to 10cm of snow and strong winds, significant drifting is expected. A Code Red means there is likely to be major disruption and it alerts government authorities to initiate contingency plans. Jersey's Education Department is warning parents to make contingency plans for tomorrow in case schools have to close. A firm decision will be made early morning.
  16. Yep - you've got that spot on! Even a 1cm dusting brings this city to standstill.
  17. If I remember rightly, and my memory isn't always that good, we had a similar event back in 2009. The low was travelling east to west and dumped insane amounts of snow all over Southern England. This sort of setup is bingo for us lot, always has been - but from where this low originates it's also allowing some of the far South West to get in on the action. We always do well out of these sort of setups, and it's common from the models to prog it north/south...maybe a bit further south again, but at the end of the day I'm pretty confident that large portions of the South West and Central area will experience a decent event tomorrow. Obviously, how much lays is a question and a half but with these conditions being modeled I think we could all be in for a bit of a treat for March.
  18. It's weather, why on earth get so het up about it? I've been following this for a few days now and the most common view is that it will be around 5cm. Where you got thee once in a 50 year event is beyond me. But it's just weather. We will wake up tomorrow whether it's rain, snow or hail - and we will all lead the same lives.
  19. Ah well, very marginal for here. Shame. All in all the last week has given us a great event in this area. I was chuffed with our totals on Friday, probably as good as 2010 for me anyway. If that's all we get this year, and the likelihood is that it is for our area, then I'm chuffed. There have been times where we've gone without snow for years in this area in particular.
  20. It's really impossible to say if I'm honest. It's a case of radar watching and temp monitoring. Anything could happen over the next 48hrs
  21. Exactly the same was said prior to Friday. ''Costal regions will see more sleet/rain.'' We actually had 5-10cm's here, on par with the 2010 event for me anyway. Still substantial lying snow here as well.
  22. Wow, tomorrow looks completely unforecastable at the moment. We could have rain in Southampton, or snow, or sleet. Or nothing. Nowcasting to the extreme...if it does Snow, it could be quite disruptive too. Weather is amazing sometimes, with this you've just got to sit back and wait to see what happens. Anything could happen!
  23. Snowing heavy, and laying on top of my car again in Southampton.
