  1. Still drizzle in Southampton, it hasn't even been sleet/snow at any point and it's not even heavy rain....just boring and depressing ''light drizzle''. Temperatures are now rising again too, so I'd guess that's it for us. Anyone shed any lights on what we can expect next week? Haven't been following the models today so I wouldn't know where to start/what is coming.
  2. No snow in North Southampton, just drizzle but temperatures are continuing to plummet, just below freezing now. DP holding at -2. it's prime conditions for snow, so I'm baffled as to why I'm just seeing drizzle. Unfortunately though, if it does start to snow, the ground is so wet from the rain that it's got no chance of settling. Massive problem re: ICe though.
  3. Unfortunately at the moment it's just rain in Southampton, horrible drizzly rain. Temps are just above freezing (0.7) and Dew point of -1.7, so i'd have thought it was primed for snow. Obviously not.
  4. Ok, slight sizzle/sleet here now in North Southampton, very light though and you have to squint to actually see anything falling from the sky! - but there is something... DP still -3, temp dropping 1.5 at the mo. Once the heavier band moves over I'm sure our region will see a significant snowfall, but I'm not sure how long it'll last before turning sleety again.
  5. Still dry as a bone in Southampton. Not a thing to shout about so far.
  6. Positive is that it's still snowing to the west of us - hasn't turned to rain yet.
  7. Really? Dry as a bone in Southampton still, DP dropping to -3, Temp dropping back down too, and totally still out there - sky looks full of snow to the West.
  8. Temperatures starting to fall in Southampton now, DP still nicely -3.1
  9. The temperature will drop as the day draws to a close, and the snow band will not be here until then. We will all see snow. Some more briefly than others, but if parts of south devon are reporting snow we will see snow.
  10. It only takes 2-5cm to close down Southampton and shut 90% of schools! Good old Britain!
  11. Amber Warning of Snow for London & South East England : Bracknell Forest, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Greater London, Hampshire, Kent, Medway, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Reading, Slough, Surrey, West Berkshire, West Sussex, Windsor and Maidenhead & Wokingham valid from 1145 Sat 04 Feb to 2359 Sat 04 Feb
  12. Meto orange warning now covers the entire South Central area
  13. very interesting GTLTW...tonight and overnight is going to be interesting! Glad it's a non-working day tomorrow!
  14. Promising signs that it's hitting places in Devon and Cornwall and starting as heavy snow, according to reports in that thread. Similarly the Southern tip of wales are reporting snowfall as the front moves over. Doubt it will stay as snow that far west....but they weren't predicted any snow fall at all, which is why this all comes down to nowcasting and lamppost watching!
  15. Got down to -9 overnight in the centre of Southampton, the lowest the weather station has ever recorded. Currently -4, slowly rising....and so is the DP. I'm gobsmacked at the local radio forecasts this morning, as they're reporting this as an all rain event for the South - potentially flooding risk due to the amount of rain. I think they've got their forecast totally wrong. We will see significant snow cover, I'm sure of it. How long it lasts is the question
  16. The front has stalled a little further West on the latest models. This is what I've felt all along, i've always felt the models have been overcooking how far east it reaches - and I've always felt we'd get slight shifts westwards as we entered the game. Very promising for this region if it verifies as it takes most of us out of the 'marginal' zone.
  17. Check out the dew points, that's why. There's no moisture in the air, but I can promise you if you kick the ground it'll be rock solid (don't though, as it will probably hurt!)
  18. cheers for that post - appreciate it! Personally I think the South Coast (IOW/Southampton/Bournemouth) etc - does much better out of a channel low. I remember last year and the north of our region got plastered, but the southern coastal city's had a very nice accumulation too. Probably too early to say how this one will turn out.....but for the South coast cities I'd say it'll be a now casting event, as it will most likely be very marginal - IMO - but the one thing in everyone's favor is the time of day this low moves over.......it's during the early hours when the temperatures are at their lowest anyway. Going to be an exciting weekend whatever anyway! Lots of lampost watching coming up.
  19. Hi gottolovethisweather, Really enjoy reading your posts on here....as an experienced member, what was the run up like to the events in the South last year, and the year before? I seem to remember last years significant fall in December was caused by a trough and channel low? Just trying to see if there are any similarities with the current model output, and what proceeded the events last year. cheers!
  20. Yep, latest models showing it being very good for eastern central southern areas (models showing the front shifted a little further west) - hampshire could get a pasting, but we'll have to wait and see....still alot of time for change!
  21. Yep...I think we're in a great position actually, current models show us on the edge of it...but these will most likely push back a little westwards so we'd end up in the centre of it. Can't really say until we get closer though.
  22. I do agree with you. Even last year in December the Southampton area was said to have a rain event more than snow, but it actually turned into huge accumulations for us - probably the most I've seen in this area. This is very much a now casting event. Don't take anything from people posting potential accumulations, and which areas will see rain etc. As we know from previous winters...it can snow where you least expect it! Also on another note - we were forecast light drizzle on Monday morning as they said the little band of snow would fizzle out as it got to the coast. We had around 1 hour of continuous snowfall (didn't accumulate as the ground was wet) So that goes to say...keep an eye on it on the lead up, it could be favorable for everyone in this region.
