  1. Has anyone seen this morning's Metro? OH just text me saying that the front page warns that there is more snow on the way, met office on red alert for the south east! Have checked on the met off website, nothing obvious on there! where would that story have come from? Probably the big retailers trying to sell their winter stock off quickly, lol

  2. First post for some while, just a few observations noted when taking hubby to Ockendon station at 6 am this morning. As was predicted on here last night, no frost, but interestingly, the moisture on the car roof had frozen solid. Car thermometer read 1.5c for part of the two mile journey, dropped to 0.5 then rose and remained at 1.0 for the journey home again. Quite a breeze blowing. I don't have a compass, but it was coming from the direction I'd look for sunrise, which I know is somewhat north of east this time of year. Rather cloudy too and despite what the thermometer said, it felt bitterly cold to me!

Looking forward to at least a sniff of real winter!

  3. Ah, another one from the same charm school.

You're back I see - I thought you said you had gone. You are as consistent as the models. Make your mind up!

If you bothered reading the thread, rather than trying to be abusive, you will know I just post these graphical representations in advance of RJS doing his bit - I post these each day. Is that OK?

I could be wrong, but I am increasingly getting the feeling there is more likelihood of 250mph winds next week than you posting something sensible.

Don't rise to the bait, MB. There are a lot of silent lurkers, too lacking in knowledge to comment, but are intruiged nonetheless.

    I include myself as a silent lurker!:pardon:

  4. Sleet here, large amount of snow in the sky

Silly question why is there snow in the sky, you can see it, why is most of it coming down as a sleety rain mix?

    ehem, my theory is.....

Snowflakes are like meteors, they burn up in the atmosphere.....:whistling:

sorry, couldn't resist. I really don't have a proper explanation.

mods, if this is TOO silly, please feel free to delete!

  5. Well, stranger things have happened. I'd like to think that if I goad the weather, it will be provoked into one of the coldest periods of this winter at the end of the month :whistling:

There's plenty of time for anything to happen. I remember a year (don't know which one), but probably some 25 yrs back, we planned a trip to Longleat over the Easter Bank Holiday. Woke up to 6ins of snow. Got some strange looks on the other side of London, lol. So cold snowy weather possible for months yet.:yahoo: But, to make sure, you just carry on goading it!

Sorry Crazy Diamond, you said i had 20 yrs experience over you so i thought you were only 24-25, my appologies

No, my reply was a bit woolly! I meant that you had a interest in the weather for almost 20 years before I did. Apologies! :whistling:

  6. To mild out there, if only the lows would track more south and allow the Northerly in.

Crazy Diamond you around 24-25?? probably cant remember any decent winters apart from this year?

    Lol, I wish. :nea:

I can remember the 1963 winter, hauling a sledge with my younger sister on board. There've been a couple of others since. My daughter was born in Nov 1981, I think the temperature was -17c on Canvey Island at some point over that winter.:shok: (memory is not what it was!)

But this winter has been great, but seems to be fading into a sodden murk today though!

  7. Out of interest why from next tuesday temps here are showing double figures and a strong SW airflow, and its not changing is the GFS out?

    Hi Blunt

Not that I have any understanding nor experience of the models, but in the Model Output thread it's been reported for a while now that we shall be getting some mild air up from the Atlantic. The arguments seem to be around how mild is mild and whether or not this phase will be transitory. But, heck, it's too dangerous in there for an meteorilogical novice as I am to raise my head above the parapet to ask for clarification.:unknw:

  8. is it just me or is this topic extremely quiet today?

cold and windy here in chelmsford, cant feel or smell the snow coming yet.

talkign of which anyone else know what i mean about that smell of snow?

    Hi Tb2

I think everyone is lurking in the Model Discussion, trying to work out whether it will or won't snow in these parts over the next couple of days. If snow verifies, then you'll not be able to move in here :yahoo: If it doesn't then we'll all go head banging :wallbash: .

I know what you mean about the "smell" of snow, can't quite define it, but certainly recognisable.
