  1. Has caught quite a few by surprise Lynnism! Has been snowing in Petersfield but not as much as you've obviously had! Overnight snow forecast for our area on the BBC website.
  2. Starting to snow in Petersfield, light but biggish flakes and settling. That wasn't forecasted when I left this forum this morning! Looking at the radar more on the way!
  3. BBC South have it snow free all day Saturday and yet the five day forecast shows it snowing here on saturday! I cannot believe that anywhere in the South (apart from perhaps Cornwall) will have rain over the weekend especially with temps dropping because of lying snow. I bet if you watched each region's forecasts side-by-side it would be a right mish-mash of information. In a nutshell - I agree with you!
  4. Yes, that area of precip seems to be organising itself and heading in SE direction right over the SW. Interesting to hear if Ian F has anything to say about the likelyhood of it producing anything wintry.
  5. You could earn a few bob getting people out of the snow cos there won't be any windows to clean! I'm a delivery driver and have had to be rescued many a time in the snow so may be a good business venture! Fingers crossed for snow for you anyway.
  6. I don't buy how it's going to be 7c on Sunday. The ECM/UKMO etc are showing the cold to continue and with lying snow I don't see how the temps can rise that quickly. It's probably taking into account raw data from the GFS which will not have been re-modelled by the Met Office and Sunday is still way off yet in terms of weather!
  7. Hi SSIB, I think some people are taking some of the raw data being modelled as gospel. The Met office will use the experience of senior forecasters to re-model (?) the data, hence Fax charts etc. are probably more accurate at this stage. It's going to be great to see how things pan out though. Thanks for all you're comments and your efforts in trying to keep us all sane!
  8. Do you not think the output will correct back a little more E'wards tomorrow as is sometimes the case between the 18Z and the 0Z or is there a pattern slowly emerging here Nick?
  9. Ian Ferguson posted in the SW&C England thread earlier that the 'Chief' at Exeter has disregarded the last 2 NAE runs and is going for the precip moving in slower in line with earlier modelling.
  10. Difficult to see it getting to our neck of the woods SS but some may well see some wet snow from this band and some proper snow on higher ground or where localised temps are much lower. I'm still keeping an eye on the track of it though!!
  11. Hi Ian, please don't let the negativity of one person get to you. The vast majority on this forum welcome and really appreciate your expert knowledge and comments.
  12. Looking at the Raintoday radar, is it my imagination or is that area of precipitation intensifying as it moves towards Bristol? Could produce something as it gets colder during the evenin/night.
  13. Some of the comments may sound optimistic but are based on what the consistant UKMO model is showing. If you are basing your comments on what the GFS shows (and what you think the upcoming ECM will show) that is your perogative. But the opposite of optimism is pesimism which you could be said to be showing!
  14. Not sure about Feb 1947(!) but I certainly agree that the UKMO is on the right track in terms of undercutting. Also I have seen lots of occasions where the GFS is a little too progressive in terms of bringing the Atlantic in and my feeling is that it will slowly concur with the UKMO over the next few runs. Interesting to see the ECM charts though which may give us a clue!
  15. I remember Dec 2009 very well. I got stuck in Basingstoke and had to stay the night in our Warehouse. Snow came down from that low just after lunch, everyone panicked and tried to get home and the trafiic was a nightmare. We travelled 2 miles in about 9 hours. I couldn't get home to Petersfield which just had rain! What a day that was!
  16. It's 3.5c in Petersfield in East Hampshire. Stopped raining now and feeling a little colder but nothing to write home about yet! I was supposed to be playing golf at 8am Sunday morning but have cried off because I think it will feel raw out there with a day time max of 2c (feeling like -4c). Worried about ice as well in terms of driving so will stay glued to the weather on here instead!
  17. BBC South showing temps of 8c and rain throughout Saturday. I know that they would not have updated their forecast with regard the latest models but not even a hint of anything colder did they mention! (unlike our Ian in the West who at least alluded to it).
  18. Hi TT, that's just my point really. They very rarely venture into 4/5 day territory unless they're sure. The charts showing fronts coming steaming in and shoving the high pressure SE were quite dramatic. The words wet and windy were used several times. I'm not sure it will be as grotty as that forecast and there is a different view of things from Ian F in the Sw forecast on Iplayer which Chris55 kindly pointed out. Think anything past T96 may be a bit dodgy!
  19. Thanks Chris, I'll take a look. Just a bit shocked to see the BBC South forecast going against everything I have read on here for the last hour! Plenty of time for a turn around.
  20. BBC South has any high pressure pushed away SE'wards towards the Continent and say it will be a wet and windy weekend with temps around the seasonal average. A lot of the models I have seen on here in the last couple of hours are nothing like this at T120. Any suggestions as to why the Beeb are so sure of this?
  21. If England beat NZ tomorrow then will be like the winter of 1963! (sorry mods). I agree that the overall picture taking everything into account is very promising. The background signals are all there we just need a bit of luck and for things to move west a bit in terms of that low.
  22. Evolving indeed! BBC weather saying snow clearing E to W in just a few hours. I'm not so sure about these timescales. Precip obviously heading W, but as you say there are some heavier pulses building up and it doesn't appear to be moving that quickly on the radar. Oldmetman's view that there may be a small low pressure system lurking may not be a bad call!
  23. The Raintoday radar is showing precip everywhere apart from a small strip stretching from Petersfield down to Portsmouth along the A3 corridor. Not snowed here in Petersfield yet - will the South Downs have an effect with the precip coming from a certain direction? We in Petersfield normally cop it!
