  1. Here it is the moment you all have been waiting for with bated breath - my lrf based on absolutely nothing but intuition!

Firstly, don’t get too carried away by the fact that it’s been colder and snowier this October and November than it has for very many years. It’s not a sign for the rest of the winter.

I feel generally the weather will remain cold with the potential for snowfall up until about mid-December – most of the potential will come in short bursts rather like this weekend. Sorry, but no major UK-wide snowfall anywhere on the cards. Snow will be reserved for the north and high ground.

After mid-December we are due a change back to the milder, westerlies, a couple of windstorms before Christmas mostly affecting the north and west but for the rest of the country mild and relatively dry. This will take us through the Christmas period.

Early January it is possible to see much colder weather but of the dry, sunny by day and frosty by night type of cold. Could see some very low overnight minima during this period.

Mid to late January will then see a swing back to the Atlantic but again no vast amounts of precipitation anywhere away from the north-west. So chilly but not overly so and rather cloudy – dismal!

February and March should see lovely bright sunny days, overnight frosts but not exceptionally cold.

To summarise, overall much drier than recently, not a lot of snow, temps about average with a couple of below average, particularly in early January.

  2. That's absolutely appalling - I'm not going to their site again. Have corresponded with AB in the past re weather info and he seemed so pleasant - it's so true that you don't know what goes on behind closed doors. People should boycott the site so he doesn't get any advertising revenue.

  3. Hope this is the right forum.

Every year I go on a snowhunt in febuary, this year it was tallinn and was a disaster. Speaking to locals i was informed this winter has been the mildest they have ever known, the tempreture was around 4 degrees all week and it rained :wallbash: last year I went up to the scottish highlands, the weather was sunny and warm :wallbash: the year before I went to oslo which was cold and sunny, again no snow.

Next febuary I am going over the pond. I am currently thinking Montreal/quebec as they have lots of percipitation and it's generally below freezing, what do you experts think?? I don't want to go to a ski resort in the mountains, I want to see snow settling on roads and pavements, something I haven't seen for too long. So am I picking well or should I try around the chicago area???

Try going to Churchill in Manitoba - you'll get plenty of snow there from October thru to March. Was there last October and it hasn't stopped snowing since! Downside it's usually about -50 including windchill inFebruary

  4. Hello

I am looking at the moon in Ayrshire and there is a big kinda ring of light round it. Can you look at the moon please and tell me if it my eyes playing tricks with me and what it actually is?

    Do you understand?

Stuart - can't see the moon here (foggy) but would suggest it's a halo caused by ice - if I'm wrong no doubt someone on here will be able to tell you.
