  1. Hello everyone

Just been on Eastbourne seafront / beach near the Wish Tower watching various storms and special effects from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. Best storm night out in ages...many people on the beach watching it all and I even chatted with some people! I experienced:

    • A pink sunset rainbow - in the background you can see the underside / back end of that large MCS that moved up the Dover Strait early this evening
    • Various mammatus and turbulant air clouds
    • Extremely strong winds and gusts caused by downdraughts
    • Sudden changes in wind direction and air temperature....all of a sudden the wind changed and became very warm....amazing feeling!!!
    • Loads of cloud to cloud and cloud to ground strikes over the English Channel watched by me and others with mobile phones recording it....although having to wait a good few mins between strikes.....
    • very little or no thunder / rain....most activity was in the Channel itself

I managed to capture some 3GP video (use Quicktime) on my Samsung D500 of some lightning strikes (first time)...you'll find a great strike at 45 seconds in on 0005 and 1min 40 seconds on 0006.....amazing horizontal lightning strikes.....just zips across :( . The video is looking towards Holywell / Beachy Head (you'll see South Downs cliff edge on right)

  2. Big thunderstorm here in Eastbourne 11.35am with torrential hail....big deep rumbles.....came over very fast almost without warning...........took me by surprise I was expecting them this afternoon!! That was close I'm off my compter now! ;) It's over but still developing and heading out to sea Hastings direction :)

  3. Another big flash towards Brighton but too much low cloud cannot see any forked lightning.......rain is steady and winds are quite fresh still too quiet I was expecting it to be more frequent strike wise ;)

Just seen an amazing lightning folk light up the sky for a few seconds.........main strikes must me still a good few miles away.........terrible headache btw :(

  4. No south east will get snow as well.  Met Ofiice has put warning of south east as well saying that there could be several cms in places.  Will gradually die out this evening.

    Weather fan.

The warning doesn't mention East or West Sussex so I'm not really expecting anything. Shame. I live on the coast too so my chances are even lower I guess. That warning wasn't on there when I last posted. Seems that they are sure where the snow is actually heading. Most of it seems to be heading to the north / north east of me.

  5. Well no snow here on the south coast. A few cars have a light dusting where it fell inland overnight. It's sunny and clear here but a tad cold.

THE MET OFFICE have issued an severe weather alert for East Anglia at 12.09pm saying an area of heavy snow is likely to arrive this afternoon. Accumlations in places. Have checked radar and it seems to be heading that way. N-NW direction. Looks like it'll miss us in the south east completely.

Is the cloud thickening there anyone?
