  1. 28c and its not even 10am. Cloud melting away.
  2. 18c at 6.30am and met office forecasting a high of 28c in south Manchester. Seems a bit odd a temp rise of only 10c. This can be achieved on a sunny day in January surely with the the sun now being at its strongest we can expect a higher maximum temperature.
  3. Great to hear. Temp has risen from 1.6 to 2.8C over the past couple of hours. Looks like the warm sector is being pushed south and has now left north Lancs. Another hour and we should all be in the snow.

  12. Great to know Piers has written to Government’s Cabinet Office Briefing Room (COBRA) committee urging them to take immediate action. I can sleep easy now.
  13. Temperature has dropped from 5C to 0.4C in south Manchester with wet snow. Just got back from Sister in laws in Eccles noticeably heavier and sticking. Raining in Trafford Park. If you can avoid the urban heat island elevation and intensity seems to be the major players.
  14. 4 thunderstorms today kicking off at 6.30am and reaching a peak at 3pm. Plenty of thunder and a few nice cracks of lightning. 0.48 inches rain p/hr was the highest intensity maintained for about 20 mins just after 3pm. By far the best show for at least the past 3 years.
  15. Just had a sneaky look at Metcheck looks like there's a good 18cm of snow on its way.
  16. Finally some of the white stuff - oh no, hang on its bird 5hit. Getting closer
  17. Nothing yet again. Maximum amount of snow this winter has been half an inch of slush at the end of January. The roads 4 miles south of Manchester aren't even wet. Yet another failed easterly - at only 25m above sea level I think thats it until next Winter.
  18. Steady drizzle at Salford quays. Little change from usual just a bit cooler. Not bothered about snow rather see sunshine and frosty night's. Hopefully if ecm is correct should get some hp extending se from scandanavia later this week. Looks promising
  19. Started just before 8am in south Manchester with 21mm by 2.30pm. Heaviest downpour at 10am with 0.35 in/hr recorded. Although its eased off to 0.10 in/hr its still raining. Based upon current radar I think we'll be looking at a final total of around 30mm - unfortunately a typical summer's day around these parts :
  20. Amazing the difference a few miles makes. 1 mile east of central Manchester in Gorton the snow was 3" deep coming out of the Etihad stadium earlier this evening. 4 miles south of the centre in Chorlton theres just a thin layer of slush. Some of the higher areas in East M/cr and Tameside must have got a real pasting.
  21. Relentless rain all day. Up to 41mm since early morning and its still leathering it down. River Mersey looking very impressive as the lower riverbank has disappeared under the rising waters likewise the Transpennine trail. Surprising deluge after the relative dry winter. Just checked out the weather view on Google Earth. Our ribbon of cloud extends to the east coast of the states approx. 4077miles. Is there a name for these ridiculously long fronts?
  22. Was the forecast a result of the infamous Christmas data loss? Or perhaps key personnel to accurately interpret what data was available. Seems incredible that a forum of enthusiastic amateurs and semi-professionals can reach a consensus a full 24 hrs before the Met Office on the likely outcome of a not so marginal event. Their forecast was poor and to keep repeating it despite an obvious thaw was shocking. Personally as a tax payer I'd like to hear the Met Office's explanation of why their forecast was wrong. Is their an over reliance on computer models instead of relying upon experience and measurements of actual data? Sorry Met Office on this occasion simply not good enough.
