  1. Massive storm in Mansfield around midnight to 1am, thunder, lightning and monsoon-like rain, then heavy rain a few hours ago battering bedroom window. Bizarrely Newark 15 miles to east had virtually nothing.
  2. I'd rather you sent me some sun and a long spell of dry weather :-)
  3. I can assure you Yarmy it has not been settled and dry despite what the charts may say. For instance last week we were plagued by the low cloud and constant drizzle / fine rain for 3/4 days despite the charts saying sunny spells which never materialised on most days. On the weather radar the rain wasn't showing up, but it was constant for a few days. The previous week we had heavy, torrential rain showers on the Saturday/Sunday/Monday/Tuesday/and Friday .... The Sunday just gone was forecast sunny and just a few miles away in Newark it was baking, but in Mansfield thick cloud (albeit it dry) never broke at all. Saturday was the same, though the sun did come out for about an hour eventually. In fact, the best day of the past 2 weeks was yesterday when there were sunny spells on and off for most of the day before late shower. At the moment we seem to cop the worst of the weather, whether it is west or east based.
  4. erm, for some it has most definitely not been settled, sunny or dry at all, I can count on one hand the number of dry days in my neck of the woods, Mansfield, - and also on one hand the number of sunny days - in the past month at best. So no I am not happy by the current forecast lol and I am still waiting for summer.
  5. Still raining. How can the forecasts be so wrong at so close range. Yesterday it said this afternoon onwards would be dry and a little warmer. Wrong. Yesterday Sunday was a good day for dry weather. Now that has changed. And which model said 2 weeks ago June would be the best month of the summer?
  6. You are welcome to some of my rain. Only been raining for 74 hours and to think the NW forecast for my area today says 0mm precipitation!!!!!
  7. Exactly ... and to make matters worse it has now been raining non-stop here in Mansfield for 75 hours and still shows no sign of abating. That is not 'around normal', unless of course we get week after week of dry weather, which the models say is not going to happen. I guess it is not summer yet so there is hope.
  8. Sorry Paul, my post was a little vague ... I meant the general summary forecast on the homepage not the detailed area specific forecast, which as you rightly point out is suggesting cloud tomorrow. On the homepage Friday's summary, below, suggests I might have fared better as I am not in the South: Southern counties of England keep the threat of a few showers on Friday morning. There will also be a fair amount of cloud for the SW corner of Britain, keeping it cool at 14C. However, for most of the UK there will be blue skies and sunshine, light winds and temperatures of 16 to 20C. At least it will be dry? I hope ... no criticism was implied/meant, I am just bemused by the positivity of some forecasts and the gloom (literally) and doom of others. :-) keep up the good work, great site and invaluable for weather-lovers.
  9. Confused by the suggestion of blue skies for my area (Mansfield) tomorrow when Met O says cloudy and dull. and then again for Sunday, when Met O says rain all day for me and NW dry and brighter? I do hope NW is right!
  10. The Met O were predicting a decent weekend for me in Mansfield just a few days ago, now it is rain all the way Sunday. Forecasted better weather for today not right, and suggestions of sunshine Friday/Saturday also now gone. Looking at all the models, none of them seem to be close to the detail at beyond 24/36hrs. The outputs this morning suggest to my very amateur, untrained eye, that we might not see the sun in Mansfield for many days yet.
  11. Sun went in mid Monday morning. Rained non-stop to varying degrees since, 72hrs now. Seriously not sure if I will see the sun in Mansfield for 2 weeks looking at model output. Not sure where NW forecast gets its sun for weekend from.
  12. Rained all day, persistent nagging stuff after torrential bursts around 6-0am. What I find odd is that the rain radars suggest it should be dry here when it is still steady rain.
  13. Rain a bit more than light - again - just a few miles south of you Pit in Mansfield. We have certainly copped it a lot over the past week. Whether it blows in from the north, south, east or west, Mansfield gets the rain!
  14. Somehow Mansfield once again copping it despite being dry just a few miles to the east, not as heavy as forecast perhaps but after the day-long rainfall yesterday not welcome.
  15. Beginning to wonder if we will ever dry out. One dry day in January here, one in December, four in November and six in October. Oh, and despite forecasts saying dry evening/overnight it is now raining again after eight hours of torrential rain and looks set for a few hours!
  16. Rather than the hunt for snow and cold, I wouldn't mind a hunt for some dry weather for more than just the odd few hours - like this morning - to give us a chance to dry out.
  17. Wind howling, and quite gusty, all morning here. Perhaps as has been said the storm is tracking further south than first thought so we are catching stronger winds than forecast?
  18. Confused by forecasts for here. BBC going for it getting worse this afternoon, yet Met Office say now is as bad as it will get and XC says moderating from noon.
  19. Any chance of a more northerly track Pit? Not far from you and don't really enjoy very strong gusts. Like a decent breeze but not violent damaging gusts.
  20. METO update now includes my area. Let's hope for a more northerly track. Although bizarrely predicted wind speeds and gusts marginally less than yesterday's forecast.
  21. Confused by some of posters re my neck of woods. Some saying major upgrade for winds on way, others not.
  22. Getting slightly concerned for my neck of the woods as predicted gusts on Met Office, XC etc now increasing.
  23. Been an avid reader on here for years, now decided to post so be gentle! ... Is there any chance of seeing the sun in the foreseeable here in Mansfield? In the past week there was brief glimpse for 10 minutes yesterday. That means a whole week and just 10 minutes of sunshine - and I am not exagerating. Amazing, Even yesterday when the persistent drizzle of most of last week stopped, the ground didn't even dry out at all. Now the forecast says more of the same for us for the next week, drizzle, mist, low cloud but no sun!
