  1. Hi Alan - welcome to the forum, and hope you can get used to sorting the wheat from the chaff on threads such as this. It would be useful for you to put your location on your profile so that it shows up on yr posts. As for Sunday, it is looking highly likely that we could see up to 15 cm of snow from saturday night, and sweet spots could get more.....watch the radar and listen to the more respected members on here. SS
  2. Now that is one of the most IMBY statements I have seen Come on matey.....spill the beans and give a general report for the rest of us SS
  3. Neil - not really a sill question, but I believe the size of the flake is not actually anything to do with how heavy the ppn rate is, but more with the temperature and humidity levels. If the air is at or slightly above freezing, and humidity is high, the flakes tend to clump together whilst circulating in the cloud or falling from it, whereas in really low temps, they will fall as very fine flakes (as you quite regularly see in the Alps for example) Cheers SS
  4. You might get the southern part of it...but I think it will be a good hour before it gets to you...........will it be worth the wait????? SS
  5. I firmly believe that the 'streamer' you want to be watching is the one out to sea off the EAST coast of EA (that I mentioned about 30 mins ago) It is clearly starting to tilt NW'wards and I feel this indicates it is coming over the top of our small low. As the low slips SSW this will come more into play, firstly over Suffolk, and Essex, then through the estuary, and as history shows, it doesn;t take too much through the estuary to start picking up energy................ I have been wrong before tho :-) SS
  6. I would imagine the flash warning has been prompted by the large area of ppn shown approaching the east coast of EA on the radar. This apprears to be on the east edge of the LP and will probably start tilting somewhat more NW then W as the LP slips south. Looks fairly potent - keep watching the radar........ SS And now I'm deeply depressed......Collingwood is out.......................:sob:
  7. Kold or Paul Given that there is a convergence of two small systems (the one over Kent is pushing towards the NW, and the one over you guys atm is pushing SW) is there a possiblility of the two patterns interacting somewhat and producing a line on ppn through the estuary and into London (aka Feb 09)??? Just a thought as the ppn may be starting to come ever-so-slightly more towards the west from SW SS
  8. It pains me to say this, but I have watched the radar loop for the last hour, and I think the main band MAY have reached it furthest point east. If you look closely it isn't really making much more northward progres, and the general movement is just to the west of north. This would echo what was expected as it starts to loop westward. Either that or the sutton snow shield is working overtime!!!! SS
  9. I would love you to be right, but I think not. The radar is showing the main intense ppn coming up through portsmouth and then slightly east of north uptowards Reading. This is the area that will get buckets of snow tonight as you can see the ppn just lining up. It may come slightly more east than that, but the showers that have just come through Brighton are NOT the main event. That is just further west. SS (Sutton - Surrey)
  10. Steve - a bit away from you, but I am showing -1.3 atm......so you are prob there or there abouts. SS
  11. I know the MetO/BBC aren't going for any snow to the south of London for tonight, but I have to say they didn't forecast the ppn as widely as it has fallen today from the central trough, and the showers now moving across Wales def have a more southerly track than the earlier ones. Just got to hope they don't fade as the temps drop fast overnight. SS
  12. I like her ........can't we have her on the country-wide forcast.....and you can have Jay Wynn instead! SS
  13. In a funny way I am actually more excited about the weather in the Alps this week than I am about the astonishing prospects closer to home, 'because I'm off to Courchevel on 19th with the family for a week and its looking mighty good for some fresh powder. That said at the moment I have one or two concerns about the drive to Gatwick! Thanks for returning with the skiing thread this season - keep it up. SS
  14. LOL - Nick....I am in the best of both worlds as I'm off to the Alps on the 19th so I get the big build up here whilst keeping a close eye on the Alpine models too I have to say I am finding it VERY difficult to get anything done at work with the models so engrossing!
  15. LOL I can tell you there is nothing over Sutton but blue sky SS
  16. <_< I always determine sleet by car windscreen and conservatory roof - SPLODGE - very descriptive!! So, sleet here in Sutton! SS
  17. LOL - light snow just started in Sutton 0.2c DP -1.4c Snow is quite dry and falling slowly, but I fear it will get wetter quite soon, as the 850s are rising fast as the ppn approaches from the south. Still, cant be too grumpy as the snow we have already had was great, with the prospects improving for some more! SS
  18. I think that is just about it for Sutton/Kiev. Radar seems to show it will continue with the light fine snow, but nothing more, and this should stop in about 1 hour. Temp 0.4c (although I suspect there may be a small amount of snow on the sensor!!!) and DP -1c. Cant complain about it stopping really - 26cm level snow on my garden table - more than I have seen in this country for many years! SS
  19. General direction is NW. Look at a Euro radar (www.meteox.com) or the NW xtra one (much superior) and it shows the extent and direction. SS
  20. Good snowfall again in Sutton - gets better and better! Currently 0.9c DP -0.7c NW Xtra Euro radar shows another strong pulse of ppn coming out towards Kent and the SE! SS
  21. Really pleased for youPaul, your frustration was tangible last night! SS
  22. Just thought I would have a quick peek at the models as I had forgotten about them for 24 hours - WOW, all three in agreement for the whole week! - Worth having a butchers.... :o SS
  23. LOL "Snowless Surrey" really has come up with the goods today! SS
