  1. What drought? Can we finally put this to bed now?
  2. Yeah, since when does freezing cold air from aloft drop from the tropopause and freeze everything in a nanosecond! LOL.....The physics wouldnt allow it because subsiding air warms up as it becomes compressed from HPA 500 to 1 atmosphere or one bar. It was a hidiously dumb movie. but I bet Al Gore enjoyed it.
  3. The idiots at the BBC filmed the Eastenders Christmas episode in Clacton in June......you could see the "extras" for the set walking around outside in coats and scarfs , but the sun was a june sun with the brilliance and oblique angles which simply dont fit for December.
  4. Guys, your live video streaming is down again and its Friday night, the one night when we can all sit up late and watch through the night :-( just when it should be getting exciting too.
  5. My view is that the summer is over just as it has begun. You couldnt have planned the rain and cold to hit at the worst time in the one location which matters most this Sunday. Shocking.
  6. Well done guys, have been watching you live each evening this week. Great fun, even without the sound. But there seemed to be a technical problem with your direction of travel on the plotter last night. It showed you static for hours whilste you were racing westwards on the Interstate.
  7. Another totally overcast cool day here in London.....I took my gloves and scalf with me today after freezing on the bike yesterday morning. It was punishingly cold then.
  8. I was looking at Scotland temps for the past few weeks, OMG....its been colder than December up there with frequent hill snow and frosts on and off all month. dreadful.
  9. You should move your farm right up to Ferryhill near Durham because apparently the weather and climate up there just keeps getting warmer and warmer!
  10. My forecast is cold, cold and more cold.....dont expect any warmth until June.
  11. I think I have clearly been vindicated......there is no UK wide drought, there never was. It is a problem for the water companies to invest in the infastructure to cope with increased demand at times of dry weather. All the nonsense about the majority of the UK in a drought situation while it chucked it down everywhere for weeks and weeks amounted to pure hysteria about nothing. As I said a month ago....its only one small region in England who need to be carefiul because they take ground water and the water companies have failed to invest in alternative supplies. Almost the whole of the rest of the country is absolutely not in a drought. Rain is never far away in this island of ours.
  12. Without your input its pointless continuing to talk about you finding that its warm in your region. In the meantime, most of central parts and west midlands will be getting frost this week. Elsewhere, the cold, gloom and rain continues.
  13. The temperatures over the last 10,000 years have been rising. What you need to determine is: how much your temperatures have changed, over what period that change has taken place and whether that change is outside of the environmental change to make it significant. But if you know what temperature change has taken place as you say you do but wont say then we can move on none the wiser.
  14. Its that global warming again! except its not Global! Expect it to turn even colder again.
  15. Yes, I agree with you. This is the point that I have been trying to make. Most of the country has been tarred with a drought brush when its simply not true. The majority of the UK is not in a drought and does not have restrictions.
  16. Yes, anything is better than the persistent rain and gloom. Even if its still going to be cold at least if one can get out and remain dry or grab a few rays it feels better. I cant believe that we still have frontal snow in the forcast though this close to summer.
  17. Of course there is not a conspiracy. Its just that one has to be able to read between the lines to find the reallity of the situation. This will go down in history as the wettest drought in history. Even as you argue that all the hype of extreme drought must be correct because a map says so; some of the very water companies that created the hysteria in the first place have now announced that they will lift restrictions. I guess that speaks volumes for the truth.
  18. If one is in a serious drought situation then water companies will apply water restrictions. The fact that many of the regions which are marked as in a drought situation dont have any water restrictions or plans to introduce them demonstrates that something is not right with your data. Namely, its too general. The regions that have a problem are the minority here in the UK. I maintain my view that something is not right about the level of attention this is being given in the media at a time when we have all been experiencing flooding for weeks. If its been such a big problem for so many years then why have the water companies not altered their infrastructure to cope? Could it be that they dont expect the situation to be a problem in the future? or is it being overplayed?
  19. Yes, I think you are right. The emphasis should be on the demand for water and looking at the infrastructure to cope with the millions of extra immigrants we have and will have. They all need a home, a shower, bath, washing, cleaning, cooking etc, etc. London has introduced a dissalination plant to cope. But I really dont think we have seen the water companies do nearly enough. Our climate hasnt changed, its the demand that has changed.
  20. Here is the map showing that the water restrictions only relate to some areas. The majority of the whole of the United Kingdom are NOT in a serious drought situation and have no water restrictions whatsoever. This map shows England and Wales, but Scotland and Ireland also dont have hosepipe bans. http://www.karcher.co.uk/uk/about_karcher/Karcher_UK_news/Hosepipe_Ban.htm Further, these maps are from two months ago, since then we have seen record levels of rain in all areas.
  21. That was not my point. The media are making a bigger deal out of this situation. The fact is that it is not the whole country and despite what you say its not just my region in the south which is not in drought....its the whole of the rest of the country which is not in droght. Its only a small region in some central, southern and eastern areas who rely on ground water supplies. Thats the point.
  22. No, its not true. The desalination plant was not built in London to supply Essex and Suffolk with water. It was built for the forecasted increase in population by another 750k to 1 million Londoners this decade. It only runs in emergencies, ie terrorist attack or absolute drought conditions for Londoners. In my region of Essex and Suffolk there is no drought and no drought restrictions and there is no water being pumped in.
  23. Snow again in the forecast for Scotland upland areas today. Expect frosts tonight under clearing skies. Unfortunately, despite some dry weather this coming weekend, the cold weather will continue. Get those potted plants in under cover because the cold will deal them a blow. To think, only a few weeks and the nights will start to draw in again!
