  1. well it was raining moderate and steady but now very heavy ,and with some even heavier bursts now showing on the radar . also noticed over the last hour or so the back edge gradually slowing down ,wouldn,t be surprised to hear some reports of local flooding issues and if all of this gets a good wrap around could be some moderate flooding further east later today ,cheers all .
  2. Well it would be good to pull a nice summery august out of the bag gang . but at 10 days away, 20 runs of the main modells and 40 gfs runs a lot as we know can change .but ever increasing support for high pressure to become more influential to start August ,A nice end to summer will help the autumn and winter to be less painfull ,of course depending on what turns up ,some great posts brilliant forum cheers gang .
  3. where is everyone ,yes there is life apart from weather models etc . just had a look at charts and certainly no big heatwaves on offer . but an increasing risk of rain enough to top up the water table ,Gfs brings in some low pressure areas and soon the ECM will be out so lets see if that comes in with todays gfs runs . A realy mixed up summer so far ,pretty dry here in west country ,and i was down the south east recently and parched fields a plenty ,yet much further north rain a plenty . Some pretty chilly nights this summer but also some good days ,so at this point low pressure seams like becoming more of the order but no guarantee ,good growing weather though ,cheers gang .
  4. well at least we have potential ,but detail will have to wait till thursday i feel . currently i will be watching the bbc plus probably tomorrows met off update ,but you never know sometimes in these watch and wait situations a good system could give the trigger for some . Fantastic read on the colour of lightning forum ,but as i said any colour will do ,cheers .
  5. Very interesting discussion gang ,I can remember many years ago during a thunder snow event witnessing a greenish pinkish lightning ,probably caused by precipitation being of the frozen kind ,but there must be many reasons why lightning is different colours . I have read about storms in remote places where its usually dry and not that much pollution around that the lightning is very orangy but the further away from the source a greeny blue . well lets hope we see some come this friday ,any colour will doo ,cheers .
  6. Sky looking very stormy out to my west and s west ,A line of activity moving east ,just hope it continues to intensify . i,v taken my eyes off the weather game today so anything that pops up will be a bonus . i,v just checked the truckers channel and some very hvy rain falling in cornwall ,cheers .
  7. Evening all ,just popped in and things seem quiet on here tonight ,looking at current charts this weekend could be good for some but beyond that looks like low pressure will roll in towards Scandy . but as ever the case it all could change on the next runs . I would at this stage say that out to 144 hrs could go by what most charts currently hint at but beyond that i,m hoping high pressure to our s west could sneek in and perhaps eventually extend east ,by this time its mid summer , are we about to finish upwith an average overall summer or will more Plumes come our way . Thats one thing with our interest we never know whats over the Horizon ,But its great that we have this forum and so much knowledge to share ,cheers gang ps What a change to this time last week ,my wife is thinking of putting the gad fire on for a while .
  8. Every chance at this range ,only needs Atlantic low to move further north the high modelled to be slightly higher in pressure and we could be in with a chance ,but before that some changeable weather but no wash out ,we had a good plume heres to the next ,cheers .
  9. looks less promising than earlier disturbance but could deliver ,can see some lovely towers from here looking s west and west a bit more fuel up there now so heres hoping ,i want a good rumble on me birthday ,cheers .
  10. Thunder just heard on west mendip here ,now hvy rain and very squally wind . looks black further west ,i think cardiff would do better say than bristol but both in with a good chance ,just had very large flash followed by distant rumbles best of luck to all ,also those further north could realy get in on the action again ,cheers .
  11. Can confirm sheet lightning about every 30 seconds towards bristol channel from west mendip ,nothing of note showing on radar though . theres every possibility it could kick of later but i,v a nagging feeling its going to be more of a central or northern event ,but still plenty of time ,it as gone very muggy ,i,m not staying up but leaving windows open anything worth a peep will wake me ,but certainly all later than what was forecast .cheers .ps must say that many a time in the past going back years these set ups after a slight hick up could produce later in the night ,our trigger is moving in from the west ,its lurking about but time as usual will tell ,great posts tonight keep em coming please .
  12. couldnt agree more ,radar now showing a mass of rain right on the edge of radar ,i would say things at the moment are running late ,radar should look good hopefully come 9pm this evening ,but im pretty sure our area will catch some action so dont throw in the towel yet .sattelite also now showing that mass moving more n east ,best of luck to all cheers .
  13. Dont give up hope for any one particular area , i,m sure looking at current sattelite and radar that already things are not as first forecast earlier ,There will be i,m sure some very good storms around later and as usual many surprises so hang on in there ,cheers
  14. Still plenty of uncertainty even at this late hour ,but looks like wales west country west midlands and later further north could be the hot spot . It must be a forecasters nightmare knowing where any storms will break out and possible intensity . And also looking now that one or so notable ones could run further east . certainly a case of radar watching and sat view later this evening especially after 7pm as the light will show up storm tops good at this angle .If i was a storm chaser i would base myself probably somewhere in shropshire but just a rough guide ,Sky here gone very milky and feels humid now also wind we had as now died out . one spectacular storm passing over my area will please me ,but if its good enough areas around will still catch a good display . so best of luck to all
  15. looking at all current data and charts including bbc and met office i do i feel, sense we have a real chance of some action this evening . even at this range detail will change but we have all the right ingredients ,and yes i can hear some saying no but if the dice falls right we could get a humdinger ,would be nice to see one of those night time shows that rattles the windows and sends soot down the chimney . Looking at current radar and sat pictures i think possibly a little later than what was forecast a few hours back , cheers everyone .
  16. We will certainly get a better view of fridays action on waking up tomorrow ,i think many places could get a good humdinger so hold on gang ,cameras and radars at the ready time for a good flash Bang wollop best of luck to all ,cheers . :drinks:Action i feel will be a little later as currently forecast .
  17. Loads of ..... Heading north from france ,lets hope some of us get lucky and friday night /sat storms become humdingers for us in the south this time ,big spots of rain now falling here but not enough to wet the ground and current radar suggests a splitting of any activity . we did have a power cut for 15 min around 10am ish ,not sure what caused it ,but living in the countryside it could have been many of things ,cheers all and heres hoping for a humdinger soon
  18. Some great posts today ,and its great that we have the patience to wait for developements to happen in a science which is as we all know not an exact science . put yourselves in a plane at say 40,000 ft and its one hell of a size area looking down at to try and predict where an area of storms will develope .After over 45 years of listening to forecasts even 12 hrs ahead many many surprises pop up . todays recent Gfs run is very interesting for my area yet 12 hrs ago it looked different . The cold front to our west i feel is the key ,how active how fast moving time of arrival ,throw in the boiling kettle which is the UK ,in a nutshell Very complex ,i,m not directing this post at experienced Members but those new to the Weather Game ,which is a Game of many unknowns ,cheers gang ,
  19. Evening all ,we have just had a few spots of rain here on west mendip ,looking at the radar and sattelite the dorset coast could very well see some action soon . certainly the next few days looking good ,dont go too much by forecast ,theres plenty of potential around over the coming days and i,m sure things could be very surprising ,i,v seen forecasts change under these conditions many times ,great reporting on our forum ,keep it coming please ,cheers all .
  20. Looking good potential for many i think later wednesday onwards . Still a little early for any exact or close locations for storms ,its going to be a case of wait and radar watching ,many times at this range big surprises have turned up i,remember a storm back in the 80 s which was forecast to track n,eas, east of bath and just 8 hrs later it came crashing north across the west country with spectacular activity .I think we could have good potential late wednesday and again later friday pm . Fax charts i,m sure will be of interest later today ,well the plume is here lets enjoy .
  21. good morning all ,fantastic clear skys and just a little breeze to start the day . I would like to thank the posters who answered my question regarding lights etc ,these were not visible last night ,whether or not this was because of the lack of cloudcover or the lack of the source but cheers anyhow . well as far as storms are concerned the met office at the moment seem to be keeping a low profile for our area ,but in these set ups they can pop up quickly so keep an eye on the radar ,late tomorrow and through to saturday should produce so lets hope we are in the sweet spot ,thanks again enjoy this plume its been a long time coming .
  22. Well first off our area stands a good chance of some of the action heres wishing we get a good show . Off topic but i,v a question . over the last week to ten days from my location which is winscombe north somerset i have viewed out towards my south east some sort of light show ,almost like some one shining a powerfull torch into the sky . or quite possibly some sort of lazer .i have viewed this as late as 2.30am ,it seems to follow a pattern so probably controled on a timer etc . last night there was some thin cloud around and some very silvery streaks every few minutes . my wife thinks glastonbury or it could be from higher up on the mendips . Any info from other posters would be appreciated with thanks legritter .
  23. Yes you could be in a prime position ,same as me here but usual possibilitys of someone else getting the jam ,will be nice sat out tomorrow night if the dice falls right ,i love it when you see those night time flickers late evening knowing you have about 5/6 hours for a light show ,best of luck to all .cheers .
  24. Baps ,filled with bangers and crash ,and dont forget the brandstorm pickle ,just Fork it on but dont take the fork outside ,cheers .
