  1. It's a nice day. What's the problem? The humidity is like a warm blanket. More please.
  2. So you'd rather have cool, unsettled weather over warm, settled weather, just because it's nearly September? Am I missing something? I find that really strange - surely given the choice the latter is vastly more appealing.
  3. I find it rather funny that we make a big deal about something that has happened every single year for as long as anyone can remember. I've been alive for 28 years and I don't remember a single year where the days didn't get shorter in August and longer in February.
  4. What makes you think they'll be right? Their automated forecasts are mostly rubbish.
  5. Just like July. Maybe we'll get an Indian summer.
  6. Do you speak the lingo Bottes? I'd seriously consider moving to Berlin, not just for the weather either. Just can't speak German. Good thing you're not in Nottingham - dreadful stuff we are having to endure here. Think you made the right decision decision moving.
  7. Cloudless days aren't very common here in summer I find. More common in spring. The sun is too strong in summer and that causes convective cloud to build. Very annoying but whatever.
  8. I don't really love any country, but you're right - I like living in the UK, and my standard of living is high. The weather just grates on you after a while. I mean, it isn't that it's necessarily bad - it's actually agreeable a lot of the time - but it can be so irritating at times when you're yearning for something a little warmer and it just doesn't happen.. grr. I get the same frustration in winter. But yeah, don't take any notice of me guys.. really.
  9. And this is a weather forum.. go figure! If we can't bemoan the lack of nice weather on here, where prey tell can we? Weather is quite important - that's why so many of us go to Spain and Australia, and many more of us reside in France or spend a large part of the year there. Sunny, warm weather is good for the heart and soul. There was even an article recently saying that many British people don't even get enough Vit D because it's so cloudy! But anyway, I need to vent every now and again - even an optimistic person such as myself can only take so much disappointment before they need a good old moan. You'll probably realise that such rants by myself are very few and far between. They don't called me Richard Aberdeen.
  10. Can't believe what the GFS is portraying - suddenly it shows rain all day tomorrow and a max temp no higher than 18C while literally 12 hours ago it was showing nothing of the sort! I'm not happy, in fact I'm quite sad. I hate living in this country sometimes. Absolutely despise it with all my heart and soul. Hope the entire island sinks into the Atlantic - wouldn't make any difference to the weather anyway. :wallbash: :wallbash:
  11. We must be looking at different maps - I see the UK as slightly above average.
  12. Someone mentioned the lack of fog recently.. and I'm struggling to remember the last time we had any here. There are usually many times when the day starts off foggy but clears by mid-late morning, but this year? I can't think of a single occasion where that happened. Even in July 2013 we had such days. Not that I'm complaining - I don't mind fog in autumn or winter but I hate it in summer.
  13. Agreed - it looks particularly good for us east of the Pennines, as you say, continuing the theme of a very reasonable August in this part of the world. I see 25-27C here by the end of next week for the 22nd-26th period. Hope this output continues! August will certainly end up as the best month of the summer if this comes to fruition (but admittedly nothing exceptional for the time of year). ^^ chart is for the 23rd btw.
  14. Looking at the MOD thread I got the impression that the output was poor, but I just glanced over the GFS temperature predictions and it looks very nice to me.. am I missing something here? ECM doesn't look bad to me either - admittedly no lengthy high pressure spell but warm anyway. Meh, I guess we all have our own benchmarks for what is considered nice.
  15. No. Did you forget that the summers 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014 were warmer than average? I'm not talking about a heatwave - just warm weather. August itself has actually been quite warm for many places - and average for the CET area, and like June will probably end up near normal in the end. Your fears are largely unfounded.
  16. Sorry Pete, but you need to drop this fanatical 'Grand Minimum' rubbish - it's getting really annoying. Autumn isn't knocking loudly on anyone's door - Friday was never going to be warm regardless of upper air temperature because of rain and cloud. That won't be the case next week - which looks warm, even very warm in places.
  17. Looking good for my birthday on the 22nd - partly cloudy and 23C forecast. Hopefully the forecast will remain consistent until then. August 2015 here has been like 2012 and 2009 - just very average, but average is pleasant.
  18. Not great, but now terrible either. August so far is very nice though - and looks good in the forecast (the next 3 days excluded). Anyway, today was fantastic - my ideal conditions. 24C, partly cloudy with a gentle breeze. However, it's already 19C because the wind verged east and that always causes the temperature to fall quickly. Stupid North Sea.
  19. Th UK is often fresh and cool from October to May. Can't us warm-weather lovers have our turn just for 4 months or so? Please? We haven't been spoilt this year.
  20. I find some people have very low standards - July was only average in London temperature-wise, and sunshine-wise was duller than normal - by quite a margin actually - not to mention significantly wetter than average! North of Watford is quite a large area of land - the weather here in Leeds has been a world away from Cumbria or Scotland.
  21. A lot of Met stations have closed over the years so their coverage isn't as good as it used to be. The nearest station to here is Bingley which is at 262m ASL compared to my paltry 76-80m. Linton on Ouse would be the closest to here in terms of temperature but it's 20 miles north. Church Fenton was a good station to use but unfortunately that has closed down as well - and their old Leeds Weather Centre station closed in 2003. For a lot of us we have no reliable data nearby, which is annoying. This is where some amateur stations come in handy.
  22. I think it uses American dates - so 6/1 is 6th June and 8/7 is 7th August.. I think. Those Yanks are an odd bunch.
  23. They are objective to a certain degree - but you can't always take them at face value. A month might appear wet, but if most of it fell one one or two days, then it probably didn't feel wet at all - so why should I or anyone else care? That was the case in July - most of it fell on two days, with most days registering no rainfall at all. That seems perfectly sensible to me. And I disagree about amateur stations - some of them are very accurate. You just need to filter the inaccurate ones out and compare them with nearby official stations to see how they match up. If they are similar or the same as nearby official stations then one can presume they're of reasonable accuracy.
