  1. I'm all for riling up climate change deniers tbh. Good entertainment if nothing else.
  2. East Lancs Rain I didn’t realise Rochdale was so wet! Yes without the Pennines I suspect our average rainfall would meet somewhere in the middle. Snow streamers from the North Sea would probably reach the Isle of Man lol
  3. raz.org.rain locally, June was pretty good (though there was one nasty day with a high of 12C early on). July was very good (even if it was too hot during that exceptional heatwave). August however was simply excellent - I’ve sung the praise of August 2022 many times on here already but it really was a classic summer month.
  4. marky810 the heavy stuff isn't crossing the Pennines though, so I think we'll be fine. Today is actually a pretty good example of the Pennine rain shadow in action:
  5. yeah, I don't understand why this would bother anyone. Cold records are few and far between, warm records are a monthly occurrence. That's the reality of the world we live in.
  6. On the other hand, I find that 20C+ days in March are becoming more common. There was obviously March 2012 which was exceptionally warm, but here we also saw 20C+ temps in March 2021 and March 2022. Before March 2012 I don't think I had ever even experienced a 20C+ day in March.
  7. @TheOgre Parts of Norway are much worse in the winter imo - I'm thinking the SW coast, around Bergen etc. They mostly just get lots and lots of cold rain. Bergen has an average high of 5.3C & an average low of 1.0C in December, with 290mm of rain, 19 days of rain, and 12 hours of sun. Can anywhere in the UK match that level of awfulness?
  8. @In Absence of True Seasons tbf the UK-wide stats are pretty much useless because most of the population lives in much drier areas. I imagine most people in the UK live in areas with under 800mm of rain, and a big percentage lives in areas with under 700mm. My closest station gets 603mm of rain with 114 days of rain on average. Compare that to somewhere like Cologne in western Germany which gets 802mm of rain with 187 days of rain - that would be a very wet year for us.
  9. @East Lancs Rain it’s always interesting how effective the Pennines are at blocking precipitation even though they’re not particularly big. I dread to think how much rain we’d get without them!
  10. 57mm so far in January here. What I find interesting though is that 41mm of that fell on just 3 days. That’s a nice contrast to December where it felt like we had small amounts of rain every day.
  11. 14mm here today. Rainfall for the month is now 57mm, which is wetter than average but not by much (average is 50mm). Only 8 days this month have recorded more than 1mm of rain. The average for January is 11. Most of this month’s rain has fallen on 3 days (14mm today, 12mm on the 2nd & 15mm on the 1st). All in all not an awful month as far as Januaries go.
  12. @marky810 January really hasn't been too bad tbf, at least here. From the 3rd to the 20th we didn't have a single day with more than 1mm of rain, and including today we've only had 8 days with >1mm of rain all month (the average for January is 11). We've had 7mm so far today which actually makes it our wettest day since the 2nd of January. There's very little rain in the forecast after today so I'm not too bothered.
  13. Incredible, but I suspect this will fly under the radar simply because of how localised the record is. Only 8.2C here.
  14. @Metwatch 2010 was pretty close, especially in the SE with July being quite warm. It's been a nice day here - plenty of sunshine and a high of 9.2C. No complaints from me. I would happily take this weather all winter tbh. My preference in winter will always be cold and snowy but mild and sunny is a pretty close second.
  15. 3 entries from the 90s also, alongside 1989. Shows nicely how the current warming started back in the late 80s (with the winter of 87-88 being notably mild).
  16. @Summer8906 I don't think the nice weather of spring 2020 counted for nothing - we still got out and about in nearby parks and country trails, and spent a lot of time in the garden. I live next to a major park in Leeds and I have never seen it so busy/packed as it was during May 2020, probably because there wasn't really anywhere else for people to go.
  17. @NEVES SCREAMER heard a song thrush singing this morning. Spring vibes.
  18. Another chase that will most likely end in failure. Enjoy, I guess? I heard my first song thrush this morning which immediately reminded me of spring/summer. Really looking forward to the end of winter now.
  19. @East Lancs Rain dry and mild suits me just fine. I wouldn't be opposed to a repeat of 2019 in general tbh.
  20. @In Absence of True Seasons I normally see those deep blue skies in spring more than summer. Summer blue skies are normally milky/hazy in my experience
  21. @I remember Atlantic 252 at least February can be very mild and dry though, like Feb 2023, Feb 2019 or Feb 1998.
  22. August 2022 was a lot more than just decent tbf - it was excellent. One of the best summer months of my lifetime. Right up there with August 1995 and July 2006. August 2012, August 2013, August 2016, August 2020 were all decent. Even August 2023 wasn't too bad. August 2015 was decent up north but I know it was pretty poor down south.
  23. A lot of snowfalls in recent years have been quite marginal and dependent on elevation, so while Leeds has done fairly well (even here at a modest 85m ASL), further east around York they have done very poorly with little settling snow. 2020-21 was a pretty good winter in general here with some decent falls in January and February.
