  1. I can see things getting very messy round here if it does rain on top of substantial snow accumulations. Let's see what happens in the next hour...
  2. Same - 400m of knee high snow with drifts 2-3ft deep. Not going anywhere until a tractor comes down.
  3. Blizzard conditions here outside Much Wenlock - drifting snow is several feet deep - I live down a 400m inclined farm track and stand to be completely cut off until somebody brings a tractor down. The lights have started flickering recently. Good job I filled the cupboards with food yesterday and have a pallet load of coal and a car on winter tyres, but others are invariably going to be unprepared and if this carries on all day its going to be serious for people living in remote elevated areas. Also in March 2013 drifted snow was still around 3 weeks later in mid-April - I have a pic of a warm spring BBQ with drinks chilling in the still thawing snow! So if we get that amount or more then its not just going to magically clear up over the week.
  4. Still a good 15cm or so here after some thawing by sunlight - everything which was melting is now satisfyingly crunchy underfoot and icicles have formed. Seeing as I tend to get more than surrounding areas owing to elevation, and heavy drifting thanks to being on a south facing hill surrounded by open fields, tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day indeed! If this comes off I could see 40cm or more of accumulated snow. In March 2013 we had 5ft+ drifts.
  5. Some pics of my home in Shropshire - it's throwing it down again now. I'd say we have has about 8 inches but its at least a foot deep on my lawn ans surrounding fields.
  6. A couple of inches here on slightly elevated ground... I can see the A458 is stationary and my ex called to say the schools are closed and that its mayhem on the roads
  7. For those saying Shrops is going to get hit are we talking tonight, tomorrow daytime or on the weekend? Some forecasts are saying nothing here tonight. Makes quite a big difference as to whether I try and get down to London first thing tomorrow morning...
  8. I'm at home in South Shropshire but have to be in Southampton tomorrow... was just about to book a hotel from tonight and travel down late in the evening but before committing wondered which location you guys would rather take your chances in...
  9. That Shropshire / Worcs cell was surprisingly active when I posted half an hour ago - it would have been down over Cleobury Mortimer area I think. It was great distant lightning considering it was still quite light then. Looks like it's fizzled now!
  10. Seeing some fantastic forked lightning in the cell to my South and West in Ludlow direction - about 15-20 miles away. Anyone in line should in be in for a treat.
  11. It's inevitable Shropshire will get good storms as I'm away from home until Monday! I just hope I don't come home to fried computing/hifi equipment and another big lightning-induced insurance claim. I'll be watching the situation closely later (from Berlin).
  12. We had a good covering here but it appears to be melting quickly without any rain.
  13. Meanwhile a few meters 'up' the road, its white. Lets hope this streamer stays put...
  14. There's definitely something interesting happening to the South of us - I'm in Wenlock and hearing very distant rumbles to the South despite nothing on the radar between here and the Malverns!
  15. it's still to te south south west of Wenlock roughly. Getting some nice thunder out of it.
  16. oh and it's expanding like mad... I have a great view over open fields. no lightning observed but thunder increasing in frequency too.
  17. it seems to be passing to the south of me slowly but it's too early to say, so Stourbridge could be in line if it is going in a SE direction. Thunder every few minutes - distant rumbles but deep.
  18. Thunder heard here in Shropshire - about 16 miles ESE of Shrewsbury near Much Wenlock - there is a cell forming to the West
  19. Thunder heard in Shropshire - there's a cell forming to the West of where I am in Much Wenlock
  20. Shropshire's thunderstorm this morning has fried my Cisco router at home, it seems!
  21. tell me about it, its kept me awake half the night!
  22. My wife just texted to say impressive thunder and lightning near Much Wenlock, typical this happens an hour after I leave the area instead of yesterday when I was home all day. Oh well enjoy it guys...
  23. Here I am staying in Central London in expensive hotels all week to avoid daily travel problems (I usually commute) and now I am facing getting home to a remote South Shropshire location 600ft asl on Friday evening. Is it fair to say at this stage that this is really a *bad* idea?
