  1. Any idea when the heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to reach the east? whistling.gif

Another seriously disappointing "event", bring back the 1980's nonono.gif However I would just like to thank Roger for explaining the reasons why things didn't go as expected for the areas considered most at risk.

My strike alert did go off a couple of times this morning but that was because it was canoodling with the radio rolleyes.gif Much fresher this morning but under a grey featureless sky, normal service etc......

  2. The southwest looks like a good bet for those who are impatient for things to start. Thunderstorms readily building here then moving eastwards through the afternoon. Camera is charging ready for tomorrow. BBC Forecast certainly looked promising.

No idea why I bothered to charge mine - the stupid thing has decided not to read any of my CF cards wallbash.gif Good thing I've got a couple of spare compacts lying around but a smart visit to the camera hospital first thing is in order nonono.gif

  3. Hmm, netweather storm forecast has a jolly 0% for Norwich Monday - Tuesday nonono.gif Bit of a change from the 87% yesterday har har! Almost certainly will have to go looking further afield for some action...but how far???

I'll be at Wicken Fen tomorrow by 1pm, doing a bit of wildlife watching before the storms get going. Should be a fun day/night! :drinks:

'Ere, oo are you calling wildlife?? dry.gif:D

Hopefully we'll..er.. bump into one another, metaphorically speaking rolleyes.gif

  4. Definitely happy to have the opportunity to be west of Peterborough tomorrow, with a quick transit along the A47 if need be. Going to have to call it a night soon as up early tomorrow for finalisations & hopefully a scan through the TORRO/ESTOFEX thoughts. Want to hit the road before the rush hour aswell as to find a good vantage spot.

Quick transit along the A47? IN which parallel universe? whistling.gif:D

Think I might stay this side of Cambridge.....or maybe not....cc_confused.gif

  5. Good post Snow Joke. The problem I get in these situations, when I want to chase, is that there is too much info, and too many opinions, including my own (which is swayed and doubted very easily!) meaning I have no clue what to do. I have looked at a few charts and forecasts, and to me the best areas look to be the Wash, and further south towards the Fens, with parts of the E.Mids in between.

I am having difficulty knowing where to position myself for tomorrow. First idea was Wicken Fen National Trust reserve, then I though that might be a little far east at first, so I though somewhere around Bedford (Willington), and now I'm back towards Wicken Fen again! Even now I'm doubting this and thinking the best storms will be north of there?!:pardon::wallbash:

    I'm a mess haha! :oops::help:

    *passes Steve some Valium* blink.gif

  6. I'm starting to look at more realistically a chase further up into the East Midlands/A10 area *IF* the current charts stay as they are. The situation is currently fluid so even this might have to change by the end of today, no doubt not just for myself but anyone else also chasing within Norfolk.

I'll be using the "last minute decision" method rolleyes.gif but allowing myself an hour - hour and a half to get to wherever I need to get to. On the other hand I might just have to do a 10 minute drive to my optimum viewing point :) So for me no concrete plans until around 3pm, assuming that there aren't any major developments unsure.gif

  7. I am not excited :( Meto have me outside the yellow area. Boo hoo. Easterners always gets it. I'm moving house ...

MetO are really ramping it up for the East....whistling.gif " Dry, hot and sunny into the afternoon, but the high temperatures eventually leading to a few torrential, thundery downpours, mainly in the evening." And there's always the possibility that they're right......unsure.gif

  8. "Most people know to seek shelter once the storm clouds roll overhead. Few realize that one of the most dangerous times for a fatal strike is before the storm. Lightning may travel as far as 10 km nearly horizontally from the thunderhead and seem to occur "out of the clear blue sky" or at least when the day is still mostly sunny. The faster the storm is traveling and the more violent it is, the more likely this is to occur. Another time underestimated for its potential danger is the end of a thunderstorm."

The origin of the saying "a bolt from the blue"? :)

  9. I'm free and clear to navigate (as it were :D) on Monday clear through. Also can provide a base close to Norwich (as long as you don't mind completely bonkers dogs!) for free - plenty of parking and large lounge floor to doss down on rolleyes.gif just bring your own beer....

Bear in mind that there are only 3 major A roads in Norfolk - the A11, the A47 and the A12, although the A10 and A140, A1067, A1075 etc are good enough as long as you don't get stuck behind a tractor or Mr/Mrs 40 mph... The A47 is only dualled round Norwich and some of the other bits are prone to accidents through dodgy overtaking manoeuvres (Acle straight for example).

Also have a 5 seater Vito Sport for luxury chasing :D although if I go anywhere the dogs might be in the cages just in case disaster strikes at home huh.gif so I'll probably stick to Norfolk and N Suffolk, possibly over towards Haddenham as well if need be (lovely views!)

  10. Again, BASED ON CURRENT MODELS definitely!

If you are able to drive at all, all the better!

Correction from my previous post btw - EA still progged at 3000 CAPE based on GFS 06z!

Based on the 06z I wouldn't say so no.

If there is any eastward swerve or indeed you're anticipating that to be the case, then yes. I think above all else we could be at the mercy of the surface low...technically, they should push continental storms north and west, although this will be subject to its track.

We shouldn't underestimate either the potential for troughs to develop ahead of the CF...if a trough were to initiate convection of EA, then I'd detach emotionally from greenhouses and your nice cars lol

    And polytunnels? :D
