  1. I'm still in the club - and i'm smack bang in the middle and its astounding that we have just had the distant flashes from last week!

    1. The Notts storms got close then just went north

    2. the next morning they all went to the East - missed us again

So been visiting in Poole since  and just got back a few hours ago. Down in Poole they all went to the IOW!

looking at the radar this morning the storms skirted LB and hit MK - then they switched and are all going just to the south! (Wycombe - Luton - Stevenage). Honestly, if you looked out of my SW facing bedroom window, its like the parting of the red sea!

It is starting to get a bit silly now...

  2. My big 2 below....

    1. Ibiza 1996 - Non stop lightning and a constant roar of thunder for 3 hours! - all lights out and just bottled beer LOL! And a tornado! (Bit of detail below!!)

In spite of the limited period considered, the overall tornado occurrence relative to the area seems to be as high as in Oklahoma or Texas (Grazulis et al., 1993), and much higher than in other Mediterranean countries (Dessens and Snow, 1993). Fortunately, however, there have been no fatalities, but damages can occasionally reach several millions U.S. dollars, as on 12 September 1996 when the outbreak "O" case affected touristic and industrial zones. This episode is also noteworthy because during its final stage on 12 September, a small cyclone with tropical characteristics developed near Ibiza and crossed Mallorca (Gili et al,. 1997). SRH and CAPE for this case (Fig. 9a) are both quite appreciable.

    2. Bmth (from BBC site) - remember trying to watch 'return of the Jedi' at the cinema but the hailstones were too loud!

On 5 June 1983 a series of violent thunderstorms swept eastwards from Lyme Bay across Weymouth, Poole, and Bournemouth, and on into Hampshire and Sussex. They were accompanied by torrential rain (74mm fell at Winfrith) and heavy hail with stones the size of golf balls (43mm) in the Poole and Bournemouth areas, with one stone measured at 65mm across

    Been downhill ever since!!

  3. Small area of very heavy precipitation popped up to the south of MK in the last 10mins, friend just messaged me to say they had 5 mins of pea sized hail falling, no thunder or lightning as of yet but possibly a new cell springing into life from nowhere. Very strange outside too, winds picked up and i can see the moon illuminating huge thundery looking clouds to my south,  Can now see huge flashes of lightning firing off to the north of MK towards northampton.

Yes suddenly a lot of beds now has precip showing on radar. Our lone orange pixel came over, bringing its 15 drops of rain!! Some heavier stuff up the road in bletchley. Best place for it ;-)
  4. That's why being in the middle is always a good place to be Posted Image

    Afternoon all,

Bit of a busy couple of days for me - the pay off for which is another weekend away so it's well worth it !

Hopefully I will have time to chase anything in the area this evening if MK is not in the firing line...that's the plan anyway Posted Image

Happy Monday anyway (what's left of it) and hopefully those of that want the storms will be happy and those of you that don't like them will either miss out or find some way of blotting it out - I will probably be on the top of Dunstable downs doing my best to get some lightening shots Posted Image

As my boy is only 3 he hasn't really had much t-storm action yet, apart from that short hailstorm last June time? (the sat lunchtime one - there's so few, we know them all personally!!)

So is going to be interesting to say the least...

  5. Signs of slight intensification on that cell nearing Hinckley and another cell has popped up just west of Luton.

DP's are between 15-17c which is why it feels so sticky and should help with shower development this evening Posted Image

Cell west of Luton - Yep looks just over my house up in Leighton Buzzard. Might be a bit wet underfoot when I get back from the smoke..

The things I have to go through just to go to work ;-)

  6. Seriously though....If the summers carry on like this, many will consider emigrating. I think its worse coming off the end of cold winters year after year.

I suppose the only crumb of comfort is that if 2006 is considered to be the last decent summer, we are getting closer to ten years of naff summers. Surely it will just be a phase, like the no snow period in the 90's (when we seem to have snow every year now)

I'm a runner and its the windy weather I can't stand. Always feking windy!!

  7. Hi there everyone, Hope you are all well. I've been so busy updating my other blogs as there is so much happening worldwide. Yesterday's mild and sunny day was great and what made it even better, Palace winning the play-off final in style. One of my daughters went into Croydon's town centre and she said there were crowds celebrating...............Well done Palace.............Just need to stay up this time Posted Image

Happy with that - much easier trip to watch Bournemouth at Watford than Palace Posted Image
