The snow is just below the arctic circle and has some mountains west of it. will be interesting to see if it gets snuffed out or makes it here!

i think we are still in this cycle so i personally think this winter could produce a good snowy spell . last winter the azores high was on one ,perhaps this winter could be opposite .and dont forget although we had a severe december the year before last we have not had a long cold snowy winter for quite a while .so bring on the snow ,its certainly the magical ingredient ,perhaps it is a HARSH WINTER COMING ,cheers legritter 'we have not had a long cold snowy winter for quite a while' A valid point I think. If we are still in the cold cycle maybe we are over due for a winter 1947 1963 style as they were a very long time ago. The last three posters have been talking a lot of sense cheers!

To me its loading the dice towards a cold winter would be surprised but not shocked if its a warm one. Any one got any other clues showing up regarding our decent towards a cold winter, maybe too early to guess?

nice cam picture I.F. its up the hill from longyearbyen at 79N http://www.alltravel...servatory-15722 looks like snow has coved the lens at the present time! (snow ramp alert!) keep those white dots coming... not sure if it can be winter when the sun has not set at midnight?! but having said that it will be set by 14.30 by the middle of october. according to my astronomy program. I guess by losing 10 minutes of sunlight a day its going to look like winter soon. more cool snow cams link http://www.alltravel.../webcams-265614 any guess I.F. how long before we can start looking more south than this for a taste of the coming snow (days or weeks?) getlatlon.com shows me the south of Svalbard is at 76.6N and top of Norway is at 71deg The thing I like about longyearbyen is that its a town or a very small city and at sealevel rather than a snowy wasteland say on a hilly bit of siberia so it makes the snow feel closer to home. ok I'm snow talked out so heres to a warm late summer and autumn!

I think its the nearest low level snow to us at the mo being about 400 miles north of the top of Norway, I was a bit hopeful that it would be white down to the sea level but we will have to wait a week or two for that.....then the wait for low level northern Norway perhaps. Chuffed my snow ramp is working ; )

Other people may be able to show another forecast. svalbard is one hour ahead of us.

.....plus some red or purple arrows or dots may be added to keep a balance if snowy but record warm!
