gottolovethisweather Many Thanks. It doesn't look great as others have said, but remember back in 2008 there was quite widespread snow even in the south of the UK, come late October. To allow a comparison, is there a comparable chart out there for 2008 at this time or indeed a month on from there? Whilst I am not exactly forecasting such an event, there are certainly background signals out there, which indicate a probable, cool down from the northern parts. Harshwintercoming '' I would be well chuffed If anyone has any interesting signal or snow, artic ice producing weather modeling graphics etc to combine with snow events maps shortly before during and after they happen it would really pad things out here in this lean period of my lack of snow maps and snow chasing webcams and snow forecasts. Feel free to hijak this thread away from me! '' gottolovethisweather Since we are now past the Equinox, this NH thread should and will be getting a lot more attention in my opinion. The time period to which I get interested in, is from approximately mid way through the Autumn Equinox right up to mid way though the Winter Equinox. Using this crude system, my excitable period would last from roughly the 7th November to the 6th February. In that timeframe, snow would be much more likely to settle IMBY and stick around. Whatever opinion one has, if you keep your hopes and fears relatively low, then when the surprise comes along, they can be cherished, even more so.

My mistake, was fooled by the link posted by yido http://stevengoddard...d-country-club/ which does not prove the claim so here is one that does show it at -39C on the 8th September http://weather.glads...e=04418&days=28 Temps looking pretty normal for the towns of Greenland in the short term http://www.yr.no/place/Greenland/

'BornFromTheVoid' I think over the course of the winter the open water does generate more snow. But it probably isn't quite cold enough for that effect to take hold until October. I think I'll stick to what CM said for now. ''dont forget the great lakes etc in the US and Canada are relatively warm come early winter so great deal of snow is produced but this amount falls significantly as winter progresses and they get colder and colder to the point were little or no snow is produced...i would guess because the waters to the North of Russia are so cold there will be very little in the way of convective snow produced.'' I'll be waiting to see if October delivers the goods, as the ice gets close. we will see if it comes before that.
