  1. Well what can I say. It has been almost constant hoolie since I came home tonight and some of the gusts are ferocious, my wood burner is lighting up very time there is a strong gust. If this goes on all night i think I may wake up in Oz or at least without a roof...Toto I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!
  2. Was up at Nevis Range this morning. The Goose runs were not too shabby with a wee dusting of powder on top from the overnight snow. The other runs were very patchy requiring some creative ski moves - picture a giraffe on rollerskates! It got very windy and it was heavy snow so hoping to get some in filling of those patches and restore the links. It was much better than expected given the deluge but given the conditions earlier last week it was like a different place. Just off to check out the Garry. So much water in the Great Glen now. River Spean looked totally amazing and a wee bit scary too..
  3. Wee Jackie Frost paid a visit this morning but his miserable Auntie Dreich stopped by this afternoon. She has well outstayed her welcome and I'm looking forward to Sister Sleet/Snaw arriving tomorrow morning. The hills looked lovely this morning so hoping this wee mild windy blip doesn't do too much damage.
  4. Woke up to a wee white wonderland then spent the day at Nevis Range skiing lovely powdery bumps and jumps, my favourite kind of day. Not hopeful for tomorrow but will wait and see. It's a bit cool out tonight.
  5. Wow so many toys out prams in the various winter related threads on NW. Seems everyone wants exceptional winters these days. Too much moaning and not enough banter makes NW very dull. You'd think it was the end of the world the way some are banging on. They sound like a bunch of spoilt weans. Wee shame so it is
  6. Yesterday saw much improved snow at Nevis after a fall overnight and quite a few heavy showers through the day, we were there on Saturday too and it was a bit firm. Planned on heading up there today but the pesky wind got in the way again. Hopefully once tomorrow's damp squib passes the slopes will be good for this weekend. The winds are looking better for Saturday, fingers and toes crossed.
  7. A wee dusting of the white stuff...which was nice.
  8. still a lot of lying snow around up here to low levels, some really thick ice too, feels like it has been around for weeks. However there is still a lot less than there was - temps seem to be much lower than being forecast by MO. Nevis Range still has plenty snow and there is some more forecast this week so hopefully that will top up my smileometer for next weekend, if it happens. I don't mind this high pressure, much better than high winds and driving rain. Sunset was amazing tonight - the bridge looks awesome, what a cracker of a photograph.
  9. Woke up this morning to heavy snow showers and not much snow loss to my surprise. We've been skiing all day and it snowed heavily off and on for most of the day. It has also been snowing pretty much continuously since we came off the hill too so interested to see how things pan out. The mild sector didn't seem to have much of an effect in these parts. I hope those in more southerly climes get some white stuff soon or there may be some toys flying about by the sounds of it.
  10. Yes today's mild wasn't as mild as forecast (shocked sharp intake of breath). I await with said bated breath to see what happens with the weather, I will mostly be using the lookinootthewindae model, it's a proven model, no risk of 'downgrades' or 'upgrades', guaranteed 100% IMBY post generator. I love weather, I hate the MT. Lang mae yir lums be foo ae snaw!
  11. Temps are taking a dive here too. Still some snow and ice hanging on. Sleet and heavy snow forecast overnight so we'll see. Anything is better than the deluge we had this morning. I grieved for the demise of our pure white road this morning. It looked so pretty this past week even though it was lethal and sent my wee car skytin aboot like Will Ferrell in blades of glory. Let's hope these charts firm up on the polar side.
  12. May, for all the flowers and long hours of daylight and warmth with bright sunshine but on the flip side probably October with its lovely sunsets heralding winter in. Too difficult to pin even two months down. Each month has its own best bits.
  13. very light snow falling very slowly
  14. -8C and very dry and starry, beautiful weather and night, the snow is glittering. I really want to go back outside and star watch but it's too cauld!
  15. Snowing in Glengarry. Temperatures dropped quickly over the last hour from 3.1 to 0.7 with ground temperatures at -0.5. Rain to snow, hope it sticks
  16. Wow this morning's snow caused chaos on the A82 north of Spean Bridge. I couldn't believe how much snow fell in the space of an hour. We've had some sleat this afternoon but the snow is still between 2 - 4 inches deep having probably been about 6-8 inches deep at most. Distinct lack of snowploughs until this afternoon when they finally came down the A87. The forecasts are very interesting and it looks like we're going to get a good selection of Scottish weather over the coming week - wha’s like us?… damn few, an’ they’re a’ moanin on the MT...or mibbies no this week!
  17. A couple of inches of snow and still showers coming in.Was -0.5C at 8.00am.local primaries are closed and the forecast looks like it's going to get worse.
  18. Becoming increasingly windy up here too. Blasting the side of the house and making it shake. I really don't fancy losing power again. It's relentless now.
  19. Electricity just back on after 48 hours in the stone age. Feels a bit weird actually and very bright. We've played board games a plenty. Too long to go though but a primus, a wood burner and a multitude of candles saw us through. I guess it's just a case of when not if for the next power cut. So when is the next one folks?
  20. Well the power went off at 12.25am last night and isn't back on yet. Had to drive 5 miles to get a mobile signal too. Something quite nice about it though.
  21. the wind has really ramped up in the last half hour, some of the gusts have been quite powerful. Quite unsettling listening to it powering down the glen towards the house, makes you feel quite wee and a bit of a feartie really. I think it's going to be a long night.
  22. It's been blowing a hoolie here most of the day. Just had the loudest and longest boom of thunder I have heard, shook the roof and our nerves. Now gone all quiet - these next few days may look very interesting on paper but it's the reality I'm a bit anxious about.
  23. Frosty didn't budge today, it's still white out there. Another nice day on the slopes and hoping for one more tomorrow before the wind takes over. Doing a wee cold dance to make the mild a mini blip and hoping we get more snow off the next wee cold blast. Mon the snaw!
  24. -5 at 8.30 tonight and probably falling (too cozy to check again). Skiing most days now but hoping for more of the white stuff to improve the cover, that said the views afforded but this lovely high pressure are something to write home about. I'm definitely not complaining.
