A beautiful morning here in Glengarry, frosty, freezing misty foggy stuff, crisp sunshine too. We also just had a short light shower of snow. It was the slowest falling snow I have ever witnessed, mesmerising but sadly now gone. Loving this seasonal weather - Merry Christmas kilties. :smiliz19: :smiliz19:
ps. slosnow has just resumed!

Mauchit! Definitely the best description for tonight's weather. Just back in after driving through it, sleety rain and wind, yuk! Hope the tops are getting a re-coat.

Dear Santa, I have been pretty well behaved this week so please can I have either cold/ frosty and bright or white with snow, you know that bright still quiet whiteness that lights up your bedroom in the morning and you just know it's been snowing!!!
Anything but mild dampness please, that's for folk on the naughty list.
That's that organised...now what's next?

Car doors welded shut again this morning. Everything just looked wet but it was 100% solid ice. It is rain/sleeting in the Fort this afternoon, feeling chilly and looking very dreich at the moment.

Twelve days of winter doth not a season make. So far we've had mist, fog, freezing fog, air frosts, ground frosts, sheet ice, rain, hail, sleet, snow (lying snow), thunder snow, cool breezes, absolute hoolies, arctic blasts - all in less than two weeks. We don't want to get all samey, that just wouldn't be kilted weather would it?

The wet snow that fell yesterday and overnight was like cast iron this morning and is there ready to refreeze tonight.
-
Heavy sleet and hail, enough for tonight me thinks.

The squall hit the Fort between 2 and 3 today, it was wild. Flood alerts for coastal Lochaber so time will tell, let's hope the surge doesn't cause too much damage up Loch Linnhe. We are in a bit of a lull at the moment, there was even bits of clear sky dotted about. I don't think the lofty temps of 11oC were happening in Glengarry today, it was 4oC at 4.30 tonight and heading south.

currently -2oC. Very icy this morning, invisible, stealth ice that catches you out! It didn't thaw much throughout the day and there was some very thick patchy fog this evening but the clear sky above it doesn't look like it is going to last much longer looking at tonights radar. I'm looking forward to whatever comes in over the next few days but would really like a bit of lying snow to Chrismassy things up a bit at low levels. The mountains and foothills are starting to look a lot like Christmas .

1984, I remember wading through hip deep snow on my way to school with two pals, then all the way back home again because the school was almost empty. We were taken in by a surprised teacher, warmed up and sent home - to our joy. It was great. There was no way I was going to stay at home in that weather, It's such a joy to wake up on a snow day.

showers off and on from the wee small hours, cycling through rain, sleet and snow. A layer of wet stuff on the car and a crust on the lawn and the temperature is heading towards 0oC. I do hope the cycling stalls on snow sometime soon but irrespective of the outcome an interesting day for weather. Off to the Fort so hopefully get a snowscape extraordinaire.

That sounds just about perfect. Distinct lack of lamp posts round here so I'll just have to shine a torch for maximum flake detection. Thank you LS, I would love a snow day sometime soon. It's been tantalising the last couple of days with the snow on the tops, just wishing it to lower levels.

So will this snow event thingy be happening in the Highlands (Glengarry)? Or is the central belt going to be getting aw the snaw? Please tell me that is not the case, I'm about 100m asl.

-2.50 C this morning, the car door was frozen shut and then once I opened it I couldn't get the blasted door shut again because the lock was frozen. My windscreen however was clear due to the maximum foil blanketage slapped on last night. Looking wintry over the Ben and other mountains, snow level progressively lowering as the day went on. Long may it continue.

the MOD (mad, odd and demented thread) is just too mad, odd and demented for me. I haven't ventured in there for a long, long while. I can't lurk without getting annoyed and I'm just too much of a weather(all weather) fan to moan too much about the lack of waist deep snow/ rain/ cats n dogs. Regional threads are much more coothy.
I love this chart, I'll have two please!

I've had to scrap the ice off my car quite a few times this November so far. It is a pain in the posterior when you are late and trying to get to work but does make it feel more seasonal - that's about four times more than last year so far.
Travelling between the central belt and Lochaber the difference in weather is only going to get more interesting as the winter progresses - hopefully. Definitely feels like there will be a frost in the glen tonight so my wee car is wearing it's wee foil blanket, front and back, scraping no more! The BBC even said it was going to feel more like winter this week - I do hope they have got it right.
-
Bitterly cold in and around Lochaber today, lovely clear blue winter skies above the fog that was rolling about in the great glen. I got back at 4.30 tonight and it was -0.5oC with frost all over the car. Hoping the hills will get a good healthy dump of snow next week.
-
Ben Tee has a lovely wee snow cap today as do all the hills down the Glen into Fort Bill.
The mince pies are oot! Forecast says there should be more which means I may extend my seasonal menu to mulled wine too.

The infamous Dundee thundersnow storm spread to North Fife too that day which heralded a whole week of glorious snow days. Aah the memories!

Fabulous pictures, particularly the aerial shot. Please tell me there have been incidences of lake effect snow in the Great Glen?

Some of this please for Christmas/ New Year - as long as we can still get to the slopes though...too much to ask?

Santa is just too vague. They could at least give us a west and east Scotland - even the metoffice do that - come on Santa! Or do I need to add that to my Christmas list?? If so, I have been very good this year - can I have one week of heavy snow please?

Snow dusted tops down the Great Glen on to the Grey Corries, over the Ben and the Mamores this morning, a beautiful sight driving into work with mist blanketing the glen floor. It surely was a shortbread tin moment. However within minutes of arriving at work the whole awesomeness was cocooned in cloud...typical There was still a bit of snow left when I came out tonight too, shame it will be gone by tomorrow but it was nice to see. Time to dust off the snowboard.

Still pouring with rain in Fort William and Lochaber area. Standing water on the A82 is bad. Forecast to continue until tomorrow morning! Loch Lochy is very high as are all the rivers so goodness knows what the drive to work tomorrow will be like. Had to dodge a large tree and minor landslip this morning but Bear Scotland are doing a splendid job of clearing up given the conditions. Coupled with that the winds have got up again in Glengarry...time for a cosy fire me thinks.

Freezing out there, sore face on my coldometer but rewarded with loads of amazing frost flowers scattered throughout the forest.
