  1. since I emptied the small pond and threw the 8 or 9 frogs from there in the main pond it seems to have come to life!

I'm not sure whether its frogs deciding to do what they usually do or the new and old residents fighting for territory.

I found and accidently kicked out one frog I found from a fake flower that the previous owners had put in our garden! I then put it back being sentimental so that he could climb back in. That was in Novemeber. Not seen him since. We will be putting a pond into our new garden this year. What is the best time to do so? Until that was done I was thinking of putting a small trug into the ground with some stones in so that "little people" can get in and out should they want to. Does that sound a good idea?

  2. Half fun half a serious discussion. To open proceedings i propose the county of Hampshire,in the last 17 years there have been very few instances of snow here, indeed Steve Murrs brilliant piece on the slow erosion of snow showed this area of late in white ie no recorded lying snow, this year and last year we have seen not a single flake in fact 28 1 04 last snow of any note.I am not claiming the title lol just getting the ball rolling

Correct that was an inch or 2 wasnt it in the thudner snow event. Daniel and me had only been living together for 5 months and we were packing to move again! I remember battling through the snow to the car with all these boxes. Ah memories!!Loved it! Took us 30mins to do a 5min journey slipping everywhere.

I live in basingstoke, Hampshire and last year I had two days of lying snow, this year I have not seen a single flake.

You did! I travelled up by train to see it as someone on the board had said there was a couple of inches. By the time I got there it was nearly melted and just a sprinkling

Went to Gibraltar once! They had a massive Hail Storm! All the locals were shouting!

"Its Snowing, its Snowing!" How many more years until we get like that here B) B)

    -5?

I would have thought the south coast of England from Brighton westwards. Even in a very snowy month such as December 1981, they saw no lying snow under Met Office rules.

    1) When was the last time Hants had lying snow and

    2) What are the official rules?

  3. The worst thing we did was have christmas. The weather was "perfect" in "modern day times" until then. Nice and cold and crisp. Gorgeous. As close to snow as you get here! Then 2 days before christmas it all went tittties up and has been horrendous for snow ever since. Then to be frank that was actually all of autumn and 3 weeks of winter. So from that point of view yes terrible winter.

  4. I have just noticed I seem to have some daffodils in the garden appearing. Also I still have pansies from last year!!! They stopped growing all summer then started in October/November to get flowers and I thought the poor buggers a matter of weeks and the will be dead. But no they have held on! Very weird indeed!! I planted some bulbs after christmas so im wondering if they will grow this year. Guessing not!

  5. Weather forecasters are predicting chaos on the roads as Britain returns to work next week, with warnings of ice, sleet, and freezing temperatures. (According to yahoo - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20071231...-6323e80_1.html)

Piers Corbyn, from long-range forecasters WeatherAction, said: "The winds from Siberia are going to make it extremely cold - like the conditions we experienced in January 1987 where it was -12C (10.4F) in the south.

"The average temperature for January as a whole will be close to freezing - 0.8C (33.4F) at best."

He added that temperatures could plummet to -17C (1.4F) in the Midlands.

The Highways Agency seem in agreement, having put hundreds of gritting vehicles on standby across the country.

But Stephen Davenport, senior meteorologist at MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "Apocalyptic predictions verging on prophecies of a new Ice Age need to be put into perspective.

"There is no doubt at all that it will feel bitterly cold, especially on Thursday and particularly in the eastern half of Britain.

"Strong, raw winds from the east will bring a significant wind-chill and showers of sleet and snow. In the middle of winter such conditions are hardly unknown though, and in fact could be far, far worse. Indeed, some people in the western half of the country might be left wondering what all the fuss is about.

"By the weekend this brief freeze will have disappeared, as milder and occasionally wet and windy weather blasts in from the west.

"That will put winter on hold again for most areas until at least the middle of next week, although snow is possible for a time in the North on Sunday and Monday."

  8. Hi dogs I have charged up batteries for our little radio.I am dreading the power going if this happens. We have everything electric here,no gas cooker etc :( So i guess we will have to live on sandwiches and such! also fridge and freezer will defrost :o I Thought my home town Plymouth was bad for weather, but never, since living here for 7 years have I ever experienced this mayhem. I also wont be able to boil any water if the electric goes :(

Beka I understand what you mean regarding keeping in touch ,good advice !

I don't fancy walking to collect water as well. We have filled up almost every container available here.At the present time our water is still on.

Hmmm If I was you I would collect water now (that needs to boiled) and boil it whilst you can. You can use that once its cooled and is sterile. Once the electric goes like you say you are buggered lol.

Another idea maybe is to have a cooking spree. See whats in the freezer that you can eat cold once cooked. Eg - chicken for sandwiches even if its breasts, or pies that can be cooked and eaten cold.

Or try and make a quick fry up or stew of odds and ends that can make a meal.

You might want to empty water into cups and sinks if you havent already!

Gosh I don't envy you guys one bit *Hugs to all*
