  1. I'm quite content with the current "official" description for a white christmas, however, for me personally, I'll call it a white crimbo, when there's lying snow outside on crimbo morning.
  2. Rain just materialised out of nowhere here. Clear skies one minute, hell I was looking at the stars. Then in a few seconds it all blacked out, then started raining... Something. The same strange thick water droplet rain.
  3. February seems the most common snow month for us up here, is it the same for the south Walians?
  4. Few powerful gusts of wind here now, and it's raining, er.... something quite heavy on the Velux window. It's not quite rain, it seems too solid, but it's not hail, or graupel either. Kinda like really dense water droplets if that makes sense. I've seen plenty of times over the years, but never known what it's called. EDIT: Well, whatever this strange precipitation is called, it's now bucketing it down. Torrential "stuff" falling from the sky. Alas with some normal rain mixed in too. The temperature is very low here, somewhere between 1 and 2 degrees, so I reckon the mountains are getting a good coating of christmassy icing.
  5. Just woke up now (been bedridden last two days). It's currently snowing on and off here, but it's not sticking. I would be shocked if it wasn't staying in the mountains though, but I can't see them from the house.
  6. nice map?!? I'm guessing that's supposed to represent the Bristol channel? Really could be any of a number of places!
  7. Er... Dunno. But we're in the "Autumn" discussion area, so it's anybody's guess, just like this weather system Confusingly, the RADAR images are showing precipitation over Wales, which just isn't happening. In the regional discussions, it was said that this often happens because ice crystals in the atmosphere reflect the RADAR signal back, mimicking the appearance of rainfall. Which makes it even trickier to get a grasp of what's going on!
  8. Sigh. I'm off to play Skyrim for a bit. At least there's always snow there.
  9. Then I blame you and your lack of dog sacrifice for our snow drought! You did not please the gods!
  10. Ah, now THAT would make sense, yes. Good call. What precipitation? There's nothing falling!
  11. MetO RADAR is showing almost all of Wales being rained on. Something's not tallying up. Attached is their RADAR for half ten tonight. We saw absolutely nothing like that. (image courtesy of the Met Office, obviously) Most curious.
  12. Definitely nothing here. I'm slightly more inland than Caernarfon, right under supposedly heavy precipitation according to the radar. However, it's not just "not raining", I can see the stars, dammit!
  13. Blackrose - I've been keeping an eye on the car thermometer recently, and it tallies very well with two other electronic thermometers that I have, as well as the nearest weatherstation output. I have no idea if this is common across all car thermometers though, or even across all MkV Golfs!
  14. That;s a good sign then, Jackfrost, since the main snow event is supposedly a few hours away yet.
  15. Of course, yes. Still a nice graphical view of the country, giving an overview of what's going on. They're mainly observations sent in by the public, so they should be accurate. With the caution of course, that one man's snow, is another man's sleet.
  16. I found the MetO's observation site earlier, it's dead useful for keeping track of temperatures, rainfall etc across the UK. Check it out - faster than asking others. http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/home
  17. You guys seen this from the MetO? Great for watching the temperature and weather across the country as things change... http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/
  18. Been in bed all day feeling rundown like crap. But if we get some properly snowy mountains tomorrow, NOTHING is going to stop me from getting the snowboard out, hehe!
  19. Oddly, the MetO's observations show that it's been snowing in Capel Curig, Snowdonia this afternoon. I wouldn't have called that.
  20. Worth keeping an eagle eye on, for sure. Maybe worth bearing in mind also, is that the maps / views are rotated with relation to each other, which amplifies any immediately perceivable differences.
  21. Sigh. Some linguistic issues are afoot, I fear. When I said "I don't see it", I guess I should have said "I don't concurr". That is to say, I don't agree that it is showing any worthwhile deviation... YET! It is still far too early to tell. Wait until the low has actually formed, then we'll have something to look at.
  22. Here goes. I'm sticking my neck out!... 18z FAX charts from Wednesday are the latest I can see - and they are almost bang-on with the MetO predictions. Looks like a very slim chance of snow to Wales after midnight friday morning (/ Thursday night), with a slightly greater chance for you in the south. Still very marginal though. There's a good chance of colder air being pulled down from the north after the system passes, which means lower temperatures, and a greater chance of any snowfall sticking around longer. It also means that any wintry precipitation that develops in the aftermath has a better chance of making it to lower ground. Say, below 300m. Like I say though, very marginal. Don;t get your hopes up for the white stuff - but polish those sleighs / sledges ready just in case!
  23. I don't see it. The low is forming way out to the west, there's no visible indication of anything yet on the yr.no link.
  24. No idea on the dewpoint, but it's currently 4 degrees, zero wind, zero rain just slightly north of Caernarfon. We had a burst of strong wind and heavy rain at around 11pm, that lasted for about 20 minutes.
