  1. North Wales apparently has it's first light covering on the Carneddau range. It was absolute darkness by the time I finished work, so I haven't seen it with my own eyes (or camera) yet.
  2. I'm claiming it as the start of winter proper. There seem to be a few likely blasts of cold wind for at least the next week. And will hopefully carry us on to the middle of the month, when a few forecasters believe this otherwise unseasonable warmth will at least start to fade away.
  3. There's a light covering of snow on the Carneddau range now, apparently. Not much, but it is nice to know that despite such a warm autumn, winter is on it's way finally.
  4. I usually love autumn. We have crisp cold winters, and thin icy air in the mornings. Perfect weather for hammering the trails on a mountain bike, and lovely weather for cycling to work - even if it rains, waterproofs are comfortable since it's cold enough to not sweat too much. This year however, has been a complete letdown. Unusually warm weather, bouts of heavy rain, and strong, but not "interestingly strong" winds (until the last two few days!). Keeping my fingers crossed for a return to normal winter conditions in December.
  5. Huh?I'm sorry, but I cannot see any selfishness in your link. Have you linked to the wrong story, perchance?
  6. We'll have to wait for tomorrow night for them bears. Frozen planet is on the Beeb again, and the TV schedule is much easier to predict.
  7. Damn you all, I was having a relatively productive day at work, and read some of this whilst having a tea break. Now I'm as overexcited as a puppy about the slim possibility of incoming snow, haha! Can't see me getting much work done this afternoon.
  8. I wish I had wind readings here, just inland from Port Dinorwig. I've never heard or felt wind like this - there's a howling in the sky itself. Impressive stuff. Capel Curig in Snowdonia has recorded gusts of 70mph I see.
  9. Great forecast, very detailed, and very educational. My only grievance is that I couldn't see where he was pointing to, because of the overlay It does look as though my trip to the alps in early January won't be anything to write home about - but at least there's hope for my second trip there in March. So, not too bad!
  10. I hear you. I'm hoping to head up to Aviemore for some Cairngorm boarding myself in a couple of weeks. I nearly cried when I saw the webcams this morning.
  11. Please excuse my ignorance, but would you care to explain a little? I thought a Foehn wind was a more localised phenomenon.
  12. I apologise. What I meant was, sheltered from the western coast. It seems the coastal areas are being battered worst.
  13. I think that although you're northern enough, you may simple be too sheltered. Capel Curig in Snowdonia has seen 68mph gusts this morning, and Aberdaron on the tip of the Llyn peninsula most recently recorded winds of 48mph, with gusts of 66mph. Both of which are much further south than yourself. (wind information courtesy of MetO)
  14. Bloody windy up here on the coast near Bangor too, some intensely strong gusts, but average wind seems quite low. I wish I had an anemometer to measure it. Although the GFS chart occasionally throws a random spanner in the works and shows a big cloud of cold air over Wales (which is almost always gone by the next model run), I just can't see us getting any serious snowfall within the next two weeks. Snowdon, however, and maybe some of the nearby mountains? Well, snow frequently pops up on them at the most bizarre times, in the strangest weather, so I reckon they might be snow-capped within the next 10 days. That's what I keep telling my snowboard anyway :winky:
