  1. Temp +1ºC & Dew Point 0ºC

Mixture of rain, sleet & snow (wet) on way to Telford this morning with only favoured surfaces getting a slight covering. It's going to take sustained showers to leave anything substantial. BBC R4 METO @ 7:57 said possibility of Cheshire Gap streamers today which is what is needed.

  2. Our very own Netweather Forecast doesn't bode well for the weekend onwards.... Still a long way off though.

Winds turn more northerly over the weekend, direct from the arctic, so turning colder again, with an increasing risk of sleet and snow falling to lower levels again. Sleet and snow showers will be generally confined to northern areas and coastal areas further south - with inland areas of England and Wales staying dry and bright by day and frosty overnight.

Early next week, we keep the cold northerly or northwesterly flow, with a risk of further sleet and snow in places, as disturbances run south in the flow, otherwise wintry showers near coastal areas, with dry and bright conditions inland.

We don't tend to fair too well with true Northerlies but a North Westerly has often given us some decent Cheshire Gap streamers in the past.

We need to get past the next couple of days first.

  3. Damn.. I'm missing all this as away on business but at least I've had my first experience of Thundersnow.. in Torquay.. the English Riviara of all places! Plenty of Sferics down here...

I just need to get hometo the midlands tomorrow morning.

  4. Stayed there loads of times in last 20 years with my wife for long weekends.

We used to absolutely love it, but seems to have lost something in last couple of years. Cant quite put my finger on what exactly.

Good 'fine dining' in Langtrys restaurant in there.

Nice spot in Torquay. Seeing the photo reminds me of the night a channel low came up the channel but it wasnt quite cold enough and we had lashings of rain; a real stormy night. Back in Feb 97ish i reckon.

Staying there on business. Nice place but tonights storm is as exciting as it gets in Torquay in dark short days in January!
  5. Forgive my despondency and negativity, but almost a third of the meteorological winter has now passed by without a significant snow event for most of us and it's safe to say that, bar a few sleety showers tomorrow, the rest of the month is a write-off and with milder,

From my long memory, I rarely recall snow falling much before the turn of the New Year. Christmas was usually grey and miserable.  Maybe someone with some more scientist evidence than 50+ years of memory can support thsi but there is still the lions share of winter left and plenty of time for it to roar!
