No snow here but a superb full lunar halo with irradescence and possibly rarer weak seconary arcs just visible.
Must be plenty of high icy clouds up there.
-
True Northerlies are rarely any use to us with any PPN usually running down either side on the coastal regions.
Colder but drier.. with any rogue snow showers drifing inland a bonus.
-
Net Weather Snow Radar App (android) is working fine on my phone and tablet.
-
So what would it take for us to actually get snow here, and not rain
Must just be hit and miss with the nature of the showers. Snowed heavily at 1pm on Stafford Park Telford.
-
Belting down with huge flakes in Telford and sticking.

Temp +1ºC & Dew Point 0ºC
Mixture of rain, sleet & snow (wet) on way to Telford this morning with only favoured surfaces getting a slight covering. It's going to take sustained showers to leave anything substantial. BBC R4 METO @ 7:57 said possibility of Cheshire Gap streamers today which is what is needed.
-
Temp dropped from a balmy 9ºC this morning to 2ºC and a dew point of -3ºC now.
Had a couple of very light brief graupel showers in the last half hour.

Our very own Netweather Forecast doesn't bode well for the weekend onwards.... Still a long way off though.
Winds turn more northerly over the weekend, direct from the arctic, so turning colder again, with an increasing risk of sleet and snow falling to lower levels again. Sleet and snow showers will be generally confined to northern areas and coastal areas further south - with inland areas of England and Wales staying dry and bright by day and frosty overnight.
Early next week, we keep the cold northerly or northwesterly flow, with a risk of further sleet and snow in places, as disturbances run south in the flow, otherwise wintry showers near coastal areas, with dry and bright conditions inland.
We don't tend to fair too well with true Northerlies but a North Westerly has often given us some decent Cheshire Gap streamers in the past.
We need to get past the next couple of days first.

Local Weather Station reading at RAF Cosford Temp +2ºC Dew Point -3ºC

That was unexpected! moderate snow started out of nowhere.
Yep snowing here in Telford and back home towards Wolverhampton in South Staffs.
-
Some sleet now amongst the rain. Temp dropped from 3 to 1.

Morning Knocker, thank you. Yes, alive and kicking, haven't shuffled off yet.
p.s There is enough snow for my dogs to be loopy, currently legging it up and down the path, leaping onto the decking at the end and deliberately skidding.
Ours just love doing that too!

At least a lot of us experienced Thundersnow.
Driving 200 north up the M5 home this morning so will be interesting to who got what last night.
-
Damn.. I'm missing all this as away on business but at least I've had my first experience of Thundersnow.. in Torquay.. the English Riviara of all places! Plenty of Sferics down here...
I just need to get hometo the midlands tomorrow morning.
-
BBC weather even mentioned #thundersnow just and also showed the high Sferics storm activity in SW and noted the very unstable air in the showers.
-
Staying there on business. Nice place but tonights storm is as exciting as it gets in Torquay in dark short days in January!Stayed there loads of times in last 20 years with my wife for long weekends.
We used to absolutely love it, but seems to have lost something in last couple of years. Cant quite put my finger on what exactly.
Good 'fine dining' in Langtrys restaurant in there.
Nice spot in Torquay. Seeing the photo reminds me of the night a channel low came up the channel but it wasnt quite cold enough and we had lashings of rain; a real stormy night. Back in Feb 97ish i reckon.
-
Looks like The Osborne, overlooking Meadfoot bay - you staying there?
Yep. That's the place. Travelling back up to Midlands tomorrow. Glad I didn't have to travel home tonight.

Snow on the hilltops of the mountains here this morning. Rain at 700 feet though.
-
Been for a run out from coast through Bala to Llangollen. More snow inland around Bala. The peaks around coastal regions only have snow at altitude. Sea temps must still be quite warm.

Forgive my despondency and negativity, but almost a third of the meteorological winter has now passed by without a significant snow event for most of us and it's safe to say that, bar a few sleety showers tomorrow, the rest of the month is a write-off and with milder,
From my long memory, I rarely recall snow falling much before the turn of the New Year. Christmas was usually grey and miserable. Maybe someone with some more scientist evidence than 50+ years of memory can support thsi but there is still the lions share of winter left and plenty of time for it to roar!
-
Snow that turned to rain mid-afternoon now finally turning back to wet snow but sky looks broken and the radar only shows showers. Temp fallen to + 0.7
-
For anyone hitting the roads storm chasing tonight /tomorrow remember many schools finished today so the traffic is likely to be very heavy.
