  1. A gust this morning has torn the felt off my wood store and a tree was down on the A41.

Just as well I'm not up in North Wales today. Top 4 highest gusts are all from up there with Capel Curig at 79mph... scrub that Met Office now showing 94 mph!!

The precipitation is heading this way but will be rain of course, at least for the first few hours. Whether anything of it is still lingering here when the cold air arrives is the question. At the moment, I'm going with that it won't I'm afraid. However, with a bit of luck those showers later might get here.

Dudley Council are out gritting right now. Seems a bit of a waste of time with likely rain imminent. We shall see.

I remember well the snow, rain & freeze of Jan 2004(?) when it took me nearly 7 hours to get from Cradley Heath home to South Staffs. The Dudley gritters came out in the afternoon when it was snowing and then it turned to rain and then the skies cleared at about 4pm which caused a rapid freeze. The gritters tried to get out again but by then it was rush hour and gridlock throughout the Black Country and Brum.

  3. As Frog says an SLR camera and tripod will do the job. Physically pressing the shutter will normally cause judder or blur. If you don't have a shutter cable, you can always use the delay on the shutter (like when you press it and run around for group shots before it goes off.) You can also get remote controls for some cameras to do the same thing.

The SLR doesn't have to be expensive. My old Nikon is 9 years old and still does a great job.

There are a few good websites giving tips. I used to carry a card with a table of ISO and F settings and times for exposures which I printed off one site but have lost it!

Here looks like a good site.
