  1. Monday has potential for us. Ireland and southwest England starting to turn very pink with the front moving in from the Atlantic; Wales naturally its next destination. Awaiting the 12Z with bated breath.
  2. I thought channel lows tend to miss Wales by no more than a few miles, usually bringing their snow to southernmost counties of England? No snow here other than a few flurries, perhaps a little more towards London. Perhaps some snow here on Monday.
  3. Only the highest parts of the red zone got the full foot. I'm in it but I got 7 inches which seems to be a standard depth across Wales, even in areas far away from the red zone and in places which were expected to get rain just a few days ago.
  4. Wow, that band of showers moving up the Bristol Channel is really intensifying. Looks like Swansea is in the firing line. Very slow moving though. They'll take another two hours or more to reach southeast Wales at this rate.
  5. Our snizzle has intensified and I'm watching that band of showers with great interest. Intense snizzle... a snizzard?
  6. Two clumps of showers with moderate PPN over the Bristol Channel and Devon that may start moving slightly northeast. They could hit Somerset and Bristol or they could hit southeast Wales. They may dissipate on the next radar run, but if they don't then they're something to watch.
  7. Commiserations to those who haven't had snow today. Must be painful to see everyone else losing their heads over it.
  8. Not quite. Central and eastern England is expected to see snow on Sunday from a low moving out of France while Wales and southwest England could be in the path of two Atlantic systems moving in on Monday-Tuesday. Exciting times. Oh, and regarding the mass of cloud being picked up on the radar, there's more shower activity developing off Pembrokeshire and across Devon and Cornwall. Whether it's related and whether it'll amount to anything I don't know.
  9. It must be localised to a few select places, there's nothing up here apart from constant snizzle! Can't deny that the mass of cloud looks like it would normally bring precipitation but I dunno, I can't see several radars missing a big chunk of incoming weather. I've never seen that happen before. I would absolutely love love love to be wrong.
  10. Yeah, I think it's just a mass of cloud. Sorry to be a wet sponge!
  11. Yeah, I don't think the red warning was justified. Warnings of towns and villages being cut off? It's a good snowfall, but I wouldn't call 6 inches exceptional.
  12. I suspect this lull is temporary. There's plenty of precipitation developing and heading our way. Might not be as heavy as what we've seen but a few more cms is very likely. Snow is likely to continue on-and-off for the rest of the day.
  13. 6 inches here too. Looks like a pretty widespread depth. Snow has stopped for now.
  14. Carol Kirkwood's BBC forecast showed residual snow in southeast Wales even on Sunday with Monday's weather looming large in the Atlantic. 4-6 inches lying here as an estimate.
  15. The wind is really starting to howl, almost horizontal snow which is really blowing about and covering all surfaces, including the main roads. Walls and houses are looking a little snow blasted as I speak. In my 22 years I don't think I've ever seen a true blizzard here.
  16. Don't forget that even though it looks like the front will soon clear, it will get picked up the southeast flow which is the direction it will start to orientate from so there's plenty yet to come. As it stands, the snow is expected to continue across much of Wales until at least Saturday morning, still over 24 hours away.
  17. This is going to end up less as "will it snow in Cardiff?" and more "will I be able to get out of Cardiff?"
  18. Considering the amount of attention being given to this event, and the warnings of valley towns being cut off etc, I can't help but wonder if the estimated snow amounts are a little conservative, particularly over the areas forecast to be worst hit. Thoughts? Or is it the drifting that's the main issue here? We'll have to wait and see by the end of tomorrow to know for certain of course.
  19. Why is Derek saying the red warning covers only the Beacons and the Heads of the Valleys? It clearly comes down as far as Pontypridd.
  20. I'm in the red warning. I'm getting quite nervous. People seem to be taking note of the forecasts and warnings over the last few days, the shops are busier and emptier than usual and there's murmuring of this being the worst snowfall since '82. I'm really happy those in the southwest and west of Wales look likely to see a hefty fall. I'd have felt quite guilty celebrating when others had rain. Now we can all join in!

  22. Fear not! Temperatures are going to drop through this afternoon and are already doing so, and tonight's snow will be heavy so it'll have no trouble settling. SOUTH WALES NOW HAS A RED WARNING. Just mentioned on the BBC forecast.
  23. I can see the deepest depth area stretching from the Rhondda over to the English border, staying south of around Brecon and north of Pontypridd and Caerphilly, so roughly the central and eastern Valleys and most of Monmouthshire. Surrounding areas will see significant falls, but being close to the sea yet high above sea level will help the above area.
