  1. This winter has been fab for me in the se Birmingham. Temps wise we look like having a cet below normal for Dec - Feb. Which i think is very good given the abscence of a mega cold period and clear skys and nights with very low temps (bar a few). Ive had deeper snow and more days with snow on the ground and ive seen snow fall on more days. It also looks like feb should end cold maybe even very cold and possibly snowey. Here's to more cold and snow in march and a warm dry summer.
  2. I guess it does in large cities like brum about 2 c in winter between city centre and suburbs. Sometimes 4c plus between city centre and rural areas. Urban heat island. Which is why it's so very rare to snow in central London.
  3. Omg if villa have won then anything really can happen. Snow in August I reckon if villa stay up.
  4. Where are you based, can't see on mobile Snowing now in se Birmingham struggling to settle. Very wet
  5. I'm in se Birmingham and It looked like it was snowing, but when I went outside it was moderate sleet or very wet snow at best so very unlikely to settle. Can anyone here access charts of current conditions ie temps, dew points and upper air temps over Birmingham. BBC seems upgrade this morning with rain/snow band only pushing up to Midlands and snow on leading edge. But at 2-5cm as depths its very much a non event really. Still could still change I guess.
  6. Matt Hugo has just tweeted that the gfs 00z is a mild outliner and to treat its rain / snow forecast with caution for sun/Mon. So don't be disheartened the snow may yet still be an event for some and followed by cold easterly winds and snow showers for eastern areas.
  7. Thankyou. This is a fantastic example of a 'perfect post' for people like myself how want to learn about models and get a heads up of what to expect weatherwise. Better than a BBC forecast.
  8. Can you post a link to comment send about what Joe b said as im very interested in what he said. Many thanks Nigel
  9. The snow rain balance has been restored. Snow has been reported to the north/ East (as expected) West and even further south (this afternoon) and it's raining in brum. Typical. Still 1 month to go at least of possible snow. Even though this has been the best few weeks for snow in years, at least one other cold and snowy spells is needed before it comes close to the 80's.
  10. As a Birmingham person, ive had a look at the radar and there are dark reds in the next moving ese and another massive area of dark red in central Wales moving ese. In between there is a huge hole and that heading our way. So perhaps less snow and more to our North and South. Hope I'm wrong.
  11. For Birmingham, this has not been the coldest, but it has been snowier than 2010 and when we take about 'the hunt for cold' most members are looking for snow. This snowy spells reminds me of the ones I saw some often in the 80's. By the way in the 80's there where many occasions when forecasters said snow turning to rain and mild weather sweeping in and guess what, we had our biggest snows. I'm not suggesting this will happen and you can only comment on what the models are showing but you can never be 100% certain.
  12. No snow in se Birmingham. Despite radar saying moderate snow. C'mom Bradford.
  13. Sunday is drove down the A41 in South Birmingham towards Warwick, as soon as i crossed the m42 into Warwickshire the roads went from treacherous to clear. Today I drove from se brum to cov down the a45. Again treacherous roads in brum. Cross the m42 and the roads where clear of slush and ice. I could only drive 20-30 mph in brum. Upto 60 mph outside brum. Joke.
  14. My school in Coventry is closed today so I'm going sledging with the kids. Enjoy it whole or lasts, it could happen again in febuary but we could be waiting 1yr or 2 before a proper snow event like the one we have just had. Enjoy folks
