  1. It won't be when that ice glazes power lines and you end up with no electricity! freezing rain is one of the most dangerous aspects of winter weather, ask people in ne Canada where many people had no power for weeks in sub zero temps, the ice brought down power lines in one of the most famous ice storms of the 20th Century.

Of course that was an extreme event but just goes to show for a country that is used to lots of snow freezing rain is altogether a different proposition.

yeah i know it can lead to problems in big ice storms that one in canda was very extreme and lasted for weeks we will get 24hrs at the most so we would just get the nice coating on everything and slippery surfaces. cant imaging it causing power lines to come down as it needs to be heavier and longer lasting does'nt it?

  2. well according to the bbc forecast thats just been on bbc1 east yorkshire isnt going to get any rain or snow i really hope its wrong.

edit look north just said its still on for snow no wonder people complain about forecasts always been wrong when on the same channel within five minutes one says no rain or snow and the other ones says lots of it!

  3. that chart looks great. started my holidays today so got all week to enjoy anything it can throw at us. lets hope today and next week makes up for such a mild winter so far

morning all, the excitement builds, i am slightly concered though that the net-weather snow risk for here today is only 52%, another doubt that has been put in my mind that this just wont be as good as hoped.

says that for hull as well. do netweather use the gfs charts for there snow forecast. if there do this could explain the low percentage

  4. Well the latest models do little to alter my view that this is going to be a damp squib. The line of advance just looks all wrong to me. I've never heard of snow from a setup like this, except that which lasts a few hours before turning to rain which is what I think is going to happen tomorrow for all but the higher spots above say 300mASL and even then in the east and north.

I really hope I'm completely wrong! Lol.

surely the met office warnings and the net weather warnings and all the other sites wont be wrong at this point. there will have looked into the angle of the front and if it will snow or not.

  5. novice here only started looking at these forums and the charts a few weeks ago! could someone tell me how the ensemble graphs are worked out? whats the difference between the control and the operational? i am loving the cold at the minute and really hope the ecm charts are right! we need a cold spell with some snow here in hull but apart from last year we hardly ever get it bad unless its from the east.
