Thundering here in Dronfield, South Yorkshire. Some lovely flashes and CG's. Quite frequent as well, a few strikes per min currently, and heavy rain. Second storm in 3 days
-
Looking at the radar the storm near here looks to be hitting Sheffield rather than here. It has weakened substantially on its southern side, due to hit Chesterfield. Should still hear some thunder out of it though!
-
Yes storm overhead here. Looked lovely approaching from the west, but not very active. Now it's overhead we've had quite frequent thunder, although skies have been quite light so seeing the lightning has been quite difficult Good storm though
-
Been oblivious to the weather today but just tuned in and by jove the radar looks tasty! In a dry slot here but plenty of interest to the WSW
-
Rumble of thunder near here, but the radar is confusing. Nothing that close to us, and it's heading WNW? Bizarre! I thought the rain and storms were heading north?
-
i really hope the lightning gets going tonight as ive got the tripod ready and camera charged up!!!!! surely Doncaster should see something tonight?
A lot of rain if nothing else! I'd be surprised if there wasn't any more electrical activity. However I wouldn't be surprised to see just a few flashes and bangs sporadically through the night either, without any real frequency or organisation. Difficult really, but I guess there is scope to be surprised in a positive way!
Another big let down :-( was getting excited about this but huff puff
Not finished yet duck!

Must have been lightning and nothing else witnessed a funnel cloud over Renishaw coming off the M1 at Barlborough the road was flooded near Sitwell Arms due to torrential rain yet when i got to the top of Marsh Lane it was bone dry and is bone dry in Dronfield
The rain was very odd actually. Here is was very briefly heavy, and I was driving back from the town centre and some parts the road was soaking and others it was dry. Since I've been back in Hollingwood we've had one burst of torrential rain and not much else!

come on..... Spit it out, I missed it.... Enlightem me?
Yes I agree. Come on Dan, be a Man!
-
Yep dark skies and rumbles of thunder! Feels even more humid today! Tropical out there, and plenty of interest to the south
-
its not even at Chesterfield yet you miserable buggers! Misery shield is killing your storms!
-
Saw some terrific fork lightning SE of here about half an hour or so ago. Absolutely brilliant to see it light up the night sky. I assume the other Chesterfield folk are complaining we haven't had a direct hit yet, but the night is young and you only had to look out the window earlier to see a good taster of what's to come over the next 36 hours
-
Anyway you think its not going to be to bad in darlington? Not much going on right now outside my window
We are in a gap at the moment. Lots out to the west and WSW of us. Keeping my fingers crossed most of it makes it past the Pennines intact. It won't all die off that's for sure. If it all stayed together we'd all get 20cm+ as there is a LOT of precip heading our way. The figures quoted are more like 5-10cm with the highest totals on high ground, so I think the impact of the Pennines is taken into account.
Experience counts for very little in nowcast situations like this, by the way.

I think it's heading further south, not here. Sorry, but this looks like one giant kick in the balls: spectacular conditions for most of England while we get a whimper.
I give up on these forums long before I give up on the weather Writing it off before it has even happened? Crazy talk
-
Don't give up hope yet folks. Precipitation will make it over the Pennines, and there is a lot of it to come. It may look a little fragmented but look at what is coming out of the Irish Sea, all heading this way, and the Pennines won't kill it all off
-
At the moment there is an intense band of snow just NE of Preston and looking at its track its heading for the southern half of the NE the question is whats left of it once it crosses the Pennines
Yeah the Pennines can suck hard in these circumstances Hopefully we'll still get 5-10cm out of tonight though
-
Radar looks better further south at the moment, with Leeds seemingly a very favourable location as it stands. Plenty of precipitation still coming out of Ireland though - there could be several bouts of snow throughout tonight if people are worried about missing out on the heaviest stuff
-
Sounds like the sun is on that Darlo station (it's not anywhere near 7c!)
-
Rumble of thunder at the reserve once again (TS2). 4 straight days of thunder
-
Moderate rain on and off here too. Still, got to hear some lovelt rumbles of thunder from a reasonably close cell to the SW earlier this afternoon, so despite no direct hits, it hasn't been a bad three days
Still an outside chance for the rest of this afternoon into the early evening. I expect they'll die off a little sooner today though.
-
thats incredible nl! dark to the west and south here. everything moving so slowly still. hope you are right nl, could do with seeing some more active stuff :-)
-
thundering every few minutes to the ssw. not too far away either
-
rumble of thunder from a cell to the sw. shame it wont hit here but nice to hear
-
Showers not as intense as recently. One heavy one just rattled through but never looked capable of producing thunder. Looks like it'll be a wet day though, plenty more building behind to the WNW and heading this way. Doubting the thunder potential, but not the rain potential today!
-
thanks nl. looking rather threatening out west with possible distant thunder heard. not 100% sure though. dont think we will miss the rain. postcode ts2

Lightning not so frequent now. Really strong wind gusts though and heavy rain with hail mixed in. Occasional thunder now very high-based it seems.
