  1. Steamy summer's morning out there. Mist in the air and feeling warm and humid. Surrounded by tall trees, one feels like they're in the jungle. Dewpoint 12C. Tropical summer so far.
  2. Under the core of the upper low today, and winds aloft will be blowing different direction depending on location, but showers and storms appear to following 700-500mb winds, which is backing NE'erly to N'erly from the west, turning point over Notts from E'erly backing further to toward N'erly over time, with activity further east moving SW'erly: Low-level clouds will be seen moving counter to those winds at mid-level, but those won't be relevant to storm motion.
  3. Don't knock it. Some good prices going for trips to Brum. Plenty of things to do. There's also nice little canal that runs through the city that you can jump into...
  4. Don't think they do, Cheesy feet. And I don't think Birmingham is in the Black Country. I'll send you a map by PM, if you'd like. Putting all that aside, at least our observations agree - steamy here.
  5. Hi AJ. Have you seen more or fewer storms since you moved to Wiltshire? You ever think about moving back to Staffs, or somewhere else in Midlands?
  6. Not sure, CC. I tend to catch a plane if I'm passing by that region. Doopoint 13C currently. Turned the air con to -2C.
  7. Indeed, can't imagine they'd be well versed in proper pronunciation. Such language would alarm the lower orders. Probably best to leave things as they are. Steering back on topic, another sultry 'sarvo in Brum.
  8. Least you understand. Just gotta get on with though. I had thought of moving further north, perhaps maybe to Leeds. But then after sobering up thought best to stick here.
  9. 34C top temp. last year - hottest ever was 36C Generally though we can see days of low-upper 20s spread out across the season. But it's really that humidity which stands out. Dewpoint 11C last night. Crickets kept me awake for a bit, but turned the air con on and had a sound night's sleep after that. Northern areas a tad void of that, tbh.
  10. Aye, but no match for the tropical urban jungle here, though. High doopoints. Need air con down here. Fan heaters up north.
  11. Yep, urban jungle here as well, which creates the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. Not a problem for somewhere like, say, Leeds, for example, as there's not much there. The reason why typical summers there are cool and cloudy.
  12. Lots of tall trees around here, and coupled with the steaminess of last night, felt Amazon-like. Dull and wet at the moment - typical summer's day though. Extreme oppressiveness of the last week quite unusual. Especially for northern parts.
  13. Aye, looking forward to another round of storms tomorrow. Then again Thursday. Keep 'em coming.
  14. Warm and sticky summer's night tonight. Temp. 13C; dewpoint 13C. Sultry and saturated. Like the Amazon atm.
  15. Yeah, I think this would have been a brief, weak funnel at best, EES, and not a fully-fledged tornado ravaging through town. Different setups entirely.
  16. Got rather interesting here just over an hour ago when a shower formed right on the CZ. Witnessed fast spinning and rising motion at different regions of cloud base for about 15-20 mins, and was willing it to produce and tighten into a proper funnel, but didn't happen. Shame. So close to seeing a good size funnel over this part.
  17. Nice cap, Arnie. There was also CG around Edgbaston, not sure if you got that one too? Good day today. Shame was stuck at work, but working in high rise gives great views all around. Just no chance to record though.
  18. Or 'explosive' elevated stratus clouds with embedded murk. Risk matrix has reasonable likelihood of boredom, with low impacts on one's sanity.
  19. Still infrequent flashes a few miles to my north, roughly between Great Barr and Walsall. Beacon hill would've been an ideal spot to have watched the lightning. Activity's been going on for well over an hour now. Another good day for W Mids.
  20. Brave hehe. Had I walked just a little way down the road here I might have been taken out by that bolt earlier. Mind you, bit dicey in a high rise lol.
  21. More flashes including another CG to my N. Just keeping an eye on those suspect lowerings, see if there was any twisting motion. Another big CG!
  22. It's right on top of me. Another CG could drop anytime. Nervous times haha.
  23. Downpour and lightning over here. Wall of water coming toward me.
