Been out for a walk with the children and dogs and now drying out with a coffee and wagon wheel. have about 5 ins here and after a lull its just started lightly snowing again. My spaniel was hilarious in the snow, he absolutely loved it. I took a video of him and will try to upload later. -

My eldest didn't see proper snow until he was nearly 13. We did have a good snowfall Jan 96 but he was only 10 months old. I was relieved as i didn't want my children growing up and missing out on all the fun.

Can really hear the wind starting to whip up now. Dewpoint is good, just need the temp to drop abit.

Completely O/T but for dancing daisy's benefit: “I believe that ‘Old Speckled Hen’ was first brewed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory. Named after an old MG car which was used as the factory run around, the chaps in the factory would park the old MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon outside the paint shop where it would normally get spattered in paint and so it became known as the ‘Owld Speckl’d Un’. This became ‘Old Speckled Hen’ when the beer was unveiled. Since then the finely balanced beer with a distinctive rich, malty taste and fruity aroma has attracted many fans, and I’m certainly one of them.†P.s its an ale not a cider

You would have thought somebody would have edited that before putting it up! Currently -1c with a -2 dp here. I'm prepared ready for Friday whatever happens. Got a sack of potatoes and a sack of dog food today, have booked sainsburys to deliver tomorrow and shall nip out to the butchers in the morning. I saw posters mention tescos earlier, i wouldn't buy their burgers anyway, they may be low in salt but they are high in Shergar Sorry mkangel

From my understanding and from what i think Chio has said is that the after-effects of the ssw should start to be seen at the end of January/beginning of February. Impressive warming which has just started dropping.

Had to pick my Son up from work at 10pm and the lanes were already icy, not looking forward to going out first thing tomorrow. As for Friday it is best to keep emotions in check and not to get excited by good runs or get upset by bad ones. You can tell by what Ian has been saying how difficult it is to forecast. Maybe Thursday we will have a better idea or it might come down to sticking your head out of the window on Friday and see what comes down.

TG nobody knows for certain, these battleground style events are so difficult to forecast because there are so many things to consider. All you can do is follow the forecasts, read opinions and wait to see what falls out of the sky. It sometimes really does come down to now casting. Would love to be able to forecast snow for you but sorry I can't

Well I've given in to temptation and treated myself to a radar subscription. I have people coming up to me at school for weather forecasts lol. I just tell them i'll keep them updated. With this new flash radar to play with I'm not going to get anything else done now.

I can remember an event from my childhood but don't know the date. Can anyone remember the famous Ian Mccaskill forecast when he warned of that nine letter word and spelt out BLIZZARDS. I remember walking into the village centre from my house with my Mum and brother and the snow driving into our faces and making me cry. I lived in south Wilts at the time and it must have been somewhere between 79 and 83. Anyone know?

Is it just me that mis-reads the snow warnings from the Met? Instead of 'Yellow alert for snow' I read it as 'Alert for yellow snow'

I use to visit the mod thread every day, all year round but I can't cope with it at the moment and generally just get updates in here and look at the charts myself. There are far too many 'experts' that muddy the waters and just confuse matters in the mod thread and you have to wade through pages and pages to find the views of the people that do know what they are talking about. Thanks to AWD, Gibby, Ian, Iceberg etc for their updates and thoughts.

Our cat goes out in all weathers. If it is really cold or rainy she will either scream at the door/window or take shelter somewhere. they are quite hardy creatures. The farm cats are out all year round but obviously find somewhere to shelter and sleep. So don't worry. Anyway we are back to dandruffy flakes albeit better quality and quantity than the dandruff that fell down last night
